I spotted this anime a few years ago, but since my own mom died around that time, I had to put this off until I could give it a fair shake.

Happy Lesson is about a boy who lost his parents and was sent to an orphanage along with his sisters. Once he entered High School he was allowed to leave the orphanage and live in the house he grew up in. Except this time with 5 of his teachers wanting to become his new mom.

~Story 7/10~
The story itself isn't very unique, but I did find some of the elements of the show to be very ... entertaining and cute. Some of it had comedy and some of it was simply fan service.
Just be warned, the harem fighting starts almost instantly and it is like being smacked in the face 10 seconds into the show.

Most of the episodes usually cover some basic anime formula elements. There is a Hot Spring episode, two with school festivals, etc... But in the end of the day, nothing really changes and everything is neatly tied back into a bow.
Each teacher has a dedicated episode that seemed a little ridiculous.

There are a lot of times where I didn't like what was going on because it seemed a little to much like a fantasy show.
For example, there were robots and exotic animals and super frilly outfits that no teacher would ever be allowed to wear.
It just seemed a little too much at times.

The art is good, the backgrounds are well drawn and you get the usual frilly outfits, and extremely weird hair styles and hair colors.
The characters are sometimes drawn in a very cute fashion making me want to continue watching the show and favoring certain characters that don't get much time or character development.

Since each teacher had a dedicated episode it was a great chance to get lots of character development done. It was interesting to see each teachers motivations and to see what makes each of them so unique.

I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the teachers and why they chose to become the mom of this one particular boy, but I was not impressed by the stories and reasons.
Some of the reasons seemed quite stupid while only one of them seemed natural and genuine.
Sometimes there would be family quarrels and it felt nice to know that my own family wasn't so dysfunctional.

As a musician I usually notice background music, but in this case, I don't remember any.
The character voices were done well, but I can't say the same for the English dub.
It is overly common to find some of the characters having really high pitched voices and I've become used to that fact.


Overall, I enjoyed the show because it was cute and a little romantic. It made me envious, yet relieved that my family wasn't so dysfunctional. There is a lot of comedy, but most of it is overly obvious. The romance part of the show pulled at my heart strings, but I am very disappointed in the ending, you'll probably see why.

Acchi Kocchi is a fairly good comedy that is based on everyday things. The show does follow the basic anime forumlas (school, home-visits, beach, swimming etc..) but does it in a little more classy way.

There really isn't much of a story. The premise is pretty much the same as other random comedy shows, but has lots of romantic over-tones.
Tsumiki has a big crush on Io, but has no guts to say so or to confess to him. So, the other members of their group picks on her and sets her up with lots of romantic opportunities.
Overall, the show focuses mostly on random comedy that ... happens on an everyday basis.

~Art~ 7/10
The art was great, it was mostly consistent, but there were times that cat-ears would suddenly appear and cut-aways were very frequent.
Nose-bleeds were rampant and happened almost every 3 minutes.

~Sound~ 7/10
The intro music and background music for the entire show was great. The voice acting was as expected from a comedy show.
However, I didn't like how the characters often had lines describing what the viewer is actually seeing. As an American I am lost to some foreign comedy, but I understood Acchi Kocchi very well and enjoyed it thoroughly without needing the characters telling me what I'm seeing.
Another minor thing about the voice acting is that it seemed very robotic and overly simplified.
I suppose that is more of a writing/scripting problem rather than a voice acting one.

~Character~ 6/10
There wasn't much character development, but what development did happen was focused on Tsumiki and Io.
The gang is your ordinary comedy group. There is a super-short and strong character (Tsumiki), the stoic and quiet (Io), there is a klutz (Hime), the brainy scientist (Mayoi) and energetic supporting male character (Sakaki).
They all mix and match well.

Overall I really enjoyed the show. The comedy was great and the formulas were predictable, but I truly enjoyed watching this.
Now, I'm off to find more like it.

A show I thought would never end.

After watching about 26 episodes of this, I really had trouble getting through this second season. The formula is exactly the same as the first season so I often felt bored and wanted to watch something else.
The romance is very light-hearted throughout most of the show, but occasionally there are some very good moments.
The harem fighting is nearly constant and you'll be able to see a different aspect of a couple of the supporting characters (Chika & Mayu).

~Character 7/10~
Although you do not meet new characters, the creators did deepen some of the supporting cast (Mayu and Chika) showing how ... much they really do love Karou.
Aoi is still the perfect wife, but it still feels like she is a stranger. Her and Karou's characters do not reach the depth needed to pull off a good romance.
Overall, the character aspect was not focused on very much.

This just continues the nearly random events of the first season.
The focus for this show seems to be more about comedy rather than romance. Although I didn't find myself laughing much, I found myself getting bored and frustrated with the lack of direction this show takes.
Besides putting a few good moments together, the rest of the show seems like useless filler.

The English dub is actually okay for this show. After watching it with both languages, the Japanese dub hits it out of the ball park. There are some great musical spots, but they are rare and far between.

The art-style remained the same as the first season. However, I couldn't help but notice the higher amounts of ecchi moments.

Although I do like harem fighting and arguing, I do not like dragging a simple love story over 38 episodes. With the second season I found myself getting bored and frustrated rather than actually enjoying the show. Moments became very typical as if they were following a strict formula.

Overall I'll give this a 7/10.
Although I didn't particularlly enjoy the show, I do appreciate the effort and challenge of making such a show. I had set off to watch a romance series and found myself getting frustrated by the lack of romance.

Although To Heart is labeled as a romance series, it really didn't focus on that at all. This show mainly focuses on introducing new characters and giving them a little depth. The romance was put on the back-burner and left for the last two episodes.

Since we were introduced to new characters so often it was hard to get to really know any of them. Akari, Shiho and Heroyuki were the main characters but I really didn't get the sense of really knowing them or knowing what they're thinking. Most of the characters seem very dense and unable to read body language.

The art style ... is still great even though it appears to be old. The amounts of detail is wonderful and thankfully the art style was more consistent than most shows. By that I mean there wasn't any sudden body changes or suddenly a persons head gets huge to show humility.

The English dub for this was fairly good. The background music was also great. It got me really into certain moments of the show because the music was just flowing through me.

There really isn't a story for this show. It is mainly a random set of events that happen to Akari and Heroyuki throughout a years time. The show starts out with Akari remembering something precious from her past, but that story was only continued within the last couple episodes of the show. Out of all the episodes more than half were about introducing new characters, so things were fairly random more than half of the time.

~Enjoyment 7/10~
Although I may have been put to tears once, I didn't really get the sense of being fully engaged into the show. There were good moments and there were a lot of boring ones too. I often got annoyed with characters repeating eachothers lines, it really frustrates me when that happens.

Overall I would score this at a 7. It was a good show, but nothing I'll probably want to watch again. My To Heart 2 review should still be around, but be warned it was nasty compared to this one.

Sakura Diaries really pulls at the love strings the entire way through.
It really is an amazing story touching on taboos, reality and the difficulties of life in general.

The art style is your typical 80's and 90's look.
What grabbed my attention was how the artists paid so much attention to detail. The backgrounds were fully drawn, the frequently visited environments did not change at all detail-wise. It's as if they had a fully drawn out environment for every scene.
There is frequent nudity in this show, although you don't ever get to see anything "too" revealing or inappropriate.
This show is a very impressive work of art.

The sounds ... were great. The English dub is surprisingly good for this show. The music was great and sometimes I felt that the voice-actors understood the emotions the characters were feeling. There isn't a lot of extra unnecessary dialogue and there isn't paragraphs and paragraphs of explanations, it makes things feel realistic.

The story is outstanding. Tonma goes to Tokyo trying to get into any college or university that he can. But the night before his important entrance exam, he is interrupted by his cousin Urara. She acts like a call girl (because he didn't remember her), getting Tonma both excited and upset, making him get sick with a cold. He fails his exam and runs into a beautiful woman named Meiko who is also taking the entrance exam. But he doesn't want her to know that he failed, so he lies and tries to go out with her anyway.
Along his journey's he will fail in virtually everything from obvious everyday things to big romance and important events. Disappointment after disappointment, it makes me wonder if he'll ever find love or find what he needs the most.

The main character Urara seemed to get the most character depth in the show. Although she is a high school girl, she is apparently very deep and her love for Tonma is also just as deep. Meiko has a surprising background to her and she turns to not be as bad as I thought she was. The other supporting characters get very little depth. But surprisingly enough, Tonma the main character this show is about, doesn't get as much depth to him as I wanted. Even until the very end, he seemed like a shallow-shell of a person.

I really enjoyed this show. The love strings were constantly being pulled and making me want to watch the entire show in one sitting.
I literally lost sleep over this.

Overall, a great show, something I wish was longer than just 12 episodes. But what I didn't enjoy was the ending. It left me confused and wanting more. The show ended with me having so many questions and so many things unresolved. I want more! More! More! More! More!

Although Comic Party Revolution kind of continues where season one ended, this season does not hold an overall story-line, the art style is fairly different, and a whole lot of things were so different forcing me to hate this season right out of the gate. However, towards the end, I felt this second season was okay.

Character development did happen, but it didn't go as deep as I would like it to have gone. Lots of the episodes dedicated themselves to having the viewer learn about each character a little bit more (except for Subaru).
I apparently missed something because the character Subaru just suddenly appeared in ... the group that I've grown to love. I felt as if she was an outsider the entire time.

The art style is a little different, but not so different that I couldn't enjoy the show. Instead of living in a house, Kazuki lives in an apartment. All of the characters felt much taller, which made me think that at least a couple years have past since the ending of the first season (although that isn't supposed to be the case). Mizuki's and Yuu's hair is a lot longer.

The English dub in this season was... okay. Yuu's voice actress was obviously from New York or New Jersey because her voice stood out like sore thumb. She has no place in Japanese anime's.
Mizuki's voice actress is great, she reminds me a lot of School Rumble.

The music wasn't very noticeable. A couple times I noticed a great melody but nothing in particular struck me as fantastic or something that I had to have.

Although I did enjoy the show, I have to say this show strikingly scores 7 all over the place. It does not do exceptionally well in any category or in any way period. There was no underlying story to speak of, the art was a bit different, the characters did not get as much depth as needed, but in the end I did enjoy what I watched because of the comedy.

The last episode is specifically why I ended up liking this season. It strayed from its normal E rated material. The last episode had two ways it could have finished. One way could've finished romantically, the other could've finished with no real relationship advancement what-so-ever. Unfortunately the chose they latter. In the end, I wanted a bit of romance to be sparked and nothing advanced in any of the characters relationships.
The relationships in the end were exactly the same as they were in the beginning of the season.

Eimi Ooba for some reason becomes part of the group. Her reasons for doing so is never clear. Aya's reason is never touched on either, but her reasons are more obvious. Subaru is a surprise character, she suddenly appears out of nowhere and seems to know everyone really well. Her character did not get any depth and remained an outsider in my eyes.

I was looking forward to season two because I wanted some resolutions, but all I got was a bunch more questions and sometimes became confused as to why certain things happened.

This show kind of ruined Comic Party for me. Part of me regrets watching this season, but another part of me is glad that I watched the last episode.

Now, on to the OVA, and hopefully it was resolve some of my questions. We'll see.

Working'!! is the second season of a great show, but this season in particular seems to only kick the can down the road.

I like the concept that Working!! is using, however, the relationships and character development seem to be at near stand still. The season presents perfect opportunities for relationship advancements, but the characters are either simply too dense to notice what's happening or the writers are trying to delay an inevitable ending.

Character 4/10
I give such a low score because the character relationships do not advance very much. The biggest advancement so far is an exchange of text messages between Inami and Takashi. That's it.

Art, ... Sound, Story 8/10
These three are all the same as the previous season.

Enjoyment 7/10
My enjoyment could have been a lot better, but I found the inability to enhance relationships a very frustrating thing. The awkward moments would happen frequently, but nothing really happens after that. It's like the writers are walking away from something great and having to be replaced with mediocre crap.. The show must end some day, maybe not this season, but I hope it will end the way we all want it too.

Ouran High School Host Club is a show about really handsome guys making women happy. But they all hold a secret: their newest member is actually a girl. They keep the secret to themselves and must face different challenges to make sure it stays that way.

In all sense, this is practically a reverse harem. After a short while a sense of romance will be picked up by most of the club members and will constantly annoy each other by trying to advance their relationship with Haruhi, their new female club member. This goes on for quite a long time.

~Characters 8/10~
The character development is quite good, ... seeing how they try to deepen the characters throughout each episode, leaving some episodes directly dedicated to certain club members. You'll find the usual reverse harem types: short and cute, quiet and stoic, loud obnoxious, self-interested business type and the homo twins.

Each character possess unique skill sets allowing them to be a perfect group.

The story is not unique and follows a lot of the basic anime school formulas, such as the beach scenes, uniforms, cosplay, bad-mouthing the poor, elaborate dresses/outfits etc... It all seems very typical.

The main story is basically a simple framework (or skeleton), thus allowing each character to be mend their own back stories into the main one, thickening the story and plots while helping the audience understand why the characters act the way they do.

The story is a lot more typical and stereotypical than that, but it kept my interest in such a moe driven show.
If you are wanting romance development, you can pretty much just start on episode 20.

~Sound 9/10~
The sounds, dialogue and music are not genre defining, but I really enjoyed the way they used the music. The artists used classical Mozart to get the point across in certain scenes allowing a very deep emotional connection to the current story.

Although, I am not a big fan of moe, this show did your typical male moe.
The male beauty was not over-exaggerated which was a plus, but you can definitely tell a difference between high-class and low-class moe if you watch this show.

I enjoyed the show for a while, but near the end of the series I found myself getting bored with the lack of romance development and especially getting bored since a lot of the same things were getting repeated. Scenes of frantic running would be continuously repeated and would drive me insane. And this show is yet another that focuses on competition and contests as a form of rivalry to win the heart of Haruhi. These contests can be very repetitive since they show up several times throughout the series.

But overall, the show isn't bad, it's certainly a way to waste time, but it isn't something I'll be re-watching anytime soon.

He is my Master, is a very... uninteresting show to say the least. Its true purpose is mindless repetition and ecchi shots, anything else is purely coincidental.

If you watch this show you must keep in mind that the show mainly evolves around middle schoolers, which means they all have a middle school mentality and do not know very much about adult life, other than the sexual parts. And the deciding factors throughout the entire series are contests between two or more people. So, for example when they were fighting for someones love, a contest would commence.

Story 5/10

There really isn't any story to go on since ... the majoirty of the show was pretty much random. The story starts out with Izumi and her sister running away from home. While walking along a side walk they find a sign claiming that the owner of this giant mansion is looking for live-in maids and that is where it all starts. The story dives a little deeper about 8 episodes later, but it is almost completely irrelevant when there is so much randomness happening.

Although the sound wasn't top notch there were a few moments where the music was good and the music almost always suited the moods, that's usually because the moods were almost-always carefree and energetic.

Character 6/10
Although there is very little character development, this doesn't detract from the story. You will learn a little about each character but everything is pretty much skin-deep.


Art 6/10
The art is pretty much what you'd expect from a show that was released in the early 2000's. The art doesn't show a lot of ecchi moments, there are not a lot of panty shots, but there is a lot of cleavage and sexy dresses to go around. I suppose giving a middle schooler a sexy dress is less offensive than giving a 6 year old one, so there's at least a good thing.

After a while I got very bored of this show. If there wasn't any ecchi shots going on, they would be doing some kind of mindless contest. Like before, you must consider a middle-schoolers mentality when watching this show. I don't typically like it when the main male protaginist is a pervert always wanting to grope every chick he sees, but in this case it was really bad when it was a middle schooler doing those things.

Overall, after 13 episodes I was finally relieved that I was done with this show. I thought it would be a good show, but all of my expectations were disappointed.

Angel Heart is such a beautiful and heart-warming show that can bring even the most hardened people to tears. Can it be fate? Or can it be a new start in life?

The show starts off with a quick pace. It starts with Xiang Ying aka Glass Heart assassinating a man in the park, but while she’s walking away, she over-hears a little girl trying to give that man an ice-cream cone and telling her dad that he can’t sleep or the ice-cream will melt. As a result, Glass Heart (the assassin) then decides to commit suicide by jumping off of a building. A year later, ... after seeing some memories of the organ donors past, she wakes up in a mysterious place and finds her way to Ryo aka City Hunter. And that is where the story begins.

The main concept this show uses is using many different stories over the course of 7 years to help shape Xiang Ying’s personality and help her start her life over and become human once again. The stories that the show covers is typically romantic and heart-warming, yet filled with danger and excitement. They show basic morals and values and help Xiang Ying understand that her assassin skills can be used for good and not always just for bad. Throughout the show, you’ll see Xiang Ying become more like Kaori (the organ donor whose heart was stolen) and make almost everyone’s life she comes across, better.

The music in this show is absolutely wonderful. It ranges from Goofy to Romantic and always seems to fit perfectly with the moods. The dialogue moves quickly at times, but that doesn’t make the experience any less fantastic. It’s nice to see that there can be some comedy and romance in a show that so often has violence.

The characters are well thought-out. The background story of Kaori and Ryo is very romantic and subtle. The other supporting characters, don’t receive such a wonderful look at their personalities or backgrounds. Xiang Ying has the best character development, seeing how she had so little personality to begin with. At first, I didn’t like Ryo, I thought he would be evil and kill the person who received Kaori’s heart, but he turned out to be a wonderful guy who is goofy and clever. The synopsis and some reviews made me think that this show was brutal and unappealing, but in fact, it’s a very wonderful show and I hope others find it fascinating too.

Overall, I really enjoyed this show. Almost every episode I found myself crying because the stories are just so wonderful. It’s nice to see that assassin skills can be used for good and not only for evil. This show can teach people a few good lessons and don’t let the number of episodes scare you either. Each story roughly covers 3 to 5 episodes each and the action is plentiful. I never found myself getting bored and I often felt that I had to continue watching the show and as a result, I lost a lot of sleep. A three day sabbatical should be a requirement to watch this show.
