Although I'm recommending this special episode, this is not the case for non-fans. This is basically showing events on Sabaody from a fan perspective, that's why non-fans are baffled by its high score while fans are just having one of the best experience ever.
That noted, what a ride was this. Had me with a big smile for most of the episode, reliving some of the most memorable events on OP and showing from another perspective, all of that with proper pacing and quality. Although the story has some ups and downs, it was a nice ride.
Art was always great, story was always full of surprises and it delivered a lot of good moments towards the end. While it goes way apart from Negima to validate a new name, it's nice to see a lot of the previous series material be present in this one since it's in the same universe/storyline. Of course, there are flaws, plot holes and such, but, in my opinion, not nearly as much to dim all the shining moments this manga has. I'd not recommend it to those who are jumping directly into it, there a lot ...

I jumped on this a bit blindly because I was after watching everything in Tenchi Muyo! franchise.
Originally this was a looser spin-off since there ware just light hints about this in OVA S3 and GXP, but now OVA S4 and S5 are tying it a bit tighter. Was expecting something a bit more mediocre since Sasami Mahou Shoujo Club was a letdown as S3 and S4 for Tenchi Muyo! OVAs.
