"IsekaiHood, the Anime"
That is how i could define Mushoku Tensei - Jobless Reincarnation.
It is funny and ironic how just in 2021, after we met all kinds of trash Isekai series, with cheap plot, no devenlopment, and all kinds of distractions (Smartphone, Shield, Animals, Vendor Machine etc) as a excuse for the same Overpower and/or Harem narratives, we are now presented to a story where the original meaning of ISEKAI element is respected and kept into the core.
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is made with the purest interest of this kind of story: the opportunity, in another world, for us to be different from what we
...
were in our "real world".
And that is what this anime delivers. A story of complete character development following up the life of Rudeus Greyrat, literally from his birth, but always under the reaction/observation of the his previous self (represented by the superb voice work of Tomokazu Sugita as the previous life conscience of Rudy).
But not only Rudeus is subject of development. Along the series you will meet other characters with strong personalities, that helps and are helped by the protagonist. By the 1st episode you know Roxy Migurdia, tutor of Rudy and the 1st to aid in his upgrade in the new world.
Sure it have many cliché elements that even before 2012 was already usual in japanese works (Medieval Fantasy, horny MC, "adult" Loli, truck-kun from Yuyu Hakusho etc), used by the author Rifujin na Magonote to make that world more familiar to the audience. However, not his fault, it become too much unoriginal at 2021.
The anime was produced by a new studio formed by a collaboration of the famous studios Egg Firm(SAO, DanMachi, Gate) and White Fox (Stein's Gate, Re:Zero, Goblin Slayer), so was not a surprise that the art, animation and soundtrack is being amazingly well done.
An explanation to all this effort is that although obscure to the western anime community, Mushoku Tensei's Novels (WN and LN), the source material, are very famous in Japan, a real reference that influenced lots of other posterior works. When the 1st episode aired in Japan, the tag #Mushoku Tensei reached the 5th place in the twitter trends of Japan, and still keep taking 1st weekly place in japanese anime rankings.
So Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is a series that deserves attention, coming like a healing magic over the battered subgenre of Isekai.

Before anything, let's put in the table: Are you mostly a fan of Novels? So this manga is not for you, neither most of manga adaptations of any tittle around.
But if, like me, you are here searching for the anime/manga works, admiring this VISUAL stimulating form of art, so i strongly recommend Mushoku Tensei manga.
It is a story about a weird start (an adult mind in a body of little kid), an adult despicable mind... BUT then it is about full character devenlopment, in a realist kind of way and not that HEY, NEW WORLD, NOW I'M FLAWLESS OVERPOWER thing common in so many isekais.
...
(what don't forbid the protagonist to have his cool moments).
It is not tiring or cansative (different of novels) and i dare you, if you surpass the 3rd chapter, will be hard to stop until reach the last releases.
It also, of course, have moments that touch our feelings, but in a subtle way, what is very satisfiying if compared to forced dramas.
Finally, the art is clean and inspirating. And the cuting from source material are not enough to generate big plot holes (by the perspective of only manga reader)
Really worth. Anyway, it is even better if you don't believe in me and start to read with low expectations.

I'll give it a 10, since i'm not waiting for a only lifetime masterpiece to be amazed, but just an anime that provides you enjoyment, recognizable quality, well written plot, understandable atmosphere, touching feelings and emotion, and run a bit out of conventional.
And Goblin Slayer provides you all that, if you opens your heart and don't be just a pus* freaked out with some open or subtle rape scenes.
Far beyond the history of a boring "one line" character, this show is about:
- a parody opposed to conventional RPG heroism
- a story that take a serious look about fight tactics, weapon choosing, and how to surpass
...
own human limitations.
- a story that don't abuse of ex-machinas in general and even so is not just tragic against the protagonist.
- a honest story about a honest human acting character, with understandable PTSD marks, without great pretentions and even so very interesting development.
Not to mention, the GS is a character with a strong identity even without exhibiting his face, in a peculiar show where nobody have actual names (part of the parody against traditional hero exibithionism)
Being so satisfying in general, it deserves a better consideration. It's hard to come back to watch any other fantasy work that is naive, plain stupid or too pretentious (and failed) just after this.
