Both share Delinquency as a theme for the main characters, the difference being in Onizuka the main delinquent is the teacher and in Yankee-kun its the student. Both have a fair amount of fighting and exaggeration, Onizuka is more mindless fun whereas Yankee is more developed in terms of relationships.

Both stories about modern day magic and its use in the high school, in Mx0 the magic is used through a card and in Mahouka Koukou they channel their magic through a similar system to shorten the casting time. They both use visual ways of gauging ones power, with either the color of the card or an emblem on the uniform.

Both have a very similar humor style, though both shows actually have more serious elements to them despite being comedies. Both seem to be a bit more suited to more adult audiences though, if you dont mind a little fanservice and cheeky humor then you cant go wrong with either of these.

Both have simplistic fighting scenes, which really do show that you do not need over the top super powers or special effects to make a good anime. The more basic animation doesn't make it less enjoyable to watch but retains fluidity when the action starts.

Both series have some really good fighting scenes in them, which make up for the weaker story aspect. With Mugen from Samurai Champloo being the badass, rough gem of a fighter in contrast to Jin, the uniform, well practiced rounen, and from Afro Samurai you have Afro, who is the "number two" of the fighting world, who's so focused on his past that nothing else matters to him at all.
