This is my first review. I'll try to be straight on point. Despite the show having the usual traits of a traditional romcom, this is pretty unique. The story focuses on the tomboyish girl Tomo trying to have his best bud since childhood, Jun, look at her as a girl and not just as a friend. The show exploits this situation and tells how it is living a relationship like this, while dropping tons of comedy and making you reflect about a few things about relationships in general and how you would handle a situation like this.
The characters have a pretty solid build, specially Tomo
...
and her friend Misuzu. Tomo is usually calm, fun, friendly and comprehensive with his friends; above everything, what she appreciates the most are her friends. However, when she gets angry or someone harasses her dear friends, she shows off her incredibly brute force. Because of this and her martial arts abilities, almost everyone fear her since the first moment they meet her. Misuzu has the "bad girl" personality; she is cold towards the people, although in the deep, she cares for her friends, just like Tomo and she and the latter character Carol play a very important role helping the main relationship development.
One thing that is inconsistent, in my opinion, is the first impressions you get from Jun. At the start, you can hardly tell what he is thinking, because every time Tomo tries to "flirt" with him, he gets unresponsive and keeps himself in the best bud mood. This and the lack of monologue from him at the start makes me think they could have managed his thoughts and feelings better. However, as the story progresses and his background is shown, his thoughts become clearer.
The show is based on a short manga, so it is a little fast-paced and gives you 2 "chapters" every episode. Each one is independent from each other and tells a short part of the story, but you need to watch them preferably in order, because they are in chronological order, after all.
The art is good, colorful. The animations of exaggerated situations are hilarious. The music is also good, gives the mood for every scene.
You should give this a try. Thank you for reading!
