The female leads, Yukari (Penguin Kakumei) and Mikoto (Last Game), are very similar characters. Both come from disadvantaged single-parent households and their situation has transformed them into responsible, hard-working daughters whose only goal is to become a public servant. Both are also perfect at absolutely everything they do. The stories center on the special men these girls meet and how their humble, unambitious lives are changed. Penguin Kakumei is about showbiz and takes place during high school, while Last Game has a time-jump and covers over a decade--more focus is on the romance in the latter.

Kouun no Rihatsushi

These two yaoi manga both feature a shy high schooler (similar to each other in disposition and tall, broad physique) that falls in love with a beautiful, slightly older and far more confident male. Once their relationships finally start, they need to be encouraged to initiate intimacy. If you like one, you will surely like the other. KOwA and KoR share congruent styles and are very easy one-volume reads. Kouun no Rihatsushi has, in my opinion, more engaging characters and plot, but both are well-done with clean art and a cute romance that you know from page one will end well. Sometimes it is nice to be free of drama when you are reading.

Otome Youkai Zakuro

Both 12 episodes in length, Ookami-san and Otome Youkai Zakuro are colorful, visually appealing series that are simple to watch and not think too hard about. The main male character of each is easily frightened but will rise to the occasion when he needs to be brave, soon catching the attention of his respective spunky-yet-shy female lead. The comedic aspects of both shows rely on these distinct, somewhat cliched characterizations that nonetheless inspire chuckles. The cultural references that define them are also comparable; Ookami-san centers around fairy tales, while Otome Youkai Zakuro features Japanese spirits.
