This is my first attempt to write a serious review. I try to apply some criticism to the animes I watch but I also highly value what I felt while watching a certain anime. That being said, I apologize in advance if my criticism isn’t sharp enough throughout this review. Also, be aware English isn’t my native language.
Story – 10/10
Nana’s story is born through the random encounter of two completely different characters, both of them named Nana. Even though they differ in so many aspects and have such opposite visions, they manage to get to know each other and their stories become intertwined. That encounter

leads to the reunion of people with different lifestyles and to an amazing drama.
Art – 8/10
So, I know some people who just won’t watch Nana because of its art style. And I have to be honest here: it was one aspect that put me a bit off when I was looking for some new anime to watch. The characters do seem a bit too skinny and tall sometimes but it doesn’t really matter because once you start watching the anime, you’ll realize that there is really no better art style to portray the characters of this anime. There are actually several parts where if you just take some time, pause the anime and observe the characters in front of you, they look beautiful and, in a certain way, realistic. Also, in my opinion, the art style gives them a certain depth and it also really fits the tone and story of this anime. Summing it all up; I came to love the art style and I believe most of the people who watched this anime, did too.
Characters – 10/10
In my honest opinion, this is where Nana truly shines. The characters are just so well developed that even if you don’t like their attitudes, you’ll end up having no choice other than to just empathize with them or at least relate to them at a certain level. There are so many animes that only focus on the main characters and basically ignore the other characters, but Nana certainly isn’t one of them. This is one of those animes where all characters have their importance and are given time to shine and make you care about them. They are well portrayed and realistic: your favorite character won’t be perfect. They will have flaws. Flaws that only make them look more human and emotionally relatable.
Soundtrack – 10/10
Well, what can I say other than it is amazing? I’m not trying to sell anything here; it just truly is amazing. All the chosen voice actors do their job right and both singers chosen for Nana Osaki and Reira are amazing, making every performance in the anime truly enjoyable. Comparing to other music animes I’ve seen, such as Beck or Nodame Cantabile, I don’t think there is such a big of a focus on the music-making part. The music is obviously there, but not as much as it is in the animes I’ve just mentioned. The right tune just plays at the right moment and it just hits you. It hits you and you realize you’ve stumbled upon a masterpiece.
Overall – 10/10
I’ve watched Nana two times so far and I can say that both times I felt the exact same way: fascinated. The characters and music just pull you in. The drama is somewhat intense but not in a way that will bother you; on the contrary. I recommend this to all those interested in going on a so-called “feels trip” and who are fans of the drama genre and want a story where characters actually matter. Whether you’re a huge music fan or not, won’t really affect your enjoyment of this anime; as I said, the OST is amazing and it will just do its job at the right moment. Enjoy the journey.
