I think it was fine and could recommend the first 8 episodes, but the remaining 4 ruined my experience, personally; it felt like there was a major tonal shift from slice-of-life and comedy to action and "friendship" (and a bit of intrigue), which simply made the last episodes not enjoyable/funny to me. The way that the territorial/friendship conflict was handled towards the end made it difficult for me to laugh at the small attempts at slapstick; the contrast in vibes was simply too jarring. Also, the cleric's behavior was *really* annoying for me (perhaps more appropriate for non-comedy anime), and that further soured any
...
attempts at humor. I'm disappointed that the comedy and approach to light-hearted interpersonal development that drew me in from the first several episodes didn't seem to stay to the end of the series.
My personal rating of this series would be a 3/10 as an overall experience, but I do think other people might enjoy it more than I did, hence the 5/10 overall score. Up until episode 8, I'd say my personal experience was like, a 7 or 8 out of 10.

I was so upset by how this anime progressed; and to be honest, my main issue was with Tachibana.
Initially, Tachibana as a character felt like he had potential, with ideas of having years of experience as a 32 year old adult man dealing with issues that a young, attractive woman might face in a fantasy world. But instead what I got was is a clingy (manageable, can make it work), whiny (not fine), inept (*really* not fine) screaming child who could not stop and think at all throughout this series. No sense of strategy, no sense of responsibility, blamed his problems on Jinguuji, and cried
...
like he was some kind of innocent victim when his situation was a result of his own choices and didn't takes responsibility for the impact his actions have on others. He, quite frankly, never thought about Jinguuji's welfare when he gets on with his antics and what is set up as a comedic slice-of-life ended up becoming a "what is he going to f- up this episode" show - and not in a good way. I hated how he had no sense of self-preservation and especially no concern over preserving what seemed to be his best and only friend, and seemed to go to great lengths to harm said friend at times (I literally don't care if he's possessed or whatever, I hate plot devices like that). We did not see him grow throughout this series. Also, the theme of him loving alcohol and complaining when he couldn't get some and acting like a total idiot when he did get some *might* be funny with a different character (in a different universe), but came off absolutely repulsive with him IMO. I guess there might be some sort of subtext of him being a dysfunctional alcoholic somewhere, but I was just so appalled by his character that I need to stop thinking about this series to preserve what little sanity I have left. I cannot believe, even as a caricature of a 32 year old man's personality, that this is how they decided to write his character.
To be fair, they did try to have some sort of last-minute redemption, but by that point I was just so angry that seeing Jinguuji praise Tachibana at that point just pissed me off more. There was something that felt so empty about having *Jinguuji* be the one learning "life lessons" on how to be a better person at that point, never mind the catastrophic build up of events to that point (i.e. is this *really* the time to be laughing and learning life lessons?). I'm sure there were some other moments that other viewers found meaningful in the main characters' relationship, but none that were notable enough for me to remember.
I think some people found some ideas/quotes regarding gender and identity insightful, but I simply did not find any arguments/ideas presented/defended well enough for me to take seriously from this series (not that the presented ideas or out-of-context quotes are *wrong* per say or that I necessarily disagreed, but rather the ideas felt left so weakly defended and used for jokes that it just felt empty).
Anyways, as someone into low-stakes comedy and slice-of-life, this anime was (perhaps deceptively) really not for me.

Overall - 8/10 - A decent slice of life series; feels like it falls under comedy as a secondary genre. Character personalities a bit wacky but alright when not taken seriously. Recommended for people who like slice of life; may be a bit boring for others.
Art - 9/10 - no complaints; clean, reasonably detailed, smooth animation, good facial expressions, etc.
Story - 7/10
Generally a decent slice of life plot, has plenty of cute moments, which felt like the major draw.
Personally found the comedy to be a bit hit or miss; some jokes/behaviors felt a bit overused for me (or simply not funny, which is
...
fine - not all the jokes will be a hit with everyone).
Some behaviors/tropes/dynamics seem to be borrowed from BL, which could be alright, though I found some of these aspects clash with what I'm looking for in a slice of life series (i.e. looking for something mostly relaxed and light-hearted, not trying to build drama and suspense), though did not end up being a particularly major issue in the end.
That aside, I kind of felt like the relationship between the main two characters could have benefited from a greater sense of solidity or development.
Major Characters
- Momose - 8/10 - decent MC, some viewers may find the repeated use of health issues as a plot device to be irritating, though I personally found his approach to communication (or lack thereof) to be more annoying.
- Shirosaki - 9/10 - good deuteragonist, likeable character, charmingly airheaded, good source of conflict resolution, humor, and plot development. My favorite character.
- Aoyama - 7/10 - serves his purpose as a supporting character, kind of annoyed me in the second half of the series, his quirk can be funny but I felt it was used too often (or otherwise needed better setup or something).
- Kinjou - 6/10 - I think I would have liked him more if there was greater separation between his story and that of Momose/Shirosaki; his personality felt like it could be fine on its own, but it created an odd rivalry dynamic which I found quite unpleasant. Honestly, for me, it felt like he got in the way of the story - which is a pity, since I think his dynamic with Aoyama *could* have been interesting.
