SPOILERS
I know this is still airing but the direction it's heading is really not looking good.
This show looks like some thing of quality we expect coming out of trigger, problem is that's all there is.
Story: generic mech anime set up with the monster of the week going for a while, then switching to shallow character development episodes. the only interesting parts being 002's backstory. so far the plot is trying to make a turn around by revealing main characters Hiro and 002's past which unfortunately wasn't anything interesting. there are many questionable things that are un-explained so far in the show.
...
for some reason the organization that the characters are working for is just screwing themselves over and over by treating their pilots like shit.
Art: standard trigger quality, nice animations all around. however design wise is where this show falls short. first of all, the most important thing in a mech show--the mechs. they are so inconsistent, we don't know what they are capable off, they don't have any out standing specialty, we are never explained what their limits are, some times small explosions damages them, but bigger ones doesn't, the pilots un-singchronize with each other way too easily for these things to be effective. with Gurren Lagann as a predecessor you'd think they know how to handle mechs. but it seems that the franxx are a bad mixture between "super robots" and "realistic robots." also the mouths on them is just goofy.
Sound: really nothing special, the op is meh, ending is meh, osts are meh.
Characters: awful, just awful. main character Hiro looks like your generic main male protagonist, except he sucks at that job. Hiro is not simply the Shinji type of "pussy main character." He is a straight up asshole. Hiro spends his youth making promises in order to break every one of them. He forgets his promise with Ichigo, forgets his promise Mitsuru, forgets his promise to 002. Hiro also basically have no concept of taking a stand on his values because he just let shit happen. People are complaining about Ichigo being annoying when really is just Hiro ruining everything. Unfortunately Ichigo is one of the most consistent characters in this show. 002 is obviously the star of the show, but she really can't pull the other guys through by herself. A quick run down of the rest of the characters is: none of the matters, none of them are special, none of them are interesting, none of them are memorable, all of them are generic af.
Enjoyment: a steady decline since episode 1, every episode is less bearable that the last. Now that I'm at episode 14, i can honestly say that I hope everybody besides 002 dies in the end, because I hate them.
Overall: Mediocre at best (really pushing it).
HOWEVER! this show still have a chance. from experience Trigger series have the potential to really kick in in the second half. example being gurren lagann and kill la kill. and this is where the show is right now. If we are lucky, that Trigger magic will kick in soon and rescue this show all together. Of course this is being extremely optimistic, but I do hope this show does well and fixes its mistakes.

Includes spoilers
It's bad. It's so bad.
I had high hopes after season 1 (which is an at least 9/10 piece of art), this is just disgusting compared to it's predecessor. I will rate this season comparing to season 1.
Story: 1/10
literally nothing important happens, that's not saying no plot progression was made. Like season 1 they tried to cram as much information as they could in to 4 episodes, except it was way lighter in season one due to the high quality battles. This entire season is purely exposition, with no mech fights that are remotely comparable to season 1. The intense battles between the 2 main
...
characters was what drove the show to greatness, this season is just nothing comparison, literally like not watching anything. since none of the side characters ever got any development, none of them matters when they die. the main characters didn't even fight so they had plot shield the entire time, which made none of the battles involving them interesting.things that drives the plot is as pointless as it gets. Things that happens in season 1: Io got captured, Claudia dies, Daryl looses his limbs. How season 2 negated all of these things: Io breaks out first thing for no good reason, Claudia is just not dead, 2 limbs or no limbs, Daryl once in a while clinches his teeth OH NO!
Art: 7/10 not much to say, very stylized way that excelled in season 1 now mostly spent on talking animation. goofy ass fodder mechs and planes ruins the moments (when there are basically no "moments")
Sound: 5/10 remember how much the frantic, scattered jazz pushed the space battles in the asteroid field? well now we have that over slow underwater crap that doesn't ever fit the pace of the music.
Character: 1/10 Whats character development? Season 1 characters you gave a shit about because nobody else mattered: Io, Daryl. Season 2 you gave a shit about because nobody else mattered: just Io. I'm willing to bet that you can't name anymore than Io Daryl and Claudia off of your head because none of them made any kind of impression nor impact on the story. Season 2 characters include: that bald chick, that one chick that played an instrument, the professor chick that has daddy issues
Enjoyment: 1/10 i want my wasted time back. it's a gundam show, there is barely any gundam, plus the only gundam lost it's first legit battle to some dude.
Over all: 3/10 is as generous as I can get
After note: this season shouldn't even be called gundam thunderbolt since it has nothing to do with gundam thudnerbolt. the actual gundam: thunderbolt isn't in here, the "thunderbolt sector" wasn't in here, the shit that happened in gundam thunderbolt didn't matter cause the fact that claudia is alive, and Io escaping immediately negates all of season 1's plot. This is literally a piece of garbage using a superior show's title to gain views.

2 teens dies via "subway attack," finds themselves in a room somewhere in tokyo with some other people. they are then sent on missions to kill aliens by a weird black ball. I read this manga because i liked the anime adaption and wanted more of it. To my amazement, these 383 chapters delivers the most intense and interesting science fiction I have ever gazed upon.
Story:
10/10 every large story arc is unique and great in its own way.
Each arc presents a different set of problems and rules our protagonists must endure or bypass. The setting is almost never the same, and the intensity of
...
each battle only ever increases. the scifi side of the story questions many things we do as a society, our humanity, our purpose and future. the story also touches many other subjects such as crimes, education, and many social issues; leaving you thinking what "it" really meant.
Art:
9/10 during the first few chapters the art seems fairly average. However, as the manga progress to its later stages, the "art" becomes so amazing in every aspect. the characters are uniquely drawn, while they are all different, each group shares its own style. the settings (includes the area the plot is at + atmosphere + other art words) is just astonishing, this I simply cannot explain with out spoilers so go see for your selves (art major here if u want any credentials).
Character:
10/10 main characters basically pushes the whole "hero's journey" to a whole different level. all and I mean all side characters adds some kind of value to the story. Even the comic relief characters are important! (ok maybe the panda is pushing it a little) the author had these characters do exactly what they need to in order to add their weight to the plot. these characters also have a huge variety of backgrounds from students to politicians to criminals and even infants.
(oh god Kei gat so bad ass durin the last half im startin to question my sexuality)
Enjoyment:
10/10 knees weak, arms are heavy. There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti. 2 intense 4 me. jokes aside, this whole thing can sent you through a full range of emotions such as anger, sadness, joy, spaghetti
Overall:
10/10 so far I have read the whole thing twice and interpreted its ending twice. the plot follows a typical science fiction writing style blending perfectly with amazing shonnen like battles and adult action movies. I think neither the anime nor the movie interpretations did this series justice, so I strongly suggest reading it.
p.s. very violent and sexual in some parts, not for the faint hearted
