This is what I've been waiting for: an RK anime that adapts the manga. No filler eps, no cloying little girls, no pink gi.
There are a few extra things, such as extended flashbacks of Sanosuke's and Katsu's days in the Sekihoutai. Also, of Aoshi, Hannya, and the Oniwabanshuu. These flashbacks add depth to all the characters.
So awesome to finally see the Hiruma Bros and the real plot against Kamiya Kasshin Ryu.
I can't wait to see the Kyoto Arc and hopefully the Jinchuu Arc.
The music is the one area this anime lacks. As riddled with fillers as it was, the old anime

So you think you know YuGiOh? Likely, you started out watching the YGO Duel Monsters dub on TV, then watched the Japanese version and saw how much stuff had been left out in order to make the series more kid friendly for the US. Having done that, you might think you have the whole story.
What if I told you that there was another series, totally different from DM, even though it's set in Domino and has the exact same characters? You'd say I'm either lying or crazy! I don't blame you. However, this series does in fact exist! In 1998, two years before DM was adapted ... Aug 20, 2016
Well, it's nice to finally have a full adaptation of the Berserk manga. The manga is a huge chunk to bite off, so this anime takes a few shortcuts by omitting what are essentially filler arcs of the manga (like the one with the insect girls in the forest) and just sticks to the main point of introducing the characters and getting Guts' group together.
The biggest shortcoming is the art. The characters all look more like robots than people, with empty eyes and expressionless faces. I understand the use of CGI since there's so much source material to cover and probably scant time to ... Jul 27, 2015
I would love to have given this anime tens straight across the board. However, since I've read the manga, the anime just pales in comparison. The manga story balances comedy with drama, whereas in the anime, there's a lot of superfluous comedy. The anime also introduces unnecessary characters like Oguni Genzai's granddaughters and has many needless fillers, which detract from the overall story.
However, that said... When they follow the manga, the anime is great. The first season has some fillers and takes liberties with the source material. However, if you can sit through it, the second season makes up for it. Following the manga almost ... Jul 27, 2015
If you loved the RK manga and hated the fact that the Jinchuu Arc never made it into the anime, and if you hate how the Himura family was treated in Seisouhen, this is for you. It's only three minutes long, but it portrays the Himura family the way Nobuhiro Watsuki pictured them: as a happy, functional family living in the new era, instead of the way Seisouhen portrayed them.

I love this manga/anime, because unlike many stories like this, the main character is a total enigma when the story starts and we have to wait for the layers of the mystery to be pealed back before we can fully know him.
What I also love is that Rurouni Kenshin has a bit of everything in it: action, comedy, drama, romance and tragedy. All of these things fit seamlessly together to create a deep and very satisfying story. The characters themselves are all well developed, even those who don't play a large part. Nobody feels one dimensional in this. These all seem like people that ... Apr 6, 2012
I knew out of the gate that I would feel little fondness for this OVA, having been disappointed that it wasn't the animation of the Revenge Arc I've been wanting for years.
On its own, the OVA was way too fast-paced, changed too many key elements of the story around and made Kenshin too OOC for me to enjoy it. Without spoiling it, Kenshin several times acted more like Battousai than the Rurouni even though he had no reason to, including doing something to an opponent very similar to what he had done to an opponent in Tsuiokuhen. So over all, they tried to cram too much into ... Jan 6, 2008
This OVA restored my faith in RK animation. I hate the second set of OVAs and find the TV series just too childish for my liking, but this gem has it all. It's more serious than the anime, but isn't pointless emo tragicrap like the last OVA.
This is set during the Bakumatsu when Kenshin is a young assassin on the razor's edge of insanity. Every night, he spills blood in the hopes of bringing in the new era of peace for the people of Japan. Every night, his soul dies a bit more. One night, he crosses swords with a young Shogunate swordsman who is ... Jan 6, 2008
**THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS**
Seisouhen is a feast for the senses. Sound and sightwise, nothing much else can compare to it. The art is crisp and beautiful and the sound track is superb. However, for story and characterization, it is simply terrible. Seisouhen attempts to compress the ten volume Jinchuu Arc into an hour and a half. It horribly butchers the characters and makes them do things they would never have done in the canon story. It reduces Enishi from a brilliant protagonist to one dimensional psychopath who swoops in and kidnaps Kaoru in order to bate Kenshin to fight. He is basically a second Udo Jinei. Sanosuke, ... |
