I know giving a show like this a 10/10 almost always comes off as over exaggeration and something only done as a joke but this rating is my genuine feeling.

It took me almost 8 months to watch all 26 episodes and it's because after the first couple of episodes I had a realization and made the conscious decision that instead of just binge watching and getting it over with, I would instead save it for those rainy days where I REALLY need a pick me up to keep me goig.

After thinking about for a bit, I came to realization the best way to describe why ... like this show so much would be a comparison against non other than Neon Genesis Evangelion. For as wild as it sounds, I think this actually works especially because NGE is a much more known show and one that you're more likely to actually watch or have already watched. This is coming from a self proclaimed fan of NGE when I say my experience with that show was one of constant misery and some of lowest most depressing feelings ever qt every minute having me crying more than I ever have watching anything else. Azumanga Daioh is the absolute exact mirror opposite of that as in every single moment of this show filled me with some of purest feelings of joy and happiness having me constantly giggling and laughing, sometimes so much that by the end of the episode my cheeks would hurt from having a constant smile for that duration and also having cry, but this time the good kind of tears while saying "awww" with my hands on top of my heart.

I really don't expect everyone else that ends up watching the show to also experience the same things as I did considering the current state of my life, but personally I'm very thankful to have finally watched it because in the past few where it feels like everything is only going downhill in my personal life and I'm getting closer and closer to reaching my end point, this show managed to pull me back up even just very slightly so in the grand scheme of things.

And to think I only started watching after seeing a 3 second long clip of the Dubbed Frieren saying "kill yourself"
some of the side characters introduced in 2nd half of the show did sometimes bring the experience down by being generic anime character stereotypes and most importantly by taking precious screen-time away from the main cast, but it still wasn't enough for me to not give it that 10/10 score because of all the good that it did. This is that rear case of a show with very intriguing premise actually delivering.
I'm hoping the success of this show inspires more laid back shows with very ... likable characters and an actual story with clear final goal.
Easiest recommend of my life.
