Hyakuren no Haou to Seiyaku no Valkyria had a good concept for an isekai anime but was unfortunately rushed and cheated on by budget.
The pet peeves I had in this anime were:
CGI budget cuts; Grandcrest Senki had budget cuts too but they tried to hide it really well. The Budget cuts I think also caused the mediocre ending.
Main character is weak asf, and does nothing besides google search strategies...
The antagonists were just flat characters.
The relationship the main character had with the girl back in Japan was a good excuse to not touch his harem (IMO more anime should do this excuse instead of making
...
the main character a beta male) but their relationship was really bland and unrealistic.
This anime has an anime original ending, even changing the girl he ends up with.
Verdict: reboot this anime, this time with a good studio, the budget put into this show is not enough for a strategic/war anime.

While the first 24 episodes were very good and well paced, the remaining 13 episodes were not.
Starting at episode 25, a major character dies. The character's death was one of the most unsatisfying I have ever seen.
It felt very rushed and half-assed that I was wondering if they did this because the studio only wanted to do 37 episodes.
In summary, I'd give the first 24 episodes a whopping 9, however I will give the remaining, an 8..
The premise of Death Note is rather unique and interesting even to this day.
What would someone do if they had the power to kill anyone just by writing their
...
name inside a book?
Even more interesting what if the main character had this power?
The typical anime protagonist would hardly use it or even use it at all.
Light (The main protagonist) however is different, when he gets the notebook that grants him the power to kill any humans, he goes on a rampage.
The main character is really unique that he is the hero of the story but he is also the villain of it.
But the main character isn't the only one who gets fleshed out, in Death Note, there really isn't a side character (except background characters).
Almost every character in Death Note that has a name has a deep meaningful character development.
It's one of the things Death Note utilizes a lot, by building them up to be our typical father figure, or about to reform from their past misdeeds they are written off and we feel more empathy towards them.
Besides arguably the second most major character dying off mid-way through the story in an unsatisfying way, almost every character gets a good send off before the series ends.
First 24 episodes: 9
Remaining 13 episodes: 8

Edit 2:
While obviously not a masterpiece, the show doesn't deserve ALL the hate.
This is one of those shows that takes time to build up, heck by the end of this season I bet we haven't assembled the team yet.
- Though I'm concerned with the recent pacing as it seems like they are gearing up for rushing the team building.
With shows that feature a large team of main characters like Akame ga Kill, you typically have to have an arc for each member, or kill them early in the story to fit the show's episode count.
The problem with this show is that it will only have
...
about 12 episodes, at its current pacing we'll get even more characters into the anime while not having any character development for the characters we DO have.
Just so you don't get misinformed;
While the Anohana connections are clear, the SAO factor is not.
First of all, Shichisei no Subaru up to the most recent episode (5) has little to no similarities with SAO.
To call Shichisei no Subaru an SAO copy is like saying Log Horizon, Grimgar, Accel World, and Overlord is a copy because they involve a Virtual MMO.
The only similarities this anime has with SAO besides them both being Virtual MMOs is;
A touch screen you can summon with your right hand.
Character not being able to log out.
The characters are fairly generic, you got the main character Haruto that is borderline OP but not too op that he makes the rest of the team useless.
- Like Asahi, he needs more character development.
There's Asahi, the loli in the main cast who is in a similar situation as Meiko from Anohana. - Only concern about this character is that she is almost the centre of the plot yet up to episode 6 we get little depth of her character.
The borderline tsundere that can not express her feelings to the MC while being jealous of the bond of the loli and the main character. - The jealousy is more tolerable than other anime characters of this archetype that I have seen before. The love triangle between her, the MC, and Asashi is one of the more interesting parts of the series.
And the glasses boi Takanori that is also jealous that loli is close with the main character.
- I honestly find this guy the most annoying, they have not given an explanation as to why this guy is so obsessed with Asahi besides it being a childhood crush.
There's also the shy glasses girl who is in love with glasses boi but also can't express her feelings.
- Hoping that she'll be a season 2 character and not in season 1.
The American boi that seems just there to be the Ban (Seven Deadly Sins reference) of the group. - Hoping that he'll be a season 2 character and not in season 1
Besides glasses boi being too much of an annoyance, the characters are very DECENT.
Love Triangles:
This anime probably has one of the many love triangles I've seen in recent years, while some are tolerable some are not.
Main-character kun is close to loli chan, but tsundere san is jealous of loli chan of how close she is to main character kun. - tolerable
Glasses tan likes loli chan and is jealous of main character kun. - annoying
Shy Female Glasses tan likes male Glasses tan but can't express her feelings. - unexplored
And American dono is just there. - give this man a romantic tension

**This is coming from a guy that just the entire Code Geass S1 S2 5 days before along with 2 romance and 1 isekai anime**
Okay, so I was at first very skeptical and avoided watching this anime due to the reviews and how I heard some nasty stuff from one or two of the characters.
Now, I'm the type of guy to watches the entire anime if it has good reviews and premise, regardless of my first impressions.
Due to the reviews I would have not tried it at all if it weren't for the fact that my anime to watch list was getting short.
So because of
...
that beautiful ending that made me shed a tear in Guilty Crown, I'll just be straight and give the anime an overall of 9/10 and I wouldn't be lying to myself if I said it was only slightly below Code Geass if not on par.
Story - 8/10
If you watched Code Geass, Guilty Crown will look familiar to you as especially in the second half of the series, there are clear parallels.
Now I personally don't care about inspired plots as long as it's executed very well and was enjoyable.
Although it has parallels to Code Geass, it also has many differences.
1.
The mechs in this series are cannon fodder and not payed attention to as much as the foot soldiers, unlike in Code Geass where whoever had the newest nightmare (mech) would just crush everyone.
2.
MC is not smart and the battles aren't that tactical.
The battles are mostly simple and don't have the same tactical analysis as an anime like Code Geass.
Also like Code Geass, Guilty crown has many twisted and sometimes cruel plot twists and plot points.
Although not at the level of Genocide, you'll see the MC do very terrible decisions that will get people killed, twisted, corrupt, etc.
If I had to pick the main themes of Guilty Crown in order, it would be;
1. Drama, Guilty Crown had mostly focused on the MC going through a change in personality through personal hardships and abuse from other characters.
(p.s. it has one of the most twisted drama I've seen in a long time)
2. Romance, Guilty Crown had a very obvious romance mixed in with the drama, not romance you'd see in a harem anime where every girl is instantly falling in love with the MC for no reason at all.
Instead, it's quite the opposite as one of the main characters (not the protagonist) actually gets the harem treatment.
In fact it's because of the romance that I consider Guilty Crown's ending beautiful.
I'd say that Guilty Crown has got the better of Code Geass when it comes to Romance.
3. Action, the reason I don't put this higher than drama and romance is because of how quick the battles are decided and how there's not really that much fighting involved.
Characters - 7.5/10
Okay let's begin with the protagonist.
Shu Ouma is a 16 year old boy that is very shy and introverted.
Without spoiling too much, I think other reviewers are being too harsh on Shu.
Shu was just a normal kid who didn't really have any amazing athleticism, intelligence, or charisma.
He is suppose to mirror the viewers, be honest with yourself. You wouldn't have done better if you were suddenly thrown into a fire fight with mechas launching missiles at people and massacring them would you?
Shu isn't your typical protagonist who has either again, Intelligence, Power, Athleticism, Charisma.
But I think it was what kept me interested in Shu.
Throughout Guilty Crown, Shu has gone through the biggest character development I've seen so far in an anime protagonist.
He slowly paces from being close to other people, cowardly even, to being open to other people, (even leading them) and being brave.
The next character, Inori.
She is the main love interest of Shu/protagonist.
If you watched Code Geass, Inori would have a strikingly similar personality and character development as CC.
In the first half of the series, Inori had little personality and was more introverted than Shu himself.
Her character development was on par, if not better than CC from Code Geass as she had one of the biggest change of personality I've seen from an anime protagonist's love interest.
The middle part of the first half of the series made me feel a little weird about Inori due to some misunderstandings that later get explained in the later part of the story. (If I said more, it'd be major spoilers) (just know that she isn't a "wh0re")
Her relationship with Shu was really beautiful and was what really made me sad a bit during the ending of the series.
Also she does all the beautiful OSTs and song of the anime, take that CC!
Art - 9/10
Guilty Crown has good character designs and animation that I'm surprised that it was made in 2011.
It was very colourful and surpass a lot of series that has come out in 2011 prior and even a lot today.
Sound - 9/10
It doesn't really have that many openings and songs, but it really is good.
And since it's Inori that does the singing, it's often used in very dramatic scenes of the show and also was one of the things that make the ending so sad and memorable.
Enjoyment - 10/10
If you're bored and can't decide to marathon another anime you already watched or try Guilty Crown, pick Guilty Crown.
Shut your brain down and stop looking for plot holes, watch 4 episodes and I can guarantee that you can be hooked into this anime.
Don't skip scenes, as a lot of scenes are reflected back to and what makes the later half of the series beautiful.
I admit that this series has plot holes, but I don't think people should be discouraged from watching this anime due to the over the top harsh reviews.
-also Inori is best girl-
