A breath of fresh air after watching so much unoriginal/generic anime. Helck finds a way to have charming, believable characters while delivering an interesting/compelling plot leaving you wanting more. It's not perfect though, and can drag at times, while the animation suffers a bit toward the end.
At the start the anime is more of a gag show with Helck trying to become the next demon lord, depite being a human. The jokes were quite funny, and I would have been fine if the whole show was just that. I'm not complaining though, since what came next was good as well. We open up to a
...
large world full of different people and an interesting plot to hold it all together.
There were times it was a bit too slow, especially during some flashbacks, but overall I was quite interested. The animation was mostly passable, but nothing too impressive. Toward the end you can really see the budget running out. Sode note, I was really impressed at the complete lack of fanservice in this show. Like not even one scene. There's usually at least a bit in any anime I watch.
I gotta address the ending though. This is only the first half of the series, and there's no signs of the second half getting an anime. If you aren't a manga reader, you may not want to start a series that won't finish. If you don't mind an unfinished story though, I do recommend it.

It's a wild show. They got the most ridiculous things happening, and straight up lies about physics/science to try and back it up. It's quite entertaining, but a lot of fight kinda just drag. It's basically taking turns basically killing the other person, then they retreat and do it all again a few more times.
During the show, I felt like I was supposed to know a lot of these characters already. I admit, I never saw the previous Baki series, and I suffered for it it seems. New characters are contently coming up, and it feels like we're supposed to already know them from the
...
pervious show. So maybe it would be better to watch that first.
Even with the ridiculous fights, the show overall did drag a bit, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to get through the next part, but we'll see.

It started out interesting, but the stupidity of the protagonist is too much to really suspend your disbelief at. The premise is this guy can only use basic level skills, but he uses them at legendary capacity. The whole time he remains oblivious of how powerful he is though. At the start it was dumb, but maybe believable as a country bumpkin he might not be too familiar with different magical beasts, but by the time he sees the king of the opposing army all clad in gold and wearing a crown, and he think it's just a "defenseless old man". It's gone way too
...
far.
Animation wise, it's passable most of the time, but they for sure were trying to save money where they could. Lots of shots where a character is talking, but you can't see their mouth. The characters all basically exist to be impressed at his feats. No one has much of an interesting backstory or personality. At the end of the day, people being impressed at someone being overpowered IS entertaining. Not enough though, and I was getting quite bored of it toward the end. I did enjoy it alright though, so I guess I recommend it if you just want to watch a show about an overpowered guy.

So, I was so close to dropping this show right at the start. It was just so stupid. I always hate it in shows where character act/react to things in unrealistic ways, and this show is the epitome. People are dying left and right, and people are for sure not reacting appropriately. I just had to check the discussions on the first episode, and found people saying this show was supposed to be a parody. After that, I got it.
It's just so stupid, but I couldn't stop watching. The trope of the protagonist getting jumped by bandits at night happens, and he's just like, "I
...
guess I'll kill you now." He's constantly interrupting people by just killing them. His nonchalant attitude is very relatable, yet he isn't some sort of villain/edge lord. The other characters are pretty ridiculous as well, but not really relatable. They just kinda have no remorse, and most I would consider evil. They do make funny commentary sometimes though, or say something I was thinking.
The plot is a jumbled mess, but still makes some sense. The show is just a bunch of ridiculous things after another. Like, the sage character just gets bored and decides to start a battle royale to the death, and everyone just gets on board. They've got random classes like a chef who can cut anything, since he can cut any ingredient.
The thing is, it's just so much of a train wreck, I'm not even sure it is a parody. Maybe we are all laughing at the author, instead of with him. I can't believe I'm actually recommending this anime and giving it a '7'. At the end of the day, it came down to if I was engrossed the whole way, and wanted to keep watching more. I pretty much binged the whole show over 2 days, so I for sure enjoyed it. My reputation will never recover.

If you care at all about plot, then this show will be quite frustrating for you. Bungo Stray Dogs follows the standard action shonen formula of having lots of character with different powers/abilities. This powers are unique and interesting, but and the characters start out okay for the most part, but then just devolve into the same jokes over and over.
I could get past all of that though, it's the plot, or disregard for consistency/realism that frustrates me too much. This show is not afraid to have lots of people die, as long as they are unnamed characters. They're killing people left and right to
...
show how brutal the enemy is, but the main characters have supreme plot armor. Block a whole barrage of bullets form a machine gun? You'll live. Get stabbed in the chest by a ruthless killer? I guess he missed the vitals. If you're a main character though, you can just stand in front of a group of people shooting machine guns at you, not even dodging, and none of the bullets will hit you. That's just one part of the plot, the dialogue is weirdly sexual sometimes, and out of place. They save a girl in her underwear from drowning, and the boss comments how she's really sexy. Like what the hell?
Anyway, I could talk longer about it, but that's just a taste of what you're in store for if you watch this. I actually did get enough enjoyment to finish the first season though, but I won't be watching the rest. So I guess I recommend it only if the stuff I mentioned doesn't seem that bad for you.

Man, this anime has it's highs and lows. You come in with this big brain edgy OC who fluctuates from different levels of cringe, and it should be done there. The hook is a lot of what they do is actually logical in the context, and even though it's harsh, you can still relate to their decisions. The problem is it still has plenty of moments that just don't make logical sense, so much that it kinda ruins the whole thing a bit.
The world is pretty much generic fantasy world stuff. Monsters, dungeons, classes, guilds, etc. It's done well enough though. The characters are also
...
fine enough I guess. You're really here for the main character, but they do build up the side characters quite a bit too though. For Alma, they give her a fairly interesting backstory/motivation, but it's rally undermined by her having her boobs out all the time. Like even multiple times she comments about how sho doesn't like people staring. If that's the case, why doesn't she actually wear something practical? It's kinda embarrassing and cringe, making you think this is some pervy show, which it doesn't ahve much of otherwise.
Now for some spoilers, although I'll try not to get too specific. The plot up until the mafia was fine. During that one, the whole scenario is just lazy, and doesn't make sense. He should have died the first time he had someone try to assassinate him. The mafia leader makes no sense either. The minions follow him to respect their former leader, despite him doing everything completely opposite to their former leaders values? One of them says they regret killing innocent children at the bosses orders? Like, they could have all stopped anytime. But to make matters worse, after they find out they aren't a legitimate heir, and they even killed the old boss, they still say they will follow him if he wins a duel he can assign anyone to. He assigns someone who should have for sure won, but plot armor. Also, then he somehow talks his way out of being killed by someone else by them being impressed? That's nothing compared to how he ruins another party. First of all, maybe this would be explained later, but the guildmaster is just fixing things for the MC for seemingly no reason. Maybe he likes his grandfather, so he's giving special treatment? He makes up a contest that is set up for the MC to win and the other team to get disbanded. I know I'm just rambling now, but it was so frustrating seeing people act in such stupid ways just so the plot can move along. The other party agrees to disband if they can't beat a monster harder than anything they've faced before? Also, the guildmaster, who is trying to nurture talent, is setting up a deal to disband a powerful party? It gets worse though. After the party is losing to the monster, the leader decides that it's too much for them, so they should work together with the MCs team to defeat the monster. The party somehow takes this logical suggestion as the biggest betrayal, and one of them even stabs the leader. Like what the hell? That makes no sense, and wasn't earned. Of course the MCs party beats the monster fairly easily, since it was setup for it to be easy by the guildmaster since they wanted them to win for some reason.
Anyway, I apologize for the ramble, but I had to get all my thoughts out. All things considered, I am interested in seeing how this goes, but if I watch the next season I may drop it if something as stupid happens again.

When this anime premiered, I read comments saying this anime wouldn't be able to get super popular due to how "weird" it was. There was so much hype, especially due to the amazing opening. Now that it's finished, I binged it all in a few days. It is good, but for sure leans on the many established tropes of the many shonen anime before it.
I mean, not many anime deal with the theme of aliens, although there are plenty of yokai themed ones. Combining them is for sure unique, but the executions is as you'd expect as a seasoned anime watcher. The main characters fight
...
different threats, gain mysterious powers, and so far have an awkward time with he opposite sex, not making anything official. When people were talking about this show, I assumed they were a couple, but it just ended up being the standard of them liking each other, but being too shy to do anything about it. Maybe that will change later. The interactions between the characters are entertaining enough. A lot of standard misunderstandings, or not saying what you mean.
In terms of the fights, they are animated very stylistically. It looks good, but in a way that made me think they found ways to do it cost effectively. The content of the fights is standard Shonen fare for the most part. The characters get beat up in ways that should probably kill them, then they think of some plan, or get saved last minute by something to win.
I know I'm sounding kinda down on this anime, but it's just that I was expecting something much more unique and less generic due to all the hype. I for sure enjoyed the anime, and think it's good. I mean, I binged it in a few days, so I for sure liked it. Maybe the next season will step it up a notch. I remember feeling similarly about Jujutsu Kaisen, and season 2 of that show really popped off. I for sure recommend Dandadan, just keep your expectations in check to be able to enjoy it.

You come into this kinda show expecting pretty crazy matches and fighters. It delivers on that front for sure, but it falters on other fronts. While I found the matches entertaining for the most part, it's pretty bogged down with fighting tropes and fight filler/flashbacks. I'm reviewing both parts in one review BTW.
Starting with the characters, I enjoyed them for the most part. You've got a lot of tropes. Stoic protagonist with a troubled past, obsessed rival, mad doctor, and cop obsessed with "justice". There's some interesting stand outs as well though. I'd say for the most part, the characters are interesting enough, and meet
...
the quota for this type of show.
Plot wise it's a ridiculous tournament to facilitate the fighting. They have some side plots going on, but I would say the overall story is secondary to the fights.
So what of the fights? For the most part, they are good. They for sure follow the trope of one character getting beaten to brink of death, only to finially figure out how to win and turn it around. Not all the fights, but a lot of them do follow this formula. It can sometimes be unpredictable who will win though. I would rate them a lot more highly, but in the second half of the show they spend a lot of time on flashbacks during the fights. They are more like moving slideshows actually, since they are animated so little. It could be seen as a stylistic choice, but it's for sure not something I want to see interrupting the fight. Honestly, without those I may have even upped the score a number and be able to fully recommend it.
As it stand though, I enjoyed the show enough and will move on the season 2. If you are wanting more than just ridiculous fights, then you won't get much more here. Also, the flashbacks are quite annoying, so that could ruin it for some.
I give Part 1 a 7, and Part 2 a 6.

This is for sure a trash isekai. You've got an overpowered protagonist who builds up a questionable harem in a generic fantasy world. I should have stopped watching on the second episode the second time he asks the young girl he saved to go take a bath, and he spanks a mage. It's trash, but the plot is entertaining enough to keep you invested. Maybe I was just bored.
I'm trying to think of something it did okay. I guess the characters didn't seem as soulless as some isekai. Maybe a little bit of thought went into their personalities/dialogue. There were a few lines I enjoyed/thought
...
were clever.
Overall a few character designs are pretty egregious in terms of fanservice. They are also always taking a baths, although it didn't seem as focused as the fanservice aspect during those scenes as I thought it might. I am interested in seeing how far this goes. I may watch the next season. My review is basically I shouldn't have even wanted to finish this, but I was entertained enough to, and may even watch the next season.

Well, I'm back after the disaster of season 4. I'm happy to say, it doesn't reach as low as that, but it's still strayed too far from the grandeur of season 1.
As mentioned in my previous reviews, I like this show as a grounded take on adult life and issues. Despite the convoluted way it's achieved, this season has a real strong take on unemployment, homelessness, and the meaning of life/working. I felt myself really thinking about these issues in a serious sense while watching.
The end is really out of the blue though, and brings the vibe way down. Character act in strange ways, and
...
plot points(like attempted murder), are just rushed/brushed off without much thought. Despite the episodes being longer, and the last episode being a full 30mins things felt rushed.
I'm not sure if they ever plan for a season 6. This didn't feel satisfying as a full finale for the series. The first part relating to unemployment was compelling enough I probably still recommend a watch if that sounds interesting.
