This show proves again that source material from a female writer just captures the nuance needed for subject matter like this better. And to give the characters the needed depth. Not to say male writers can't but they do seem to fall short more often then not.
This couple format has been done many times. But this time around the author goes in a different direction that is pretty refreshing. There is a raw and very true vulgarity to this series that I really respect her for talking about. To often the subject matter of these shows gets sanitized.

Is this film as good as Your Name or Weathering With You? Yes and no... It doesn't have the same emotional impact of those two previous films. Its also a visually a more subdued film. Not to say it isn't visually stunning but it is different. Despite its fantastical elements it feels a bit more grounded.
This film is a roundtrip story at its core and he uses this format masterfully. Unlike his previous 2 entries where there was a very powerful twist and ending. This film felt like he was focusing far more on the journey. A lot like Voices from a Distant Star. This ... |
