If you're still curious to have your thread question answered, I'd say it's because a lot of people who aren't anime fans use it in a more bigoted way (the way some other people in your thread were pointing out.)

Sometimes on the internet, I've noticed someone who's clearly an anime fan say they like traps and by that mean what anime fans usually mean, only for some dude who's obviously not an anime fan to go "why do you like tr*nnys?" or something like that. I imagine when trans people run into people saying "trap," it's usually the non-anime fan people. So yeah, those people kinda ruin the word for them.
