Both are centered around romance. Both have a strong, determined main female character and a "perfect" male character that both annoys and protects the female character. Both are cute and funny as well.

Both focus mostly on the bond between friends, although Clannad goes deeper into family bonds as well. Both show the changing and development of people and the importance of encouragement from others. Both also have cute romance mixed in as well, but it isn't the center of the story

Both value development of characters and interactions between characters. Toradora is more centered around romance than Clannad. Both are very cute and had cry moments.
