The key to enjoying Uchi no Ko is to understand the meaning of Uchi no Ko
It means "My Child"
That alone strictly limits its target audience: people who have taken care of children. This is a seinen through and through, regardless of the "young people" setting. Everyone else would probably find this off putting, and may even (wrongfully) brand people who enjoy this a "lolicon" or, even worse, a "pedo"
Uchi no Ko tells a story of a man who adopted a daughter, and this story is meant for parents. Specifically, people who either long for children OR never got to see their children's growth, probably due
...
to working their ass off. You'll find no shortage of people flabbergasted at the idea of focusing on "how cute Latina is", because they couldn't understand the feeling of parents who love their children but don't have a great relationship with them.
If waifus and husbandos are wish fulfillments for the ideal partner, Latina is a wish fulfillment for the ideal child: a smart, well-behaved, obedient, kind hearted child, raised in a good and caring environment with loving friends and neighbors, has great relationship with the extended families, and loves her parent unconditionally. The whole story is following her growth as a child, as if to make up for all those years a parent have to be away from home, waking up while their children were fast asleep and coming back home when their children were exhausted, with no energy to play with them on the weekends.
One might wonder if Dale is acting "unrealistically" with how much he dotes on Latina and how he brags about literally every single thing she did. In actuality he's not all that unrealistic: one of my brother-in-law bragged about my nephew's *birth weight*, another one comes home and immediately rushed to his daughter to snuggle and play with her. The experience of being a parent, or taking care of a child, changes your world view dramatically
Thus, it is impossible to rate Uchi no Ko low, not with the understanding of what it is and who it's for.
-----------------------------------------------------
Having read the light novel, this anime did an amazing job at adapting it. The light novel was especially egregious when depicting Latina's surroundings, and the anime managed to not only cut down the unnecessary paragraphs, but also made her environment much more vivid, especially the Dancing Ocelot regulars - a stand in for the extended family one might have. Various side stories added in later volumes were put in the right episodes chronologically

Overall:
If you like Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lion, this manga evokes that exact feeling and it's really great
Story:
For a manga which title sounds like a stupid one off, this one is actually great.
The isekai trope is used in great effect not to provide stupid exposition or making 4D chess moves, but merely to provide some extra context as to why MC acts the way he does, which is mostly reactionary. The world building is rich without relying on massive expositions like Mahouka, and it's focused more on political relationships than romantic relationships
Befitting a shounen MC, he has OP weapons with Deus
...
Ex Machina that he gets to use when the proverbial excrement makes contact with metaphorical rotating aerial impeller, in turn allowing him to amass wealth which in turn allows him to just pay off whatever and whoever it is he needs to deal with. This is used to great extent to allow the MC to be a fucking asshole. In a way, it's like seeing a cheap chinese copy of Tony Stark and it's actually pretty enjoyable. Let's not pretend we don't like it when fucking Iron Man obliterates his foes with giant laser cannons
I like the fact that romance isn't pursued too hard, there's near complete lack of the MC being dense as the girls blush trying to say the million metaphors for "I love you". No bath peeping episodes, no swimsuit episodes, it's great.
I do however wish that political downfalls are explained better instead of being handled off screen
Art:
Art is amazing although the robot action sequences clearly could benefit from some more experience. Despite the important characters having clearly unique designs, the robots are surprisingly difficult to keep track of and melee combat in particular is hard to even process.
Other than that expressions are well drawn and the mecha designs themselves are actually pretty good
Also, personally the manga drawing is far more pleasant than the anime drawings, it's more shounen like. Technically the anime has more otomege look to it which I suppose is more appropriate for the setting, but it's pretty clear this work wasn't directed to shoujo market in the first place
Character:
First off, the males:
The MC is actually pretty basic "I'm a nobody but mess with my friends and I kill you" person. He's actually more akin to mary sue considering that not only he never fails, he's using 21st century modern philosophy of human rights, clearly meant to mean he's an upstanding person kind of like how Rose in Titanic is shown to be a progressive lady. He's got OP Deus Ex Machina, he knows it, and uses it every time he could to be as big of an asshole as he can be. In a way it's like watching Tatsuya from Mahouka except this time there's no incestuous sister clinging to him and he has more than 2 expressions
The 5 main males are actually well defined with obviously otomege characteristics but they are in fact presented as pretty normal human beings except being hypnotically smitten by the "lead heroine" and physically incapable of looking bad. They're never particularly important and interactions with them involves obviously otomege dialogue but that's part of the charm, a well balanced counter to the MC's douchebaggery so to speak if only to keep the MC from displaying his douchebaggery for a few pages
The heroines are.... well there's the obvious "shy, pure, innocent girl" that is Olivia but Angelica is surprisingly well written for a manga that claims harem tag. Unlike other female characters in other stories where the first time they're seen there's an exposition about how they're good in literally every fucking thing, Angelica is presented simply as a noble trying to look the noble part doing noble things because that's what nobles do, and she struggles with it. The impact of politics where there's no such thing as loyalty is used to great effect and the character grows organically at great pace
Enjoyment:
Just like Tatsuya and Mahouka, part of the enjoyment is watching the MC obliterating everything that comes his way with barely any effort whatsoever. The other part is watching the political intrigues, shallow as it may be, and the world building surrounding them. There's actually no 4D chess going on, the political intrigues are mostly shown on screen and for a silly harem mecha manga it's good to not have to wrinkle the brain trying to read between the lines

Overall:
Tonikawa is a rare type of anime: the educational kind. Set aside the ridiculous circumstances and characters for a moment because this one is not about all the hijinks and shenanigans of getting that girl, but about the question after he did: "now what?"
and it's worth watching
Story:
I think it's fair to say that "the protagonists saw each other and get immediately gets married" within the first 5 minutes is pretty stupid as far as a background plot goes but it does put aside the whole chase and it's good.
Plenty of anime romance is set in impossible circumstances: where money is no object, laws are for
...
the ugly, parents don't exist, and the student council is above the Emperor himself. That's all fine and dandy but after you reach the goal and marry your protagonist, then what?
While the backstory is ridiculous, the struggles depicted inside are not. I've personally seen my own friend struggle to shoulder the burden of his own marriage: his apartment is no longer adequate, he needs a bigger one; his single bed is no longer sufficient, he needs a bigger one (it took us an entire day to find one because his wife kept changing the requirements); his salary is no longer sufficient and he needs a raise; he needs more kitchen utensils; he needs to deal with paperwork to get a mortgage; he needs to figure out the wedding rings; he needs to figure out the wedding ceremony; he needs to file the paperwork to register their marriage; he needs to check out properties in the area
Those are things worth talking about, they're part of familial struggles, and they're actually very relatable
Art:
I think it's fair to say that the art looks good but nothing more can be said
Sound:
Regretfully, there's nothing memorable about the sound department
Character:
As far as characters go, they're actually pretty bland, and while I can't complain about it I can't praise it either.
Enjoyment:
Watching the struggles they have about managing their new family is actually very refreshing and enjoyable

Overall:
This anime is the reason your parents never approved of your hobby, but as far as hobby goes if you like to see pretty things you're going to see pretty things
Story:
The story is... all over the place. It ramps up okay at first and I thought this is 1:1 story, but halfway through they put in a harem. I mean, what?
It also relies too much on the protagonist being a virgin that gets aroused every time the girl shows skin, it got to the point of it being pretty much the only source of comedy
Art:
The character drawings are great and I enjoy seeing them, I
...
can't say too much more about it because honestly as great as they are in the moment they're actually not too memorable.
They also put way too much budget on the ecchi shots, there's plenty of those
Sound:
Well the ED is great but that's kind of it.
Character:
The characters are.... well they're all over the place. For the first half they're well established enough but suddenly they put more where they really shouldn't, and characters don't progress as quickly as I had hoped. Romantic interests were established pretty early on but after that no character development happens and it really sucks
Enjoyment:
It's actually pretty enjoyable if you don't think too much about the character development, I like expositions and the various explanations regarding color choices, materials, and whatnot are great.

Overall:
Seitokai Yakuindomo is an anime that is not only amazing the first time, but also worth rewatching as you gain more knowledge and context for its jokes, making them even funnier than before. If you just want to relax and have fun without thinking too much, this is it
Story:
Seitokai Yakuindomo relies entirely on sex jokes. The whole damn thing is just sex jokes, and if there are some innocent times they're nothing but a setup for sex jokes. Despite this the anime doesn't even rely on fanservice to deliver them, using nothing but various features of Japanese language and culture to setup wordplays and possible
...
misunderstandings
For those who don't really understand Japanese, quite a few of the jokes are more easily understood, but if you learn the language you'll catch on quite a few more, and more, and more. You can rewatch Seitokai Yakuindomo just for shits and giggles and figured out the jokes you didn't quite catch, it's hilarious
Seitokai Yakuindomo also doesn't have any drama whatsoever. There's literally none of those. Nothing at all. The whole thing is just jokes, and more jokes, and more jokes.
Finally, SYD isn't a derivative work. There are no references to get, there are no cross over characters, it's a work that can be fully appreciated simply by itself, unlike say Carnival Phantasm
Art:
The art is on the simpler side but works amazingly to capture that 4koma comedic style. It goes to show that more detail does not equal better, this anime would've been way worse if it got any more detailed
Sound:
Each and every single voice fits their character perfectly, the OP is great, the BGM are also great. There are actually not that many BGM, you can hear them using the same BGM all the time but it works with the situation for some reason, probably because I'm laughing too hard to complain
Character:
The characters are simple and they simply don't change the entire time. Each and every single character is the same from start to finish, but that's why I like them. For a comedic slice of life it's perfect.
Enjoyment:
Watching SYD is pure joy, there's nothing else to describe it. The jokes are witty, plenty are understandable simply because they're visual misunderstandings, they also never drag on: responses are quick and characters move on almost immediately. What time you have to appreciate the joke is from the characters slowly talking. There's no exposition, just pure fun

Overall:
Mahouka is a piece of work that only works when you don't mind it's GIANT problems. I'm one of those people.
There are 3 major problems with Mahouka:
1. A lot of exposition
2. Single dimensional boring protagonist
3. Inexplicable incest
if you have no problem with ALL of them, Mahouka is gonna be one of your top 10 of all time
...
Story:
Mahouka actually has lore and world building in it, and it's actually great, the problem is that narrating them takes a lot of time. The exposition with magic is amazing for the more scientifically inclined because magic usually gets handwaved in many other works, but for others those things really only get in the way.
There's also the problem with MC being an OP person. They practically invent new Deus Ex Machina just to let him win, and excused it as "he can do it all this time, he just didn't want to" normally reserved for villains which probably says something. The worst part is plenty of it don't get used again later on, invented specifically just to tackle this specific problem.
Art:
The art is great, characters are drawn pretty simple but very identifiable. Spellcasting animations are also pleasing to the eyes
Sound:
Mahouka has a lot of good BGM, especially during the sports festival. It works well with the action on screen, and the sound effects are also fantastic. The VAs also did a great job with Hayami Saori bringing the "cool and composed" character to life, although I do wonder if she cringed when reading the script, which brings us to
Character:
The 2 main protagonists are basically an otaku wet dream given form:
The guy is quite literally an antisocial person incapable of emotions, yet a computer genius and knows ninjutsu, complete with having a locked superpowers that can only be unlocked after sensei lets him go all out, just this once. Coincidentally the only emotion he has left would be his incestuous feelings
The girl is a yamato nadeshiko that is not only physically gorgeous, smart, has OP magic powers, and yet loves him unconditionally no matter what. Also comes with the standard fare "everyone looks at her the moment she enters the room" moments in almost every episode
and just like them, everyone else gets a single superficial personality: there's the tank, the support mage, the katana girl, rich girl, badass leader, and various girls whose main job seems to be blushing.
But fuck that noise because Mahouka knows the protagonists are OP and instead of trying to dial them back to be "kinda normal" with various limitations, it ran with it and made them even more OP in every single episode. If you like OP characters, everyone here is up your alley
Enjoyment:
If you like watching things getting obliterated and absolutely support the Orks for always wanting more dakka, this is the anime for you. They invent new stuff each episode just to show how OP the protagonists are, the action sequences are satisfying with great BGM to match. The magical explanation expositions are fantastic and while it requires launching disbelief into space, they're all pretty consistent.
Although they really could tone down the incest fanservice

6 Episodes so far
This is a pretty basic harem rom com and I don't think it's a bad thing. After all, a genre is popular because it's, well, popular and that means it's enjoyed by the masses. I certainly am part of the masses
Story:
While the whole "real family" thing is the basis, it gets forgotten fairly quickly and the whole thing devolves into as I said basic harem rom com and I really wish it didn't because the premise is actually great, here's hoping it'll gain more importance later but so far nothing noteworthy
Art:
Art is great, everything is colorful except the guy. I kinda wish
...
they'd portray him differently because insofar as story goes, he's not incompetent and while the girls get a lot of details, the guy is sort of.... there. Like, yeah there exists a humanoid with black hair, 2 eyes, a nose, a mouth, arms, legs, covered in clothing. Seeing him is super boring, and considering how many generic harem protagonists there are, that's saying something
Sound:
The VAs do a good job, the BGM is... okay? Not everyone gets to have banger BGM every episode like Kaguya sama but once you've experienced it, anything short feels..... short. Sound effects are not over the top but there's nothing memorable in here. OP is good but again nothing memorable
Character:
Characters are well defined and don't seem TOO outlandish. For some reason the "popular but no friends" trope is used too much and I don't like it but the characters themselves behave quite normally.
One thing I enjoy is that this time around the guy is capable of processing social cues, unlike many other protagonists who can't identify social cues if they're dancing naked right in front of him
Enjoyment:
The art is great and that helps a lot with enjoyment. Each story doesn't progress too fast but not too slow either, plenty of time to understand what's going on but things don't drag on. I think that's far more important than great characters because generic tropes with good pacing is better than uniques with shitty pacing.
Overall:
So far so good. It doesn't have anything too exciting but interesting enough that I wanna know what's next.

This manga has good premise: seemingly useless power that turns out to have useful applications, and it's a real shame that it's bogged down by ecchi because the action parts are surprisingly pleasant to read.
Story:
Story is pretty generic "turns out this useless guy is a genius after all" harem storyline so not much can be expected. The pacing is all over the place and the story suffers a lot from it, especially because by rule of cool the enemies have to be stronger than the previous and beating them too quickly will cause power creep to go out of control, exactly what happened here.
Art:
Art
...
is actually pretty nice and enjoyable, the spells are well detailed. Not much more can be said about it
Character:
As far as characters go, the protagonist is a pretty basic "I didn't mean it, honest!" a harem protagonist usually is, the girls are also very predictable and all relationships get speedrun, but surprisingly normally act more like a colleague would and strike a nice balance between "capable" and "not OP". Unfortunately that's not enough to put this above the pack, the fact that the manga gets canceled pretty early on means there's not enough time to get a proper background on them, not that it'd help make them less than a trope
Enjoyment:
Surprisingly enjoyable, especially during action sequences. It helps that the main character isn't actually totally worthless, only his magic is.
Overall:
The manga is actually pretty interesting but either due to cancellation or due to writing issues the pacing is all over the place and there's not enough time to appreciate the current adversary. It feels like they timeskip multiple times despite that not canonically happening, and the ecchi sequences are a bit too forced

Carnival Phantasm is put simply the definition of perfection
A lot of people think of anime as art, and what is art if not for enjoyment? How you enjoy it depends, but Carnival Phantasm is what makes anime art: not by discussing some heavy topics, or by revolutionizing the industry, but by evoking pure and simple joy in each and every episode
The whole thing revolves around taking everything you know about Type Moon's works and mash them together in comedic situations, taking into account each character's quirks and creating gags out of them. While it's fun in its own right, fans of Type Moon's works will
...
be provided with overloading amounts of fanservice - no not the "scantily clad women" type, but references to many of Type Moon's works which will provide additional context and as such multiply the enjoyment. This is fanservice done right
The opening is also amazing on its own, evoking pure, childlike joy. When you watch Carnival Phantasm, you're presented with nothing but fun. There's no deeper meaning, there's nothing to read between the lines, just pure fun. I can't think of any other show that can do that

I've seen literal hentai doujins with better story than this.... thing
The best way to describe the story is that in a bar somewhere, somebody challenged anyone to come up with a way to make the generic "pathetic boy lands a gal way above his grade" trope even worse and a particularly talentless dude exclaimed "hold my beer"
The thing about slice of life is that while they may not have an overarching plot to defeat the evil bad guy they still have conflicts, doesn't have to be big, doesn't have to be dramatic, doesn't have to be serious, just needs to be interesting. The only conflict
...
that exists in Shikimori is the pathetic boy has Final Destination shit luck: in every single step he has misfortune like his accessories breaking or things try to kill him. Shikimori is his awesome perfect bodyguard and the whole story is just Shikimori doing feats of awesomeness to keep him alive, and you're reminded every single time of how awesome she is
Even the most pathetic of shounen protagonists have *something* going for them: maybe they have a hidden talent, maybe there's an explanation why they have such shit luck, maybe they try to do their best in the face of misfortune. In Shikimori the boy has no such thing: there's no explanation for his shit luck, his feeble attempts to work with his luck is half hearted and basically just a gag to give Shikimori an excuse to show how amazing she is, their entire relationship is the boy praising her gal and the gal blushing merely by looking at him. Even for a "pathetic guy lands amazing gal" standard this is going way too far
and there's nothing else going on: the side characters are all forgettable, and all the sidestories have nothing other than a chance for Shikimori to show how awesome she is and how little effort she has to put in doing so. For god's sake Doraemon has more slice of life quality than this... this... thing, Doraemon's conflicts are all very much relatable
