Serial Experiments Lain
(-some thoughts and a very short interpretation of what is "Serial Experiments Lain" for me (without spoilers) and serial psychological and/or philosophical words I want to share with you; for a more complex review about SEL please look further in the Wired, Realworld and please look in yourself (I'm no expert in how to open people, if you aren't too then only ask yourself) )
An experiment is mainly to gain knowledge from observation and/or experience.
To me the title says this anime is in some way a series about this experiments process. A series based on observation and experience. A series to

gain knowledge or maybe something else we don't know yet. But the most important fact is "Lain". What is Lain? Maybe who is Lain? We can't know if we don't observe Lain, if we don't experience Lain's actions, reactions, facial expressions, emotions, words Lain is telling, just all Lain experience and all Lain is doing to let us experience.
I just said it "Lain is experiencing". So Lain has to be a living object, don't you agree? Is Lain human? What is Lain's identity? That we have to find out for ourselves. And in the end we come up with a personal interpretation of the results we observed and experienced. But I can tell this empirical research is a psychological one. It is a research of not only one result or rather one truth. A research of the truth which is maybe important for ourselves, for our life. A truth that has to be different to other's research's results, conclusions and their own truth. Our truth or conclusion may be even false in the end. But that isn't important. Important is to make an own conclusion especially for ourselves. Important is the process we have to go, the process we have to experience, the process we maybe can learn from, we maybe can make memories and/or emotions from, a process of experiment with ourselves. Learn from and for ourselves. Observe ourselves. Experience ourselves.
Serial Experiments Lain is an experience of existentialism moreover an exploration of life, our own life and how it is rooted. What really is the anchor of our life? Has everyone a different one? Is it the connections we make? Is it made up of energy or matter, of memories or the marks we leave? Maybe it doesn't matter how the anchor of anyone looks like. Maybe it only matters everyone has one. And that this anchor is there to be a part of life and even if you die, you had an identity, had even a life and you can die with knowing your life was limited, was special. Maybe there is something after the death that is important for you too. Important just like your living experiences.
But even only the fact that you are reading this or maybe wanting to watch Serial Experiments Lain or already watched it, maybe arguing it with me after is my result, my conclusion, my own truth, my way of understanding and connecting to you. My serial experiments on you and particularly on me. Something I experienced intensely first while watching and hearing to "Serial Experiments Lain". So maybe you want to try out "Serial Experiments Lain" even if it would be a rewatch to be more connected to Lain and especially to yourself even more .. intensely and entirely... A connection of connections of life of death of others of yourself. Who I am? A summary of mixed up connections, moments, emotions, thoughts, the known as the unknown? I don't know who I am but I'm not empty, my world is not empty, and even if I'll be empty I wasn't and so I am because I was because I connected to others, to me, to life and more...
Serial Experiments Lain - a little but intensive visual, acoustic study and experience of life's cruelty and beauty, the harmony and disharmony of existentialism and identity, the moments of emotional eruptions and lethargic inactivity, the consequences of decisions and how to make them, social conditions and their borders, the creation of connections and many ways to lose them, the world, the many who lives in it, the you and the me and the question "Who I Am?" with answers if you ask yourself.
There are no words to describe or interpret "Serial Experiments Lain" in its entirety. I just can say that "Serial Experiments Lain" is an experience that has to be experienced by yourself, your intimate journey that will never end...
