To the Forest of the Fireflies' Light (Hotarubi no Mori e)
This is my first review so bear with me >.<
Hotarubi no Mori e tells the tale of a Hotaru who gets lost in the forest of spirits one summer day when she is six. There, just as she loses all hope, Gin, a spirit of the forest who appears to be a normal boy, appears from behind the trees to her and shows her the way out. This 44-minute short movie is heartbreaking as it tells about a lasting bond of friendship between the two who come from different worlds.
~Story - 10~
The story is gripping

as it holds the nostalgic feeling of childhood and all the fun that comes with it. High praise for the author as the film takes us through a (around) ten year period of friendship between Gin and Hotaru from when she is six to when she's in the midst of highschool. The last ten minutes left me crying like a baby, and even now rewatching this film is heartbreaking.
~Art - 8~
The art is very nicely done in this film as the scenery and how the sunset looks in some scenes is breathtaking. Though it can't compare to films like Garden of Words or 5 Centimeters per second, it is very very well done.
~Sound - 8~
I don't quite remember any songs being played in this film, but the background sounds really fit each scene as they should.
~Character - 10~
Both Gin and Hotaru are my babies, I love them so much. Though we aren't able to see their full personalities like we would for a 24-episode series, they are both sweethearts. They both left an indent in my heart as we practically watched them (more like Hotaru) age ten years. TEN YEARS! Anyways, the characters were so beautiful I love it so freaking much.
~Enjoyment - 10~
There was never a second I didn't enjoy this movie. Even now, a few years after I first watched it, this film still appears in my "need to watch" box.
~Overall - 100000000~
How can you not love this film. Never feel embarrassed to cry as this has the happy/sad feeling much like Your Lie in April. The AMV for this film, "King Again" is something to definitely check out after this.
