With reservation for that I felt my Japanese ability fell a bit short here, although the dialogue is quite sparse on the whole.
So for me this was more about the feel, rather than the story. As others have pointed out it may have benefitted from being an anime series as opposed to a feature film, with regard to world building and character development. That is not to say that it isn't enjoyable, on the contrary. The action, art and soundtrack is quite frantic and over the top which, being a big fan of Kill la Kill and Gurren Lagann, is right to my taste.
