I'd have to give this manga a perfect ten! It is surely a MUST-READ! :D
It has been an amazing experience reading this manga. Lovely Complex keeps you wanting more and more of Otani and Koizumi's romance~! They may not be the "perfect" couple because of the height difference but it just goes to show that love isn't all about physical appearances and that is one good point that this manga has emphasized brilliantly. :)
To make my point clear here's a very in-depth review, which you shouldn't really read if you haven't finished reading the manga since it MAY contain SPOILERS:
STORY: 10/10
Well, since I am a
...
pretty tall girl, I could easily relate to Risa's point of view and that's what I really like about this manga. The "realism" it portrays is very enjoyable and the kind of relationship Risa and Otani develops in the manga was just so awe-inspiring. :)
The story starts with them not really getting along but because of people they like, they "join forces" and "help" each other with their love lives. But then, the people they were trying to get, fall in love with each other. I believe that was the turning point to their relationship. Their weird rivalry-like friendship never ceases to amuse me and their tandem is very funny. They truly deserve the title "All Hanshin-Kyojin".
And besides, I am a sucker for happy endings so I was just so thrilled with the results of the hard work Risa put in for Otani. :) The story was truly magnificent!
ART: 10/10
I am very particular with the art (not because I am a good artist but because I have no talent on it whatsoever yet I want to see what's pleasing to the eyes) and I can't say the art of Lovely Complex had the best art I've ever seen, it's actually just so-so. It wasn't bad. . . . but it just wasn't outstanding. Although. . . . I really found Otani to be a cool guy (especially during those serious moments), Kohori to be simply adorable and Maity & Haruka to be HOT. :D So, I still gave two thumbs up for the art!
CHARACTER: 10/10
No complaints here. There was variety in the characters in LC. From stupid couples (*ahem*Risa&Otani*ahem*) to overwhelmingly HOT English teachers and obsessive childhood friends. I enjoyed every character in the series. Enough said. :)
ENJOYMENT: 10/10
So during the time I was reading LC, i was SUPPOSED to be doing a lot of stuff for school but I just couldn't leave it alone till I finish it. And even after reading it, I still daydream of the couple's lovey-dovey moments in my head. So that should be enough of a explanation for how much I enjoyed it. xD
OVERALL: 10/10
It was great! If you want a story that blends comedy and romance quite nicely, this is a manga that will not disappoint. :D

Well, at first I was kind of confused about the point of view. I didn't know what to expect from the manga. I actually thought the bird would fall in love with the girl. And that was quite. . . .disturbing. So when I realized that he was just telling the love story of the girl, I was relieved and at the same time very amused. Kayana's love story was rather cute. Even though she was the complete opposite of Aise and people think they don't suit each other, they fell in love! The story plot was rather cliche but told from Sendrick's/Chunta's point of
...
view, it became original. It was nice that Kayana was able to change Sendrick's view of humans and I loved the treasure he gave her.
It was a very short but touching story of friendship and love. If you're interested in something a little different from the norm, this is a one-shot worth reading! :D

My rating for this compilation of one-shots vary because there was one I really enjoyed and there was one that I thought "What the hell?". The best story, in my opinion was the fourth - Uso to Koi no Hajimari. And I really dislike (despite the very handsome guy there) the 3rd story - Atashi no Mannaka. The others didn't really strike me as "awesome" or "brilliant" but they were at least pleasant.
Here's a one-by-one breakdown of the 5 stories:
Story 1 - "Real Kiss": 7/10
Well, I really found Fujikawa to be so sweet. And Haruna a very strong female lead. Her ex-boyfriend was a total
...
jerk though but the story wouldn't be so complete without him so he was tolerable. The plot was quick-paced (as you'd expect from a one-shot) but really cute, nonetheless. My second favorite one-shot in the compilation, I guess.
Story 2 - "Body Talk": 6/10
While I found the "I fell in love with your body" to be albeit disgusting, this wasn't so bad. It was a refreshing twist for the girl to be inexperienced yet so perverse at the same time. Shingo was an eye-catcher too (despite what I said before) but his rather conservative nature till his "switch" was turned was funny. Though, I still can't really stand smutty scenes.
Story 3 - "Atashi no Mannaka": 3/10
The lead character was a [censored] and I really felt sorry for her REAL boyfriend. She was such a slut. The plot line was just so. . . .vile. Just because the (hot) son of the principal gives a new and maybe enjoyable meaning to "punishment", it was a really mean thing to hurt her boyfriend like that. Even if they DID love each other, stepping on another person's feelings was bad. The only positive thing I can say about it was that the art was amazing.
Story 4 - "Uso to Koi no Hajimari": 10/10
Akane and Ken resemble the main characters of the mangaka's other work "Boku ni Natta Watashi"! I don't really mind that. I actually found quite nostalgic to see "Itou" and "Momoko" in action again (though with a different story). Anyway, the art for the manga was very beautiful and the plot was simply lovely. This one is one I highly recommended. This is probably my most favorite one-shot ever.
Story 5 - "Ah! Itoshi no Caramel Boy": 6/10
The story was nice. The characters were okay. Basically this story was just average. Nothing special but not really bad either. I was just surprised at that last part. I was never expecting that kind of thing and I don't really like smutty scenes but if you're someone who enjoys that stuff, this would probably be to your liking.
Story 6 - "Renai Sensou": 6/10
Some people like this (as far as i could tell from the forums at MangaFox) but it was just so-so for me. Sure, it was kind of funny. I liked the guy, who despite his flirtatious nature loves his girlfriend more than the others. It was sweet that he may be easily swayed by the girls who flirt with him but at the and of the day he only chases after one girl. I just found the girl to be rather stupid, I mean, who would forget their. . . .well, it's up to you to find out what she forgot; it'll spoil a probably comical relief to the story if I revealed [that].
Overall: 7/10
Well, aside from one that I really LOVED and the one I really HATED, this compilation is actually a good choice. If you're bored and/or desperate for something to read. Hope this helped.

This is a short but sweet story! I really enjoyed reading it. Chio-kun is so cute and also Tsubame-chan! I love the way the mangaka drew them - very detailed and beautiful! The story was also brilliantly written. Tsubame and Chio are a perfect match! :D I loved it so much!
If you're looking for a short yet heart-warming love story then Cocoa! is one of the perfect mangas to read!

Well, honestly, at first, I became really irritated with the story. It was so complicated that I didn't know what I was reading most of the time. When I reached the 15th chapter I almost decided to just drop reading the manga and start on another. But, my curiosity would not hear of it. The manga's plot gave me a lot to ponder that it urged me to go back to reading it in less than a day after I opted to quit.
So, I finally finished all 47 chapters plus the extra chapter and I am very happy to say that I LOVED it.

SPOILERS]
STORY: 10/10
Despite what I'd said about getting confused so much that I decided to quit on the series, the complication of it all just picked at my curiosity so that's basically why i loved the story line. There were a lot of twists I really enjoyed. It was definitely a page-turner and each chapter leaves you wanting to read the next. The ending was rather amusing though somewhat predictable. Nevertheless, I think it was brilliantly done.
ART: 10/10
Not much to say about the art besides the fact that it was phenomenal! All characters were so intricately done. I just love Haine and the Togou (I can't quite spell their last name right, oh well) Twins. I also was impressed with the amazing detail the author did with it. Very lovely.
CHARACTER: 8/10
Well, as much as I loved everyone, I get easily confused. Sometimes they just look so alike. I often mistook Ushio for Haine (and vice versa) when the latter's hair was long (after she cut it I mistook her for Maora, instead). But that's just minor. Anyway, I don't know if I liked the fact that Maora was actually a boy but it was sweet that he tried looking like a girl for Maguri's sake. It was just very surprising. Another thing I didn't think I liked was the portrayal of Shizumasa as the "evil" twin. I hated him at first and at the same time pitied him for his condition. I was glad that he was good deep inside all along. He also loved his brother as he loves Haine. And must Haine be so. . . .I'm not sure if stupid or ignorant would fit her better. That may be one of her quirks but sometimes I think it's overly exaggerated? I don't know. It was all just pleasant.
ENJOYMENT: 10/10
You may think I'm very shallow and/or crazy but I actually wanted to cry at some emotional climaxes in the story. Everything asked for in a romance story can be found in this masterpiece. I love all the drama and fluff moments very much so there's not much to say! Bravo!
OVERALL: 10/10
Apparently, the thing about the characters doesn't affect my overall rating for this manga. I just really loved it. Of course, nothing (and no one's) ever perfect so that's just normal. In the end, this is a manga I highly recommend for people who are a sucker for romance who wants something. . . .slightly unique and heart-touching. Gah! But I do wish I can have Shizumasa-sama now (since Haine already has Takanari). Anyways, I think that's all I can say. :D

This is going to be the first review I'll be giving. . . .so I don't really know if this would be helpful or not. :) Anyway, Special A is a brilliant masterpiece, in my opinion. I usually prefer the anime over the manga version (I wasn't so good at reading manga before, I just couldn't get used to reading right to left - it confused me!) but I am pleased to say that this particular manga bested its anime version. There are a couple of reasons I can give to explain myself. . . .
To summarize everything up before you get bored of the
...
long explanation coming up next: if you liked the anime version, you'll LOVE the manga even MORE! Proceed if you really want to waste minutes of your life to know what's on my crazy little mind.
First, the manga was actually better drawn than the anime. The characters are so unbelievably skinny in the anime (I think) and Kei didn't look as handsome as he was in the manga. For me it was unfair that I found Ryuu, Jun and even Yahiro more appealing than the lead guy (in the anime), of course in the manga Kei was putting up a better fight. :D
Second, the scenes from the manga were WAY better than what happened in the anime. It will make hopeless romantics like I am itching to read the next chapter without pause. Character developments were pretty good in the manga too.
Third, the ending of the anime left something to be desired and was albeit so WEIRD too. I mean, Kei and Hikari were flying then! I know they were inhuman from the start but flying was just so unrealistic I really had to just laugh it off. But in fairness to the anime, the manga's end was so anticlimactic and a disappointment to me. It was like the end was hastened and didn't quite have a romantic feel (though what Kei did for Hikari was VERY romantic). XD
Fourth (I know this turned out to be a long list), I really hope there's a season 2 for the anime 'cause the manga continues on very well from where the anime ended (which was the main reason for me to read the manga in the first place; I wanted more from Special A). If not, the manga is DEFINITELY better.
Lastly (No, I'm not quite finished yet), the manga didn't just concentrate on the two leads' romance. It also had the romance of the other characters inserted which made the story better. In the anime, only Ryuu didn't get a happily ever after (each member of the SA found their soul mates [even the twins and Tadashi]). I really felt sorry for him there,so at least, in the manga, he even had two girls falling for him. :D That isn't necessarily a very important point to go into but it just means that the story in the manga was nicer than the anime.
