Haikyuu is easily my favorite sports anime to date (22/04-17)
It's has all the excitement of a good shounen sport (like kuroko for ex)
But it has none of the complete disregard for human/physical limits that we see so often in shounen anime.
The characters and their ability's are very down to earth in comparison and even if they are still way to good to be highschooler's it still never feels over the top in any way. They characters also have very real and also character defining flaws that they of course, have to overcome.
The animation in the show is solid. The Openings are beautifully
...
animated most of the time, and the soundtrack is good all the way through. No awkward downspikes in animation quality that sometimes happen in some shows.
They do use some stills here and there with motionlines instead of actual motion. This is most likely only the animators saving times on less important scenes, and i really dont blame them. The instead put their effort where it count's, and that makes me happy.
I like the voice acting too, the performances are consistent through-out the cast and no one ever feels forced or out of place. The music/voice and other noise is very well equalized and what needs to be in the forefront is, at all times.
If I had to nitpick on something is that the matches can somtimes be a little unevenly paced. Some parts of the matches are so detailed and take up ALOT of the air-time while sometimes we get kinda anti-climactic timeskips. Though this isn't a problem with Haikyuu specifically, but with sports-anime in general.
Overall this is a top-notch shounen sports, and if you like the genre, this is a must watch!
