Story 7/10
Synopsis :
"Music accompanies the path of the human metronome, the prodigious pianist Kousei Arima. But after the passing of his mother, Saki Arima, Kousei falls into a downward spiral, rendering him unable to hear the sound of his own piano.
Two years later, Kousei still avoids the piano, leaving behind his admirers and rivals, and lives a colorless life alongside his friends Tsubaki Sawabe and Ryouta Watari. However, everything changes when he meets a beautiful violinist, Kaori Miyazono, who stirs up his world and sets him on a journey to face music again."

I personally think that the story is unique in its own aspect yet I have this feeling that something is missing, a small detail that could've made it more sincere and better. The romance element of the plot was executed decently, but without the music, it would have never been the same. One good thing is that it didn't follow a Cliché the masses would have loved.
Music 10/10
This might sound biased due to my love of classical music, but this anime's soundtrack oozes emotion. Try listening to "Uso to Honto" and "Spring's Melody". Tell me that isn't emotional, I dare you. colonthree emoticon The soundtrack was executed perfectly, it matched the pace of the series so well, it makes the story even more emotional than ever. Sad yet happy. The ambient BGM fits the slow pace of the anime decently. I myself have been listening to atleast 30 minutes of its soundtrack daily. It makes me remember this masterpiece so much, I end up crying at some point.
Animation/Art 8.5/10
I have to say, the animation is very balanced to the tone of the show. They didn't laze around with the animation except the obvious CGI hands during piano performances. Everything was detailed beforehand, the cherry blossom petals fluttering through the air, the train that they would pass by everyday, the ambient feeling of midnight, the captivating view of the night sky filled with stars, it was all animated with so much attention to detail.
They gave alot of attention to character animation too, you can see right through the feelings of one character so well at first glance. From the slowly brightening face of Kosei to the slow fading of Kaori's expression throughout the series was animated quite nicely. Background wise, some scenes were a tad bit to bright for my taste but I guess it was to distract the watcher from the tragic side of the show.
Enjoyment 9/10
I enjoyed the shifting of tones throughout the show but the ending broke me into a million pieces. As tragic as it was, I was not able to sleep the night I watched the last episode. I was mostly crying that night. Up until now, that void in my heart hasn't been filled.
Characters 8/10
I love how the character development between Kousei and Kaori progressed in each episode. Kousei starts as the depressed, traumatized guy with no plans for the future due to the death of his mother and he slowly becomes something more than that. Kaori on the other hand was the optimistic, bright, creative, unique and beautiful girl in the first half. But slowly and surely, you begin to realize how much of a tragedy her life is compared to Kousei. The romantic tension between the two kept me even more interested in the show. They put out alot of backstory to each character on how they met Kousei and their relationship with him. Almost every character has their own unique personality and are pretty likeable. Their childhood scenes were so cute and captivating, makes me reminisce my times as a kid.
"Before I knew it, against a screen of bright red clouds, I hear the refrain against the black curtain of my closed eyes. Over and over. Again and again. And every time in my heart I don't want to hear it again. One more time. I want to see her, yet I don't want to see her..... This kind of feeling, what was it called again? What do you call this kind of feeling again? "
- Kousei Arima
Overall 8.5/10
This anime will always have a special place in my heart. Even though it tore my heart right out of my chest so badly. I recommend everybody that loves classical music and melodrama to watch this. I made this review to shake off some of my thoughts about this anime. Hopefully i can move on hahaha :))
