This series just fundamentally fails to understand how suspense works. The main characters are incompetent, and either cause problems for themselves through their own idiocy, or just enter scenarios where you, the viewer, immediately know what's going to happen long before it does. This series equates misery to suspense, and just ends up being unpleasant and annoying.

It also feels like this series is, in a weird way, expecting you to want to see everyone suffer. From the editing, to the ultra-telegraphed "twists" to the bulk of the season just being joyless failure, I have to ask what a fan of this show even gets ... out of most episodes. It is a legitimately grueling viewing experience which doesn't feel like it's trying to be fun, or even tense. Again, this is not truly a psychological thriller because you know what's going to happen. The editing, writing, and weapons grade foreshadowing spell out every bad thing that happens long before it does, *promising you* the nasty turn of events that's going to happen and then just reveling in it once it happens. It lacks the basic sense of mystery to actually make the story suspenseful. Instead it's just a long string of infuriating events which never actually gets entertaining.

Hard to describe my feelings about this movie. It kind of fails its basic concept by just not having a lot of actual fights between characters from the games, and when they do come they're so one-sided it's not even all that entertaining. That being said, from a narrative standpoint there is some interesting character development, and a few genuinely really great moments. Still, that all feels overshadowed by the film's rushed ending, which feels like it glosses over the plot it was setting up.
I think this movie was kind of doomed from the start with its small budget and runtime. The filmmakers didn't have ... a lot of room to tell a full story of the scope they wanted to, so the end result is a movie which basically has no second act and jumps straight from the end of act 1 to its finale, and also has to sprint past most of the action the games are known for.
I'd say that fans of the franchise could get a kick out of seeing it, but because of its disappointing payoffs and lack of action it doesn't stand up well to re-watches.
