Kimetsu no Yaiba is a mainstream manga, but the execution was rather good and enjoyable. The art style was mostly fine, especially the battle scenes were drawn nicely. Even the comedy parts were fitting most of the time. The story was simple and catching, the plot was interesting with many flashbacks and characters' backstories. They ALL had "oh so touching and tragic" backstories. But still, the manga was lacking in some ways.
I will start with the issue that bothered me the most. I did not find a single likable female character throughout the whole story. Either they were too weak, or had very stereotypical and
...
annoying feminine powers, like love or flowers (unlike men, who had fire or wind - these even sound powerful), or they had your typical "cute and dumb" kind of character, or had a very deep neckline, or they were just nursing and caring for the injured - or a combination of these things. The three girls who were taking care of Tanjiro and his friends multiple times were literally just walking memes, until the almost end of the story, when we finally realised they also have normal faces, like other characters. No strong female character, not even a chance to be at least as good as men. The closest to a good female character was Kanao, but still not good enough.
Secondly, I think that the power levels of the demon slayers were a "tiny" bit off. The weakest hashira was just an angry child, beating around with their lil' fists, compared to the strongest of them. And also, in just two years of time, some rookies were apparently able to surpass some of the hashiras, too - or at least it seemed like that.
Also sometimes at the beginning, I had a feeling that there is something missing, something that later in the anime was finished. Gradually it got better, and I cannot pinpoint the problem very well. It was just that weird feeling that it is not complete and requires more information, more explanation, more of this vague something, to be better.
And in the end, I did not like the ending. Or not the whole ending, to be precise, just what came after the epilogue. The story continues, we all know that, but it was totally unnecessary to make that final chapter. I cannot say much without spoilers, but it just did not feel like a part of the same story, it was not the same story. I was not interested in the continuation of it, it should have just ended at its best and let it be. This ending was like a fake happy alternative ending to the events before as if it wanted to just ruin the fights, the sacrifices it took, and the development of characters.
But even despite these issues, I could enjoy the manga and I think that it is worth the reading.
