I mostly agree with others' opinions. I had similar issues with this anime.

The zoo/pedo jokes in the first few episodes feel odd, even by Japanese standards. Thankfully, they aren’t as frequent later on.

I loved the cultural and religious elements, like the portrayal of the Ainu people, bear worship, Kagura ceremonies, and other traditions. I didn’t expect them to be so interesting, but they really are.

The humor is surprisingly good. While there are a few strange or cringey jokes, there are also genuinely hilarious moments that had me in tears. I especially enjoyed the jokes based on Natsu being a bear, along with some clever meta-anime ... humor—like the moment Machi grabs a table to throw it, and Natsu stops her, saying, “Don’t throw the table like an anime character!” That one had me laughing out loud.

Later on, the show takes a more serious tone, and some parts are almost painful to watch. Machi clearly struggles with social anxiety, bordering on agoraphobia. Unfortunately, her panic attacks are ignored by everyone around her, often played for laughs instead of being taken seriously.

And of course, there’s the ending that left everyone angry — enough the show’s writer probably had to delete his Twitter. No need to say more on that I guess.

All in all, this anime is mostly great and genuinely funny, despite some awkward jokes and some missed opportunities in character development.

Well, I'm not sure what to think about this anime TV series. It's not as bad as I expected, but some things really suck. For example, Sonic himself was a boring character - he doesn't talk much, but when he does, it's nothing important. Besides, how he does thumbs up and blinks with his eye, that was really annoying. Overall he felt shallow and with no personality. Fortunately, the other characters weren't that boring...

What can I say? I think Sonic deserves a better anime with a better story, smarter characters and less artificial reasons for them to do something. Not only "We are good, ... so let's do good things and we evil, so we must to do something very fuc*ing evil..."
