The humor, characters, setting, and plot are practically shared between the two shows. Both are set in high school, feature a romantically clueless MC, make use of classic anime character tropes, and showcase characters the are practically copies of each other. These two shows go hand in hand as two of the funniest high school romantic comedies ever made and their similarity make them perfect for someone who has finished one series and is itching for more of the same humor/characters. The shows are similar enough that if you enjoyed one, you'll definitely enjoy the other, but different enough so that it doesn't feel repetitive or boring.

Both shows employ silly humor and common character tropes, have a healthy cast of both males and females who all have unique personalities and quirks, use love triangles as the main "romantic" comedy, occur in a high school where there appear to be no rules, and feature completely oblivious main characters who are still struggling to figure out this whole "flirting" thing. A lot of character traits transfer over, too. Practically every main character can be found in another main character in School Rumble. Minami is practically reincarnated as Eri, minus the flat chest jokes. So if you just finished Baka and Test and feel like you need something to fill the hole that the ending left, the characters and humor of School Rumble are extremely reminiscent of Baka and Test and makes the perfect next anime to watch. If you plan on watching the dub (which, by the way, is amazingly well done), familiar voices play familiar characters, and the voice acting is just as good (if not better) than Baka and Test's.

Ouran Koukou Host Club

Though the art style is starkly different (probably the hardest part of the transition) they're both absolutely hilarious romcoms which are primarily great because of their lovably, zany characters. If you enjoyed Ouran Host Club and all of its humor but are looking for something geared a little bit more toward males than School Rumble delivers. There isn't much connecting the two shows besides their genres, as most of the characters don't have counterparts. But that's why I think School Rumble is a great show to follow Ouran with, because it offers a new perspective on a high school romance, uses the same general slice of life format and comedy. If you enjoyed Ouran for it's lovable characters and crazy humor, than you'll love School Rumble all the same, while still getting a taste of something new.
