WITNESS THE REBUILD OF A LEGEND.
Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone (2007), directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki, Masayuki, and Hideaki Anno, is the first installment in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy, which adapts the Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) anime series. The story still focuses on Shinji Ikari, a teenager summoned to Tokyo-3 by his father, Gendo Ikari, to pilot Evangelion Unit-01, a giant mecha created to fight mysterious beings called Angels. Under the guidance of Misato Katsuragi and Ritsuko Akagi, Shinji must deal with immense psychological pressure and complex relationships with fellow pilot Rei Ayanami. As the battles against the Angels become more intense, he begins
...
to question his own existence and role in this chaotic world.
It’s been so long since I last watched Neon Genesis Evangelion, probably around seven years ago. Honestly, Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy feels like a reminder to me, how masterpiece Neon Genesis Evangelion is. Back then, I didn’t really grasp Shinji Ikari’s suffering, but now I can relate to him more. Just imagine, this kid starved for attention from his father, ends up risking his life piloting Evangelion Unit-01. At first, he cries and refuses, but in the end, he gives in, just to be acknowledged. Over time, the weight on his shoulders grows heavier. I just realized how much of a people pleaser Shinji is, struggling to say no even when it causes him pain. It’s sad to watch, but at the same time, it makes his character feel relate to someone (gw sih enggak wkaoawokaowk).
Visually, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone is far better than the original series. Which makes sense, considering there’s a 12 year gap between 1995 to 2007. In that time, the anime industry evolved drastically during that period, and animation quality improved significantly. I’m sure the animation and storytelling will continue to get even better as the tetralogy progresses. Now, I just need to find the time to continue with Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance (2009) and see how the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy brings a new interpretation to this classic story.

Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia (2019), adapted from the seventh chapter of the Fate/Grand Order game. Set in 2655 BC in Mesopotamia, the story follows Ritsuka Fujimaru and Mash Kyrielight as they are sent to the seventh Singularity to fix a temporal distortion threatening humanity’s existence. There, they discover that the city of Uruk, led by King Gilgamesh, is under the threat of an alliance of three goddesses and attacks from demonic beasts. Alongside legendary Servants and deities, Ritsuka and Mash fight to protect human civilization from annihilation.
After a long time, I finally found an anime series that pretty good. Visually stunning, with animation
...
and art style that are an absolute feast for my eyes. But what impressed me the most was the sound design and sound effects, which were ABSOLUTE BANGER. Every time the Servants unleashed their Noble Phantasm, the impact was incredible. It was so good that I switched from watching with TWS earbuds to using IEMs all the way to the final episode. The peak moment was when Gilgamesh’s Enuma Elish was unleashed, it felt like my ears were melting.
Unfortunately, some aspects felt lacking. Gilgamesh and Enkidu’s backstory wasn’t explored deeply enough and was only delivered through narration. As a result, Enkidu’s redemption arc didn’t feel as impactful as it could have been. Some moments that should’ve been dramatic didn’t hit as hard as they could have. Honestly, I’m starting to get a little tired of the Fate/Grand Order series, so I might take a break and watch something else before continuing my journey to the sixth Singularity in Fate/Grand Order the Movie: Divine Realm of the Round Table: Camelot Wandering; Agateram (2020).

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead (2023) adapted from the manga by Haro Aso. Tells the story of Akira Tendo, an office worker trapped in a monotonous and stressful life. When a zombie outbreak hits Tokyo, instead of being scared, Akira feels liberated from his dull routine and decides to live life on his own terms. He creates a bucket list of 100 things to do before turning into a zombie. Along the way, Akira meets Kencho, his best friend who dreams of becoming a stand-up comedian, Shizuka, a woman seeking to break free from a strict and structured life, and Beatrix, a quirky

German tourist fascinated by Japanese culture, who stands out in her samurai armor. Together, they embark on absurd and exciting adventures in a world falling apart.
The anime’s visuals are super fun, with vibrant and energetic colors that perfectly capture Akira’s newfound zest for life amidst the apocalypse. The action scenes are well crafted and impressive. If someone from the past asked what anime visuals in the 2020s look like, this would be the answer. However, despite the top tier visuals, the story in each episode feels pretty average. Rather than being engaging, it made me want to finish the series quickly because nothing felt particularly exciting.
The comedy which is supposed to be one of the main attractions, turned out to be one of its weaknesses for me. Many of the so called funny moments fell flat and ended up being cringy, like Kencho’s overused naked jokes, they just felt repetitive and gross. Even with its flaws in storytelling and humor, Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead is still in the "OKE" category for me.

The Witch and the Beast (2024), adapted from the manga by Kousuke Satake. Tells the story of Ashaf, a calm agent of the Order of Magical Resonance, and his wild partner, Guideau, who is trapped in a female body due to a witch’s curse. Together, they are assigned to handle cases involving magic, especially those related to witches, with the ultimate goal of finding the witch who cursed Guideau and breaking the spell.
@Rafimars345, this time your recommendation flopped, bro. The Witch and the Beast felt average to me, it only got good in the last three episodes. The rest of it had a dragging pace,

and the characters didn’t really keep me invested. The visuals and animation were decent, pretty much the standard for anime in this decade. But when compared to Zom 100: The Bucket List of The Dead (2023), which I watched recently, this one falls way behind. The main issue is the storytelling, which relies too much on flashbacks, making it less engaging and not leaving much curiosity behind.
