The classic art style is the most obvious similarity, but the tone is very alike too. Both set precedents in the mecha genre that are still followed today. Neither are very long reads either. These manga (and their respective series) are sort of eternally connected, even discounting the Dynamic Pro/Go Nagai connection. Pretty much necessary reading for any serious mecha fan.

Violent, gory, and deeply stylistic OVAs that are illustrated through beautiful animation. Decently potent emotion portrayed in a rather short runtime. A robust soundtrack adds to the experience in a major way.

Supernaturally powered characters make use of tools and ridiculous abilities to fight one another. Each fight feels distinct in both how they play out and appear visually. Unbelievably strong meathead MC is the guiding force for the main cast. Almost all forward action is concurrent with what they do throughout the show. The group dynamic between said MC and his allies becomes quickly engrossing.

A shonen battle manga that starts as mostly comedic, but eventually becomes focused on the action adventure element. Bombastic fights make up the bulk of what's on the page. MC has a deep desire to fight and a ferocious appetite. Exceedingly well crafted world-building that is accentuated by timeless art.

An action comedy series that hinges around a ridiculously overpowered MC and his group of close allies. Story arcs gradually become more serious as the manga goes on. MC has an air of humor throughout that lends itself to many gags. Comes across simple and one-track-minded, but genuinely grows as a character.

Horror mecha series that hinges around a small group of characters in a post-apocalyptic setting. High stakes right from the start. Impactful action scenes with robots getting into visceral fights with nasty monsters. Solid direction throughout. Even when the plot thins, the action grips you.

Starts as a gag manga, but eventually becomes a full-blown action series with dramatic fights and complete story arcs. MC creates a constantly growing group of friends, and consistently learns new moves/techniques. Establishes many tropes and concepts within the genre. Arguably the broader medium itself.
