Overall Rating: 6.6
This wasn't a spectacular show or anything, but it was a casual story that was fairly enjoyable. There were some things that were a bit questionable, but not enough that it really ruined the show for me. I would mainly recommend this show to any guy or girl interested in seeing the love story (mainly from a male perspective) of a zombie obsessed teen boy and, well, a zombie.
PLOT: 6 | Fair
The plot wasn't amazing, it was fairly simple, mainly just to live out the fantasies of a teenage boy who loves zombies. For a love story, I will give it credit
...
for being a bit more of a unique one. If it weren't for Rea's deep back story and the character depth we get to see within her family, I don't think this show would have been that great. I think the bits of backstory for characters helped the show. Not to mention, the fan service really was thrown in there quite a bit, so if you're into that then this is for you. Personally, I found it unnecessary--especially at times when things could have been very serious moments.
ART: 7 | Good
The art was cute. It was like your average modern-day anime art style. I think Chihiro's art style was a bit different from the rest, and I honestly still question why the heck he looks like a human cat? He has hair like he has cat ears and then sharp teeth like a cat..but this is never addressed. Weird, but whatever. Otherwise, I thought the art was nice.
SOUND: 6 | Fair
I gave this a 6 because the music or sounds never really caught my attention in any way or stood out to me. I can remember one little tune that played most of the time, but that's about it.
CHARACTER: 7 | Good
I think the characters all improved throughout the show and developed, which is the most important thing to me. Of course, it didn't quite happen gradually for some, but more so all of a sudden we were exposed to their whole backstory and were able to understand why they were the way they are. I appreciated this. I didn't like Ranko at first, but she grew on me somehow. I honestly felt bad for her. Rea herself I thought was a bit boring and one-dimensional, mainly supposed to play the cute innocent zombie girl. Chihiro's sister was also very one-dimensional. However, Rea's family and Ranko were enough for me to give the characters a 7.
ENJOYMENT: 7 | Good
I enjoyed it enough to watch the whole show in a few days. It wasn't amazing, but it wasn't the worst either. I'd recommend this to any guy who wants a romance anime with fan service, lol.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
I thought the English dub for this was amazing, though! Great voice actors for Chihiro and Ranko especially.

I can understand why this is such a controversial anime, but regardless of whether or not you thought the characters were "dumb" or "mean," they did evolve through the series. The writers did not intend for you to like all of the characters.
The whole point of School Days is to basically portray different perspectives of young love, especially ones revolving around an unfaithful relationship.
I will comment on the story and characters last and put a spoiler alert before that section.
ART: I wasn't amazed by the art, especially in the first episode when all of the people in the crowd were silhouettes...it seemed lazy, but
...
it is an older anime and the art didn't really seem to bother me. It was fair. 6/10
SOUND: The sounds and music were quite subtle (other than the intro, but that's not really part of the story, so I don't count it) so I thought the sound aspect of the show was good. Nothing incredible, but it suited the show just fine. 7/10
ENJOYMENT: Honestly, I was sucked into this anime from the start. I wanted to know what was going to happen between the characters, and who would end up with who. Little did I know just what I was getting myself into, but I have no regrets for watching it because it was overall meaningful, I enjoyed the character development, and it was packed full of unexpected drama that kept me on edge the whole time. 10/10
**UPCOMING TEXT MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.**
CHARACTER: I honestly was pleasantly surprised with the amount of character development the show had, especially from the beginning toward the middle. It was very well written character development among the main three characters, although the ending actions were very questionable and I did raise my eyebrows at that a bit. I disagree with the ending decisions for the characters, but at the same time I think the show wanted to make a dramatic point about the hell brought about from being so unfaithful and treating your friends like dirt.
HOWEVER, I was disappointed that none of the girls really stood up for themselves against Makoto, and left him in the dust. I think the closest to this is how Sekai finally dealed with Makoto, yet her final words with Katsura were not what I had hoped to hear.
Because I enjoyed watching most of the characters evolve throughout the series, even if it was for the worst, I found the character development to be very good in this series. Whether you like it or not, the characters all grew from that first episode drastically. Just because you think Makoto is a b*tch and Katsura is pitiful for never standing up to him, that doesn't mean they didn't evolve through the show. I think the writers wanted you to hate Makoto and pity Katsura in such a way, and I think it was brilliant for the most part. 8/10
STORY: Yes, there's fan service, but I think some of it was there for a reason, as it is a romance story about young love and how different people deal with relationships. I think Katsura was very self conscious of herself before being with Makoto for a while, and the fact that he pushed her to actually look at herself and realize that someone does like her body, she became more confident. I think that is why Katsura fell so hard for Makoto, because he was the reason she felt more confident. That is why Makoto's actions were so horrible, because to her he was special, and he just threw her away like nothing. I at first thought the addition of all the other people in the "harem" was a bit much, but I realized that it was only trying to portray how far gone Makoto really became. He was only in it for the physical aspect eventually, and he felt nothing truly for anyone.
The ending was a bit far fetched, but I think they wanted to really hit you with a dramatic ending to the result of an unfaithful relationship. So, for a few odd moments, I say this is a very good story. 8/10

I give this show a 7.5 rating overall. The art/animation and sound were both absolutely incredible and added to the show immensely. If it weren't for those two things, the show could've received a lower rating for sure. The art/animation and sound is what kept me drawn to the show, as it was so dark and disturbing in just the right way and with just the right amount.
Both the disturbing and pleasured expressions shown through the art was absolutely perfect for this type of show. They wanted the audience see exactly what the characters felt while gambling in an intense and dramatic way. This
...
show aimed to show you just why some people gamble: For the risk, fear, pleasure.
For the story itself, I had to give that a bit of a lower score because of my feelings about the finale. For a show that is meant to have this sort of repitition throughout the episodes, I think they did a good job handling that. The episodes all contained a sort of gambling with a new character, but it never felt entirely repetitive. As the show progressed, character development occurred and that's always my main focus in a show. Bad characters = bad story. You cannot have a good story with poor characters.
That leads me to my next factor: The characters. I thought the characters were surprisingly well rounded for a show with such a variety of characters. I honestly did not expect that after watching the first two or three episodes. HOWEVER, I had to give this a lower score because one of the MAIN characters--Ryouta--was not well rounded at all. He had barely any personality and barely any character development throughout the show. You had pretty much no reason to like or care about him whatsoever. He was boring.
Therefore, overall I think this anime is worth the watch if you're up for something a bit dark and unsettling. Do not watch this anime if you want something cute and innocent. I can't say this was incredible because there were some aspects of the show that could've been improved to make me more addicted to the show. I think a huge part of that is Ryouta's character.
