This anime isn’t your typical slice of life. It combines the calm day to day with the supernatural and fantastical. It’s moved me to tears multiple times throughout, while repeatedly completing subverting my expectations as to what’d happen next.
This is an amazing anime for people who like folklore and endings that want to make you binge all episodes in one go.
The ending was a massive 360°, and some people apparently don’t like it because of that, but it honestly felt like it built up to it quite naturally, slowly introducing the relevant concepts throughout.
The world building is top-notch as well.

Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song

Vivy is an interesting case. The story is marvelous, and the characters are written nicely. The fact you can see Divas personality evolve as technology advances and time passes is quite remarkable.
However, the ending is a bit of a nothing burger, and rather open-ended, which by itself isn’t bad, but the resulting episode feels half-assed. Not to mention that an entire episode at the end is used as a recap, which just seems like a waste. I absolutely adore the artstyle, and the fight scenes are very impactful. I’ll recommend this anime to any and all sci-fi nerds that would like to see an interesting ... May 29, 2024
A cute extra bit of BNA for those that've seen the Anime. I honestly wish there was much, much more of it, but I get that Trigger doesn't really like to stick with IPs.
The characters stay consistent with their Anime equivalents, same with the setting and storytelling. It's just more BNA in a different medium, and that's honestly all one could wish for. The only real critique I can provide is its story feeling a bit too grand, for supposedly taking place before the events of the later BNA Episodes, but after some of the family stuff has happened. Sousou no Frieren

Outright one of the best animes I've seen in a long while.
The writing of Frieren takes an interesting perspective regarding how different races handle Mortality, which is an angle that's rarely considered by many Animes, outside of "Oh, Elves live super long, and humans are nothing to them because of that.". Frieren is different. It doesn't just give you the same overdone Fantasy Human Protag, it shows you how Frieren thinks and why she thinks that way. Same goes for all the other characters. They all have their histories, reasons and habits that're portrayed in such intricate detail. Definitely check it out if you're a fan of ... Apr 1, 2024

I went in expecting another generic food anime, alongside some shape-shifter shenanigans, but instead I discovered the most heartwarming slice of life anime I've ever seen. Poco is plain adorable, and the story develops surprisingly naturally, considering the supernatural circumstances. I wish there was more to this story, but unless I read the Manga, I doubt I'll find anything more. Highly recommend it to anyone who wants to feel the need to get up and hug their loved ones.
The Art style is simply incredible too, always having this radiant warmth to it, like the pastel drawings of a child, similar to Studio Ghiblis Ponyo. |
