"Who cares if we don't see the sunshine again, I want you more than any blue sky."
Weathering With You is another one of Makoto Shinkai's visual treats that'll leave you glued to the screen, in awe of the vibrant and brilliant imagery in front of you. Radwimps makes a reappearance bringing in yet another beautiful soundtrack. The animation pushes the boundaries yet again.
Hodaka Morishima is a runaway, irritated and frustrated with his life. He moves to Tokyo in hopes of finding a better opportunity, but is welcomed by a huge cultural shock. His life, however, turns into one of adventure and mishaps when he meets Hina Amano, a young girl
...
accustomed to the unforgiving ways of a fast paced world.
The film tackles the debate of climate; how it affects the people of the world and vice versa. Hina gains the ability to manipulate weather on will, and it soon proves to be more troublesome than helpful. The movie portrays how dangerous weather can be, and its impact on the lives of everyone around us.
Breathtaking visuals supported by great music, wonderful cast of entertaining characters and a showcase of the powerful force of nature. A colourful combination, uniting together to make a great cinematic experience.

"Wherever you are in the world, I'll search for you."
I finally got the opportunity to watch Makoto Shinkai's masterpiece Your Name in the theatres. A film so beautifully constructed, you're left wishing for that world to be real. Visually stunning and auditorily melodic, the film is not only well crafted, it's chock full of different genres all wonderfully colliding into one. Radwimps makes a wonderful debut into the film industry, providing a stellar soundtrack that compliments the beauty of the film.
Mitsuha Miyamizu, an energetic teen brought up in a remote town crosses roads with Taki Tachibana, an industrious teen spending his days in the never-sleeping city of Tokyo. Their lives

intertwine and soon, an unusual relationship unfolds. The character interactions, between the leads and among the various supporting cast, is highly engaging, full of comedic and heartwarming moments.
The world-building is fantastic and the characters' portraits are drawn out subtly. The film is an enjoyable ride that takes us on the journey of these characters. Its message of the importance of love and affection between people is masterfully portrayed.
A movie worth watching in the theatres. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll smile, you'll hope. An unignorable blockbuster.

"He told me to keep smiling through tough or painful times, even if I had to force myself to do it."
Mamoru Hosoda's Wolf Children beautifully captures the struggles and hardships that a parent goes through. The film portrays the events of Hana's life, as she goes through various trials and tribulations in raising her children, in a brilliant yet heartbreaking way. The movie's full of vibrant imagery, stunning cinematography and masterful storytelling. The soundtrack is endearing, serene and soothing.
A coming of age story, that shows the nature of societal pressure. Having to break the boundaries, and be who you want to be, is none other than an achievement.

mother's love knows no bounds, and that is evident throughout the movie. Rewatching this with my mum was a treat. Grown up, one realises what a parent, especially a single parent, goes through. Hardworking, determined, without complaints, smiling ear to ear. Qualities as such aren't weaved into one, but situations will either force you to or you'll end up accepting them. The film presents these ideas in a natural and coherent manner. Well paced, well acted, perfectly executed.
Wolf Children is the depiction of journey of life. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, making you laugh wholeheartedly once and then blanketing your cheeks with tears. A journey worth going through, because someday, it'll be yours.

Never have I ever wanted to be a 3-legged chair before in my entire life.
Here we go, my first review on MyAnimeList. Let's see how this goes.
Makoto Shinkai brings yet another masterwork into the animation medium. The film Suzume no Tojimari is brimming with breathtaking visuals that encapsulate the beauty and the horror that prevails over the country of Japan. The set-pieces are gigantic, detailed and resemble the real life locations really well. The score fits the theme of the movie and elevates the overall ethereal experience of the world within it. Radwimps has done it again.
The story follows Suzume, a bright cheerful girl, and Souta, a mysterious man, on
...
a cross-country adventure. Their goal is to close the enigmatic doors spread across the locations that have been locked away by the people. The movie does well in explaining the various rules that govern these mysterious doors, and establishes the surreal events that take place thereafter masterfully.
On her journey, Suzume comes across multiple people who guide her and provide assistance along the way. Though it's the main duo, or should I say "trio", that carry the film. Suzume's backstory is one to pull at your heartstrings, and it works. Such is the charm of Shinkai's works.
The film also has the usual rom-com nature that is present in Shinkai's movies. It makes for a good way to relieve oneself from the trauma and depressing world that is prevalent throughout. Though the romance could have been portrayed better, since it plays a "key" role in the decisions made by the endearing characters.
The film shines in portraying the consequences of disasters. The loss, helplessness and despair that follow are effectively captured here. It's an experience that must be had on a big screen. My first Shinkai film in a movie theatre, and definitely not the last.
