As much as I would like this manga, I just couldn't really enjoy it at all. I won't be spoiling it at all so please ignore my vague language.

You see Akira just gets passed through all the challenges he finds himself in in an almost instantaneous manner. I understand it's a 2 volume manga, but jeez! With the 400-500 pages you had you could've at least made me care more! Rockruff is basically OP and a secret organization wants to kidnap him for world domination reasons. Honestly if you want to read it go ahead but it's really annoying just reading the same few ... pages that's literally. 1. Rockruff gets beat up and looks like he will faint. 2. A Akira likes battling and so does Rockruff 3. This instantly causes Rockruff to not want to faint anymore and unlocks his special anime powers or whatever.

Also the villain dynamic between the leader of the Kings and his son is literally just Ghetsis and N but worse. 💀💀💀

Okay so my positive rating is just pure bias so you know. This was one of my favorite Pokémon movies growning up, and I'm not really sure why exactly. It's overall a pretty nothing burger movie, but for some reason I find the atmosphere of the movie to generally be extremely calming. It's definitely one of the prettiest Pokémon movies created, and the sound track is amazing too. The overall issue with this movie is that it feels like nothing really happens, I don't really know how to explain it more than that. The forest feels more restrictive than anything, and we don't even really ... get to see much besides it and it alone. Maybe if it was like another 30 minutes longer and we got a bit more something in there it would be good, but overall I feel like it's just something you'll watch and probably think it's pretty and beautiful, but then overall understand how boxed in it feels. I do have to say that the first scene we see of Vicious, Iron-Masked Marauder, is pretty awesome, just because we hardly get to see villains in the Pokémon anime actually be that imposing and threatening in a more realistic manner.... well besides the whole turning tyranitar into a giant evil Pokémon thing...

Also the Professor Oak scene in the movie was changed from the Japanese to English version. It was just originally him getting muk'd while saying a haiku about either suicune or celebi I cannot remember. Tracey was also there and he said NOTHING and just looked akwardly at the camera and waved. This got changed to an overall more dramatic scene in the English release. I also can't recall this but I'm also pretty sure there is an extra scene with us seeing Sammy go back in time in the Japanese version, although I could possibly be wrong about this and it's also in the English version. ALSO THE JAPANESE RELEASES LOOKS WAY BETTER THAN THE ENGLISH ONE TOO!

Anyways the movie is a bit bland, but it has some cool scene here and there. Mostly only involving the villian and that's it. It definitely not on the same level of awfulness as the Rise of Darkrai is... sorry :p
