First of all, idk why minako or whatever is so opposed to the tall, dark, and mysterious demon lord sweeping her off her feet. Looks like that and you'd have me in a second, put me in horny jail, so help me.
I haven't read the manga, but I read other reviews so I'm extremely disappointed there's not more episodes of this. As a standalone movie, it just doesn't work. We're thrown into the middle of a story and this Deimos guy keeps popping up and being all hot and stuff, but doesn't contribute much to the story. The main story was filler in a
...
longer series, so it doesn't make any sense to have that be the whole goddamn movie. Wheelchairs only advantage was that she had a bow, otherwise she can't really do much, she'd have been so easy to sneak up behind and kick in the head. This whole stupid thing could have been over with much sooner. The rest of the characters are just sort of there. Unfortunately 30 minutes isn't enough time to give characters much depth or development.
The art, on the other hand, is genuinely some of the best I've seen from 1988. It's a damn shame we didn't get more of it. The character designs aren't unique or anything, save Deimos, but I just really love this style. The visuals are very good at setting the mood, with the dramatic victorian man energy that bleeds from Lestat's gayer twin. The backstory sequence, that explained why they were killing people, is harsh line work on a solid background, and the dramatic and intense look would do a great job of story telling if this story wasn't so goddamn stupid. There were some very cool shots for sure.
Someone who made this cared, and you can tell from the clear effort put into it. It was probably supposed to get a few more episodes, but this is all we have. It certainly isn't conclusive, and I'm left wanting more. What an unfortunate predicament this is

So there's a good deal of anti war movies out there. On one hand, you have the legendary Nausicaa, or Barefoot Gen. On the other you get shit like this. I was surprised to find out that this was made by the same guy who did Barefoot Gen, but I did make some connections between the two (specifically the b29 flying over the city felt exactly like the opposite view of the same plane in Barefoot Gen). However, this took everything that worked in the prior movie and defenestrated it.
The characters were generally unlikeable, with few personality traits other than "me hate Americans". All
...
of their motivations just felt forced and over the top. So whore number 1 was effected by the bomb, and she tries to get revenge by giving syphilis to Americans and thinking they'll die (syphilis is curable by penicillin this bitch is stupid). Whore number 2 has awful radiation burns and tries to scare and guilt men with her hideous body. As one imagines, this is not the most effective method of revenge. And this being an anime from the 80s, she of course is raped by an American man who chants America best America always win. The bartender has emotional baggage about the bomb too, and won't serve the American kind at his business. So naturally a bunch of average Americans try to shoot him up and rob him, calling him slurs and the like. Obviously this doesn't work cause the character makes it to the end of the movie.
A story of revenge can be driven and meaningful, but this was just the creators anti American word vomit realized on the screen. I understand the resentment but this is presented in a very unrealistic way, with none of the characters motivations making much sense. This is generally just a shit show, except for the fact that it goes into the discrimination faced by survivors of the bomb. This film focused on the psychological impact and the nasty feelings that may brood, which not many other movies do.
The art wasn't half bad, but I think the voice acting could have been better. This just wasn't a very good movie at all, it's lucky to have gotten a 4 from me

Listen here y'all, I'm here for a good time, not to understand the plot. And what a good time this is...
So Billy idol is some sort of super soldier guy, and he was part of a discontinued program. Now I guess he does like vigilante work and stuff. The main girl honestly I have the exact same haircut I really don't know what to call her. She comes off as an annoying slut at first, but overall is not the most annoying character I've ever encountered. Billy idol puts on some armor that looks like a football uniform, and he's got to fight the other
...
robot guy. The fight ends fairly quickly with Billy idol popping his opponent's head. There's lots of like blood and stuff and then he's got to stop the big bad guy. I do plan on watching the sequel.
As for the dub it's pretty bad but that's just what you get for 1986. The animation really is all right considering the fact that it's almost 40 years old. Character designs are clearly memorable considering I came up with nicknames, and the story was confusing to my stupid little brain, but it was at least interesting.
I don't know what I just watched. 8/10

I just got here from reviewing the first movie, because I watched them right in a row (I have too much time on my hands LOL). The animation and voice acting is about the same, the characters are bland and flat, there's nothing interesting to them, they don't really have any personality traits, and the only thing that sets this villain aside is that it's a child. I assume they use the same actors for the English dub in this movie as the first one, but I didn't look before reviewing this and I'm not going to stop revealing it to look now. I'll just
...
say that once again it's very mediocre.
This movie did not keep my attention as well as the first one I'll admit. A lot more of a plot seems forced, like the part where it turns out that the kid is the bad guy instead of his mom. Then you spend the rest of the movie rooting for them to just kill the damn kid already, but it doesn't really happen and...honestly I got bored so I don't really remember the ending, except it felt very abrupt. Of course the protagonists survived, because this is the middle of the manga, you can't kill off the main characters when there's the rest of the story to finish.
4/10

The concept of eating mermaids to gain eternal life is not one that I am unfamiliar with. I've seen it in other anime such as the kurura mao series, but this is two whole movies versus one episode of a miniseries. While the animation is very basic and bland, and the characters are flat and forgettable, the story did keep me wanting to watch the show the whole way through.
As I always say, when a show is boring I wish for more action just to spice things up a little. I'd say this movie was about half and half with the action and such.
...
The plot didn't feel like it had a whole lot of filler, but the fight scenes were rather underdone. I thought the backstory did a pretty good job of explaining what was going on to the viewer, and I followed the plot quite well. As for the voiceover I would say it's not very good. Actors are either robotic or melodramatic, with no in between. When the doctor pronounced that chick dead it literally sounded like somebody got a robot to say it. It's not the worst I've ever heard though.
Like I mentioned before, the animation is very basic for the time. The characters don't stand out whatsoever, and even the villain isn't unique for any reason other than she wears pink when nobody else does.
As with most TV shows in history there are a few twists and turns on the plot. Most of the shocking reveals are not totally obvious, but the melodramatic voice acting is the downfall of any surprise factor there should have been. With all the criticism though, this really is not a bad movie. If something keeps me interested that means it's at least kind of well written (I have ADHD), and I think the story flowed along nicely. It didn't feel overly rushed, but it didn't feel like there was too much filler either. I'd give it a solid 5.5/10

I'm only writing this because there aren't any reviews yet.
I mean, it's 23 seconds long, how much could anyone possibly say? Like idk, cool project I guess. I gave it a 5 cause it's not particularly good or bad, and clearly it didn't make any sort of impact on me. What was it, an MTV clip, right? I think it's pretty good for the intended purpose
As for characters there's one dude with like bugs or something, he doesn't really do anything except for have bugs on him. I'd say the art style is fitting, it's supposed to be unsettling and it is a

You know it's really bad when you find yourself wishing there was an abundance of sex and violence, to at least spice it up a little. But no, this shit fest is utterly boring nonsense. I didn't think there was a way to suck the life out of a dollar store Indiana Jones story, but this has proved me wrong. So, let's get in the pimpmobile and go on a trip to discover the ins and outs of one of the worst anime known to man.
To start on a positive note, I'll say that the dub can't have been too terrible because it didn't
...
stand out to me in any way. Now, onto the rest of it. Fuck this movie, man, it was ok for the first fifteen minutes or so, but by the half hour mark I was checking to see if it was over yet. The premise of the story doesn't seem so bad at first, but then they just keep cramming more and more shit into 90 minutes. Guy goes on an adventure to the middle east to find a cube with an ancient script, ok, it seems he'll travel the eastern hemisphere quite a bit on this mission, fine. Guy takes said cube back to his science buddy and has him x-ray it, and they discover triangles inside, crystal triangles at that. Creative. And of course it's all part of a bigger scavenger hunt. So far it all seems like a standard action adventure movie, but then all the governments are involved, including Russia, who sends the fucking GRANDSON OF RASPUTIN of all people, who pulls a helicopter out of the sky in a dying attempt at redemption. Then you involve the Yakuza member who drives a pimp car full of an impossible amount of weapons, and offers to join guy and his little ragtag gang of college students on their quest to find some world changing message from our lord and savior Jesus Christ. Of course the Americans are after it too, they involve themselves in everything. The main thing stopping these 3 teams are the Hih tribe of monks, but they're actually ancient lizard monsters with psionic brain powers. Oh, and one of the college students is actually an ancient evil priestess, and despite her wigging out and prophesizing a few times, they were none the wiser. God is a giant worm baby, by the way, so all christian art ever is wrong. They both go down with Not The Starship Enterprise We Promise, but not until they tell guy to basically take Imagine by John Lennon to heart and not tell anyone the prophecy until the world can live as one.
For some reason guy is the only one who can read the ancient language. We don't know why.
Now the animation isn't completely awful, and there are some good camera angles, but overall this looks like the animators were paid with naan bread and a high five. Most of the character designs are very plain, and it just looks cheap. For 1987 it's not the worst I've seen though. The sound left me cringing, it's all horrid 80s synth noises that feel completely out of place. It also seems to have degraded a lot over the years.
The main reason I hate this movie so much is because it's 90 goddamn minutes long and there's no real character development, no reason to be attached to the ones who die, and nothing truly meaningful in the whole script. This watches like some math majors got together, did shrooms, and the overly religious one convinced them all they should make a movie. It's not one of the ones that's so bad it's good, it's just plain bad.

Approx 1 minute 55 seconds into the movie, the karate dude who got beat up didn't have his shadows animated for a couple frames, and when he walks off screen he disappears before he reaches the edge of the frame 😭. However, I will give credit where it's due; the animation style is actually quite interesting, I haven't seen anything quite like it. It's also one of the first old OVAs that animates blinking, but it's not consistent.
In terms of adult content, I'm glad it's not overly sexual, just violence and action.
Confusing as the story may be, it sure is a fun watch.
...
I also noticed the blue haired lady looked a lot like angel cop lol. As with all anime of the era, you gotta have some key elements: tentacle demons, some beautiful man with long hair, cheesy soundtrack, and a healthy amount of blood and gore. Sometimes the dialogue feels a little awkward, but overall I'd say the dub isn't too awful. There's always gonna be a couple actors who just aren't that good, but it's ok cause it's not the kind of movie where it matters.
I'd say to watch it just cause of the fantastical plot. It's a wild ride for sure, and the blood summoning thing is so weird lmao what a good waste of an hour

Memories is as robot carnival is as neo tokyo. They're all sets of 3 stories with different styles and genres, though all remaining sci-fi, and all completely brilliant. In terms of direction, story, art, etc it's mostly amazing.
I'll admit I did like the first episode the best, because horror is my favorite genre. The art was some of the most creative and incredible that I've seen, the acting was pretty great, and the story had my attention in a death grip the whole time. There's nothing I'd critique tbh.
As for the second one, well I guess I just don't like "black humour" as
...
I've seen it called. I just spent the whole time pissed at the main character lol insufferable little jerk. But it was interesting, well animated, and generally smooth in terms of plot movement.
The third episode is unbelievably detailed, and all done in one shot I think. The movement from room to room, the background, all the details of the steam cannons, I just can't praise it enough. It seems to take inspiration from WW1 Europe in terms of what the characters wear, plus the British bombers, which definitely adds to the militaristic and dystopian theme. I don't know anything about who wrote it and what the real meaning is, but I like to think that since they drew from multiple countries, it's intended to say that none of us are immune to falling into a dictatorship and overly nationalistic society. War hurts us all.
I absolutely recommend this, it's an instant classic

A lot of similarly themed anime fall into obscurity for a reason. An earthquake destroys the city, everything falls into chaos, and some group comes together to save the day. The thing that separates this from all the meh stuff is the interesting ish and somewhat unique characters. The art is pretty damn good for 1993, and the animation is mostly smooth and nice looking. I think the background music was decent, as it didn't distract from the film like a lot of those 90s soundtracks do. The English dub also isn't half bad. There's not really any nudity, and violence is minimal, but I
...
was interested in something other than shock factor, which says a lot about how this is written. I didn't love it, but it left me wanting more, like maybe a mini series or something
