From the author that brought us a number of loli hentai manga (yes i read loli hentai), comes "Stretch", a more 'normal' manga than Higashiyama Shou's previous works.
How many times have you stumbled upon a manga that encourages you to DO something instead of just laying around reading them? Yes, Stretch is that kind of rare manga. Heck, I don't remember other quite like this. Here, I will try to prove to you why you should read this.
The story of Stretch revolves around the two main characters, Keiko and Ran, who shares an apartment. It's about their daily life, relationship, and the funny
...
moments that comes with it. However, the main point of this manga is, as the name of the title, stretching.
Stretching is a routine that the two began doing in the beginning of the manga. In the manga it is depicted as if it's a guidebook on how to do various stretch including how it looks like and the details of what you should do. It's simple yet pretty easy to do. Almost every chapter has a stretching part that made me personally joins them in doing it. Is that it? A comedy + stretching manga? Oh, no. The story has more in store for you.
As the story goes, more and more are revealed about the characters. Their past, their relationship, and the drama behind it. The great thing about this manga is that every chapter has a rather pleasant feel to it while slipping in bits by bits of a rather dramatic story in a way that you won't feel bored reading it. The jokes are almost always funny for me thanks to what I think one of the strongest point of Stretch, the characters.
The characters are not exceptionally unique or something, but they certainly have their own charm. As an individual character, each of them are mediocre to somehow good, but as a pair, these two are simply amazing. Both are well balanced characters both in the story and in the comedy. They're written well enough that you'll be familiar with their personality easily. The two are likable both in design and the feel they give off.
I won't say much for the art except that it's nice, clean, easy on the eye, but has a few inconsistency here and there. All in all, if you're looking for a manga that's unique and interactive then this is the manga you're looking for. Some light read with decent story and characters? Pick this up. Feeling tired and sore all over? Getting fat? Go read this manga right away!
