When thinking about anime with school setting, what type of story would sprung in your mind?
Usually a romance, or maybe a slapstick comedy, or even a story where the main protagonist join a really weird club.
Let see what setting School Days has:
1.It is a harem...[check]
2.There are female character that really shy-to-boy type of girl...[check]
3.Okay, the main protagonist has some crush on her... [check]
4.Now there are another girl that like the main protagonist-she hide her feeling, but agree to help him getting the shy girl...[check]
Now what a very typical setting for a school romance story. However, this series will showyou the dark side
...
of school. Before I make my review, here some advice before you watch it:
1.Be prepared. Don't make any early assumption because you will really shocked how the story unfold.
2.If you have some issue with the main protagonist that very indecisive, then watch this. The main protagonist is very bold in making his decision.
3.How old are you? If you are 16+ then watch it. But for those viewer below 15, ensure that you have an older audience with you. Not to give you some educational advice but to comfort you. You will understand when you start watching this series...
4.If you want to drop this series after starting it then drop it before episode 6. Cause it's already "too late" after that.
Okay, lets begin. School Days is an anime based on a visual novel with the same name developed by 0verflow. The story has some dramatic twist and has a slice-of-life element in it. It follows the life of Makoto Ito, an ordinary high school student that trying to pursue his love interest. While it may sound like a very ordinary stuff, the thing is School Days really show you how a very ordinary story could develop into a disastrous love story. What kind of anime do you think that cause it final episode got delayed and in some cases the TV station cancelled it's airing? The person that recommend me the story said that this series will really make you think again about a how harem anime should and could be, and I agree with him. It show what happen if a human is push to their sanity limit-and beyond. How fragile a human heart can be and show you what is the price for loyalty. This series basically is a very psychologically deep-impact one.
When watching this series, it really created has some sort of dark atmosphere. I don't know how to explain it but it very similar to that one when I watch Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. The kind of,"where did the hell it gone wrong?" and also," wait a sec, what did the hell he was doing?" those kind of thought. To enjoy this really require you to be mentally prepared because trust me, this thing will scar you for life. The plot in my opinion is very good. Especially how they unfold it. It's however not without a flaw. The final phase of the story I think is quite rushed, but I don't really mind. When I say that don't drop it after episode 6 it because you can unleashed you hatred at the and of series. Just watch it till the end...
School Days actually is a good anime. I say this because it succeed in achieving what it suppose, triggering hatred and disgust. Actually, it's not the story that cause it but the character especially the main- uhh... protagonist, I think (***But he really doesn't act like one. More like an anti-hero type of character***). He is the kindof someone that has "morality impaired syndrome". He maybe look ordinary at first but as his character developed he will become much and much worst. You will understand when you watch this series.
Final thought, watch it. But remember be mentally prepared. Then, all that left is just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. And also don't forget to ensure that you put any breakable stuff away from you. Cheers.
p/s-I clapped my hand after watching the ending. How about you?
