I was a little skeptical at the beginning of Sugar Apple, but relationship tensions and visuals eventually sold me on this anime. Keep in mind, even though the genre lists "romance," the romance is a bit more of a tease/tame. The concept of fairy slavery makes Anne and the viewer ask themselves ethical questions throughout. Slower paced with somewhat predictable plot twists but still overall satisfying (because I love me my shoujo). Again, artwork was beautiful but the plot complexity was wanting. The broad themes of the story include perseverance, comradery, integrity, and forbidden love. I hope Part 2 of Sugar Apple includes more background ... information about Anne's late mother or father.

This lightly dark isekai does not stand up to the title "Overlord." I wanted the contrast between the main character and his "boss" persona to be more severe (Overlord as bad***/intimidating vs humble/restrained). Though I did enjoy his continual reference to game jargon (e.g. cash shop) and his Christmas eve mask. Since Momonga's powers were so over the top compared to humans, it was a little boring as there was no struggle or surprise in confrontations, merely distaste. The story progressed slowly and a little too rationally by the MC for it to be exciting enough. A plot twist or truly grand adversary would have ... spiced things up a bit.

Great technical art, but a generic storyline. If you are looking for a simple, feel-good anime, this is it. Iroduku: The World in Colors is not very original or out-of-the-box. For me, it was more of a way to pass the time. I love the magic, mage, modern, and art-focus aspect of the anime but from the first two episodes, you can basically predict the flow of the episode sequence. I mostly enjoyed the high-quality visuals and "cookie-cutter" character development. The flow is slow and clean. For some reason, Hitomi's and all the girl faces have a perpetual blush. As a character designer, I would ... not have done this.
