The premise and source seem like a great story. The animated version has been a rough execution. The pacing ruins it. To be brief, it would be like reading the first and last line of every chapter in a book, then animating what you've read.
I'd be willing to bet the source is good. It feels like the glimpses of the plot arcs and character development we get from the show have great potential. The leaps in pacing have made watching the anime increasingly frustrating as the series goes on.
