[Contains major spoilers]
ID: Invaded is a show that aired a couple of seasons back, and since I`m not a seasonal anime kinda guy I skipped it. But with almost nothing to watch in this season, I decided to go back and check out this anime. Was it worth it? Let`s review!
[Art & Animation] 6/10
Artstyle is a little weird and can make some people even drop the show. Backgrounds are basic but character faces are pretty unique. Characters look ok almost always, but sometimes they are very weird. I think the best way you can describe the art is stylish.
...
The animation is also not exceptional, it can be good in some moments but most of the time it`s just meh. It`s also very inconsistent but it`s tolerable because it backs up the not-so-well-choreographed fight scenes. Art & Animation are the two weakest spots of the show, but even it`s not too bad.
[Sound & Music] 7/10
The soundtrack is noticeable only in 3-4 scenes in the show. Songs can sometimes through you off the mood (like in ep 1) but then used appropriately and works well. All songs come from the same album so you can easily listen to them outside of the show.
OP has some great music and nice visuals to back it up. It`s not "hype" at all but it`s also doesn`t feel like the standard sad anime ED. About the ED,
music is just not for me, but visuals are very interesting and it beats the OP
in that aspect.
[Story & Mystery] 10/10
The story is very interesting and engaging, though I can`t see the "message", or one thing that this anime ultimately comes to. I thought that Kaeru is the one that brings the show to its end but it seems they decided to not finish her story and left it to the possible season 2. So who this story is about then? I think it`s about Narihisago and his life, before and after the deaths, his family, and only despair that was left at him after the incident.
And I feel like anime delivered his emotions brilliantly. I cried in the scene he was talking to his family on the phone. Great work there.
The mystery is something that makes the core of the series because even with all it`s unique aspects it`s still a detective and so the mystery should be good. But even in that, this show is also original. Almost all detective shows include a metaphorical puzzle, which our detectives solve. Here, solving cases isn`t this important since viewers and the characters are solving a different puzzle. Characters solve little puzzles and it`s the viewers' job to bring them together so you don`t get the enjoyment of solving crimes with the characters since you operate on a much larger scale. Every little event that happens in the show matters, there is not a second wasted on non-important details because there are none. Every character, scene, dialogue matters. That makes the mystery of this show just perfect.
[Characters] 9/10
As I already stated previously, all characters matter and they fell like actual people, not like plot devices like in many similar shows. Our main hero
is the most interesting character that got a great deal of development in the series. Kaeru is in a strange position, we know almost everything about her but her story isn`t over which isn't the best solution in this situation. I`m afraid that season 2 will never come and even if it will, how will the studio handle the main plot point-freeing Kaeru. Hondoumachi is ok, I guess, this character didn`t stand out tame, despite being in the main cast. Also, there is the Boss but I don`t get his motives and he`s a pretty weak villain.
Also wanted to say that the investigation team members have personalities and are interesting. The character that was a surprise for me is Fukuda. He seemed like a disposable one-arc villain but became practically one of the main characters, got an interesting backstory, and then met his end of the story. I didn`t even hate anybody in the show where the main heroes are serial killers so that`s nice. Almost all the characters are great and have solid development.
[Production] 8/10
ID:Invaded is a fully original series so the quality of the show on the hands of the studio, which is a disaster is many instances. This series is produced by studio NAZ which did almost nothing and is pretty new. Most of the staff also didn`t work on almost anything so it`s a mystery to me how inexperienced staff and an unexperienced studio can make such a show. But the did it, so all props to them. Only Fukuda`s voice actor stands out to me, he did a good job.
[Personal enjoyment] 9/10
I enjoyed this show and it`s very upsetting that so many people slept on it. It`s a must-watch if an average amount of gore doesn`t push you away. I liked almost everything here and binged the series in a day.
[Overall & Recomendations] 8/10
The calculated score for the show is 8.1 or just 8. I think it deserves way more recognition than it has now but with all that seasonal system if you slept on anime once you`ll never return to it. It`s a great sci-fi detective story which everybody should watch.
I don`t watch any detective anime and I still haven`t watched a lot of shows in general. The closest thing I can recommend is Persona 5 since it has a similar criminal-brain-dive concept. I recommend playing the original game but if you can`t, then watch the anime adaptation. It`s not that bad.
It was Parnick, and thank you for listening.

After watching this series I`ve reached a milestone. It`s my 50th anime and I`m happy that I've watched that much already. So let`s see how good this show was!
[Art & Animation] 7/10
Art was pretty good for a slice of life show. Especially backgrounds looked very nice and lightning was helping with that a lot. Characters are drawn ok, nothing more.
Animation is usually not important for this type of show but it`s different here. In battles, which occur not that often they look very good, even better than in some seinen series. Fights feel
...
impactful and just strait-up cool.
[Sound & Music] 7/10
The soundtrack is generic, but works well and conveys needed emotions. It`s not special nor original but still nice. The sound design in fights makes them feel "real" in the context of this show. That is very important since it helps show Rikka`s view of the world.
OP and ED are both very good, in terms of songs itself and the visuals that accompany them. Visually op is very unique. I`ve never seen that "two screens" trick before. Also, the great meme was in it, so can`t complain. Lyrics in both songs are what impressed me the most-they make sense and tell the viewer what the show is about. OP is about the love aspect and ED is about being "special" or "unique". You don`t see that in many shows nowadays.
[Story] 9/10
Disclaimer: that is just my interpretation of the story so take it with a great assault, since it may be way different from yours.
This story is about puberty and growing up. One of the parts of this process is the eighth-grade syndrome. It was pretty impactful for me since I am at that age and anime is one of the things that have the most influence on my life. And because of that, I may have a very different opinion on the story than the people that are already way past that topic.
Enough about me, let`s dive into the story and it`s the message a little bit deeper. The show mainly focuses on the growing up as some others do. But it tries a different approach to this process, "eighth-grade syndrome". Strange condition, which makes people suddenly change their behaviors. It happens because of appearing self-consciousness that comes with puberty. People start maturing and differentiate themselves from others and adopt strange mannerisms to do that. After that period many people want to forget that but always fail. That is what the story of Nibutani and Yuuta is about - growing up and understanding your place in the world.
Rikka`s story is a bit different from theirs. It`s still about maturing but in a different way - through loss. The need to escape reality in extreme situations is what caused her case of the eight-grade syndrome to become so extreme. The show also explores this aspect of puberty, which can touch most people at that age.
End message. Eight-grade syndrome is something that will remain with us forever, that will to be special, self-consciousness, imagination, and playful nature. It all remains to the end of our lives and we shouldn't throw it away since it is part of human lives and our stories.
[Comedy & Tragedy] 8/10
Comedy is what the first half of the show is all about. Rikka`s actions are what drives almost all the jokes in the first half and they are what gives this show it`s great humor. The punchline isn't always good but Rikka`s acting so cute that you just can`t stop smiling. Just feels good, man. Other character interactions can also be fun sometimes but nothing beats our main duo!
Tragedy is what the second half of the show is all about. Rikka`s backstory and her reasoning for such extreme chunibyo case. The story is sad but the delivery of it is just great. Just feels bad, man. Shown the dynamic between our main duo. It`s a high-level drama that made this show even better than it already was.
[Characters & Romance] 7/10
A most interesting character out of all cast is, of course, Rikka. She has the best backstory and the most screentime. I also really like her design (Mostly because I like the eyepatch. This eyepatch is the reason I watched this show in the first place so...) Our main hero also has some interesting moments. All other members of the cast are unique (except the best friend character, he`s pretty generic), but don`t have much depth in them. I`m not saying they are bad, just not that interesting. Dynamic between all the members is good, though.
The relationship between our main duo is nicely developed throughout the show. They don`t confess in the last second and end the show like some romcoms do. And they don`t just fall in love at the first sight, which is already better than some series. You can fell the chemistry between them and their relationship feels real. It`s like this could happen in real life or a relationship may start like this. Either way, it is a very well though-out romantic plot and it`s progression.
[Production] 8/10
This anime is produced by the studio that everybody is familiar with, Kyoto Animation. They made many great and popular shows, like Violet Evergarden, Koe no Katachi, K-on! and many others. They did a great job with this show too. That`s all you need to know about the staff because if I`ll start writing about this I`ll fell sad so we stop here. I just want to say thanks for this great series.
[Personal enjoyment] 7/10
Of course, I enjoyed this series, if it was the opposite, then I wouldn`t be here now. I like this type of anime and enjoy romcoms like that. Our main duo and their relationship are heartwarming, comedy is great and drama is touching. And Rikka`s noises are something that we should show to the next generations as the ultimate cuteness.
[Overall & Recomendations] 8/10
The score of this show is 7.5 so I as always added 0.5 and made the overall rating 8/10. I think it was a very good "puberty" anime and should be the standard for those types of series.
I would recommend it to everybody, who enjoys romcoms and slice of life shows even a little. If you liked this series then I recommend to you: Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko, Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume Wo Minai and Sakura-sou no Pet na Kanojo. The first one has a similar plot progression and the other two have some different takes on growing up and are focusing mainly on that.
It was Parnick, and thank you for listening.

[Contains major spoilers]
I finished this series and it`s one of the best romcoms I`ve ever seen. Let`s figure out why.
[Art & Animation] 10/10
Art is good, better than in most romcoms. But in best moments it works great with animation style and it can change from time to time to support the gag. As an example of that, we have Shojo gag in ep 7. Lighting is heavily used to show the anime's tone at the moment.
Animation is just outstanding and works perfectly. In this type of animation, the show is very similar to the Monogatari series.
...
And in this show, it truly shines. I don`t think you can enjoy this series in the manga form since all the animation tricks are just on the masterclass level. This art & animation is just perfect for this show and one of the best aspects of it.
[Sound & Music] 9/10
Soundtrack is very definitive and nice. It makes the impression from the animation way higher. I will remember this soundtrack for a long time. All the music is very unique and is not like anything I heard in anime.
Visuals of the OP and ED are pretty generic for a romcom, and music in the ED is not that good. But the Opening is made by the same person who composed OP of the first season. In my opinion, they topped their first opening, not by visuals but by music.
[Comedy & Tragedy] 10/10
Comedy is a very subjective thing so don`t take this portion too close to heart. But I love comedic anime since they help to relieve stress and you don`t have to think too hard. I can see why some people may dislike this show and some love it. The reason is a situational comedy which is the core of almost every slice of life show. I also enjoy watching slice of life series so I like it but for some people, it may be not funny at all.
The show can have its sad moments from time to time. They are rare, but very well executed. The best example of it is the 11th episode of the anime that manly focuses on Ishigami and his struggles. It`s a very emotional episode, I didn`t cry but it was close, props to the show. While watching this episode the anime felt more like a drama than a lite-hearted comedy.
[Characters & Romance] 9/10
This is a comedy that mainly relies on fun character interactions. For it to work you first of all should have interesting characters that would create those situations. Characters are the core of this show, as many "slice of life" comedies, it`s nothing but characters. And this anime has a nice cast to back it up. Main characters are very distant from the average viewer int terms of wealth but close to them with their normal, human problems. Also...Ishigami best girl.
Romance between two tsunderes is the core of the anime. But they are tsunderes after all so there may not be as much romantic progression as some people hoped, but their relationship status is the main gag of the show and conductor for all other jokes. It just can`t progress or the show will end too fast.
[Production & Adaptation] 10/10
The anime was made by A-1 so nothing is interesting in the studio itself. But the staff is skilled as in the first season. I couldn`t find much information because MAL didn`t have staff names for some reason, but I assume that it`s mostly the same people who worked on the 1st season. I know that some main staff positions were working with SHAFT so that explains the style of the adaptation similar to the Monogatari series and the Monogatari reference in episode 4. Monogatari aside, VAs did an outstanding job and are one of the many reasons adaptation is superior. The narrator is setting the vibe of the anime and helps us understand this overly-complex game. All main characters also have great VAs. It makes the show even better, giving characters more emotions in the voice. Add to it over-the-top animation and tone of the show and it works perfectly.
I decided to read s2 manga material and I have to say that it`s one of the very rare occasions when anime is better than the manga. Adaptation did a great job not just by faithfully adapting manga panels but put a lot of effort into making it better. Those SHAFT-stylised animations are just outstanding and they`re making source material even better with a great presentation of Kaguas and Shirogane mental fight.
[Personal enjoyment] 10/10
If you haven`t noticed already, I loved this show and think of it as a masterclass comedy anime. It was fun to watch almost every second of it, and while doing so I just couldn`t take a smile off my face. I laughed a lot and this show made me happy every time some cool animation trick or a reference appeared. Do you know what I love? Slice of life shows, tsunderes, references, and jokes. What show could be better?
[Overall] 10/10
I think this is one of the best shows to come out in recent years. It`s a masterpiece of a series and deserves a 10/10 score from me (or 9.7 to be precise). A great comedy in itself was adapted into one of my favorite anime series of all time and the best anime of 2020 so far. And this sequel even tops the first season, which was already pretty good. I loved this anime, and I hope you did too.
It was Parnick, and thank you for listening.

I finally finished this series and it`s time to review it!
[Art & Animation] 5/10
Art is just standard. nothing exceptional. But it does its job well and looks normal. They could make the show much more atmospheric if they made the art style look darker and gloomier.
The animation is also perfectly normal, there are some fights but they are standard as well. I would prefer more hard art & animation stylization with this show`s tone.
[Sound & Music] 5/10
The soundtrack is easily forgettable but
...
it works great, showing the change of tone in the anime. You can fell shifts from the light-hearted comedy to serious drama, thanks to the soundtrack.
OP has some nice music and after watching this anime I added that song to my playlist. Visuals are unique, but boring nevertheless. Previous episode recap was interesting, though. ED is worse, bost visually, and from the music perspective.
[Story & PLOT] 7/10
At the start, the plot is kinda similar to the Assassination classroom, and even after the 1st ep, they`re going in a similar direction. The ultimate goal in both shows is helping delinquents or "broken" students become better people. But their ways of achieving it are completely different. Assassination classroom focuses on the teacher and this anime focuses only on students fixing their defects. Has a lot of shenanigans happening behind the scene though. They're hard to get because the story is incomplete.
This series has a lot of fanservice, they had a pool/beach moment like 3 times. One of the episodes was just a filler and this is in the plot-heavy show, which has only 12 episodes. The Classroom is also very PLOT-heavy, which seems like too much for this type of show.
[Characters & Ayanokouji] 8/10
This anime has a rather big cast of supporting characters but most of them aren`t that interesting. Every character has a fatal flaw, which is the reason they were put in class D in the first place. Everybody hiding something and you can`t understand their motivation or thought process. The only person you completely understand by the end of the season is Horikita and some minor non-important characters.
Ayanokouji is the best and the most interesting character in the show. He may seem similar to Hachiman at first but they're completely different characters with different life philosophies. Ayanokouji is the reason I decided to watch this show. I saw one of the show`s scenes from the 1st ep and I like the main character so much than decided to watch the show. He`s also the reason I completed it after almost dropping the show at ep 4. More about him in the spoiler-heavy "Ending" section of the review.
[Production & Season 2] 6/10
The adaptation is done by Lerche. Their other works include Assassination classroom, School-live! and Monster Musume. The best in the staff is Kishi Seiji (Director) and Iida Satoki (Sound director). They both worked on the Assassination classroom so they are quite good at their jobs. I`m aware that the anime changed a lot from the source material and many people are upset about it, but I haven`t read the LN so I don`t care. The only interesting VA name is Kitou Akari, who is well known for her role as Nezuko in the Demon Slayer.
About the 2nd season...I think it will never come and the anime is just an advertisement for the Light Novel. Despite big streaming numbers merch and Blu-rays haven`t sold enough to even think about the second season. So if you`re a fan of complete endings and not a fan of reading this anime might be not for you.
[Personal enjoyment] 7/10
I almost dropped it on ep 4 because it was boring, put it on hold, came back after a month, and finished it. But this was also pretty hard and I wanted to drop the show several times while watching the second part. But Ayanokouji held me back from doing that. I can see that many people can enjoy the show but characters act so stupidly sometimes that it becomes unbearable to watch.
[Ending] 10/10
WARNING: HEAVY SPOILERS AHEAD. IF YOU HAVEN`T SEEN THE WHOLE ANIME THEN SKIP TO THE OVERALL PART.
This ending was so hype. It makes you see Ayanokouji from the different sides and completely changes your impression of him and the motivation behind his actions seems completely different. If you rewatch the show after the ending, it changes the whole thing. This plot twist changes not only the future (that will never come in the anime form) but the entire anime. I have never seen a plot twist at the very end that is so impactful to everything that happened in the show before. It`s a complete change of perspective, everything just turms 180. It`s just a master class plot twist. And it`s not annoying that they made it at the end of the show since it has so much impact on previous events.
[Overall & Recomendations] 7/10
This is a standard show in terms of production (art, music, animation) but it has an interesting story and nice characters (and the best Ayanokouji ) which works well together. The story has the best executed and impactful plot twist of all time (from all the anime that I watched). The calculated score of this anime is 6,8 or just 7.
I recommend this show to everybody that liked Assassination Classroom.
It also goes the other way around. I don`t recommend it to anybody who dislikes unfinished stories and abrupt endings.
It was Parnick, and thank you for listening.

[Contains minor spoilers]
Disclaimer: I have read the webtoon to the last chapter, so it will heavily influence my opinion on the show.
So most hyped-up series of spring 2020 anime season finally ended. Was it bad? Was it good? Was it meh? Let`s review.
[Art & Animation] 6/10
Art in the adaptation was pretty similar to the webtoon`s style. Characters are drawn nicely and are pleasant to look at. Backgrounds are drawn way better, though. The animation itself is nothing special, mostly because there aren`t any good fight scenes to show it`s quality.
[Sound & Music] 7/10
Soundtrack composed by Kevin Penkin
...
works well in the show and most tracks can easily exist without it. The main track that plays almost every episode is amazing and fits the theme. I also remembered a nice lo-fi style track in ep 8.
OP and ED have really good music (especially ED), but the visuals are very disappointing. I know what it`s done to avoid spoilers but s1 isn`t good enough to hide everything. Characters are very important and they showed only the gg in the OP and gg number 2 in the ED.
[Story & Worldbuilding] 6/10
Worldbuilding (in my opinion) is the best and the most interesting part of the webtoon. And look at what the adaptation did to it. It`s easier to do in webtoon form, but adaptation cut off too much and ended up damaging the great world of TOG. For example, in ep 2 and ep 5 was cut off the important build-up for the irregulars.
The story mainly relies on plot twists and cliffhangers to keep the viewer interested. Everybody is always scheming, tricking, and planning. It`s not a bad thing, but less impressive without the proper world-building. The best part of this constant scheming process is Khun and his 'All according to keikaku' moments because failed worldbuilding doesn't matter in his situation. I enjoyed the story more because of the webtoon`s context and understanding of what`s going on. Sadly anime-only can`t have the same experience.
[Characters] 9/10
Characters are the second most important thing in the TOG webtoon. Even with limited s1 cast, they transferred to the anime nicely. Backstories were delivered good and showed characters' personalities as was intended. Not only main(Khun, Bamm, Rachel) but also side(Anaak, Endorsi, Shibisu) characters got great development. Adaptation managed to not mess this up and that`s a blessing.
[Production & Adaptation] 3/10
Behind this adaptation is Telecom Animation Film. This studio did nothing worth mentioning, except Lupin III. The only popular main staff name is Kevin Penkin. And the worst member of the staff award officially goes to the director, Sano Takashi who is responsible for the majority on unnecessary and just bad changes in worldbuilding, story and just the show itself. I`m sure it was a team effort, but this man committed a war crime. So, let`s bring here something positive. VAs did a great job, they showing real emotions and their tone is working well in the situation. I want to point out: Ootsuka Houchuu (Headon), Okamoto Nobuhiko (Khun), Hayami Saori (Rachel). These VAs did an amazing job. Round of applause, everybody!
[Personal enjoyment & HYPE] 8/10
I enjoyed this series very much because of how good is the webtoon and broken worldbuilding & grand schemes didn`t matter to me since I already know everything and don`t need proper explanations. Also, HYPE played a big role in my enjoyment. I waited for the new episode every week and after that got an animated blank shadow of the webtoon and I liked it.
HYPE is something that put everyone`s hopes way too high and then met viewers with a wall of disappointment. I could only hope that this adaptation didn`t throw away too many people and will bring some new readers to the TOG fandom.
[Overall & Recomendations] 7/10
Using the power of math I concluded that TOG`s overall score is 6.5. Then a magically added 0.5 and we have a 7/10 score. This is a good anime, bad adaptation, and an experiment. Despite its many drawbacks, the show is a nice thing to watch every week.
Do I recommend the Tower of god anime? If you are strongly anime only, then it worth watching. If you can read then webtoon is very strongly recommended. Don`t try to decide will you read it or not based on the first ep, decide it by reading the first 10-15 chapters, and enjoy the ride.
It was Parnick, and thank you for listening.
