When I first started to watch Lovely Complex, I felt no small amount of trepidation. However, after the first five or so episodes, I found myself pleasantly surprised by just how much charm such a - dare I say - cheesy rom-com had.
The characters two main character, Otani and Risa, are a perfect fit for each other apart from their heights. This leads to some very comedic moments. The story line works so well because both Otani and Risa can be so in tune in one scene and then have a massive fall out the next... and it's believable.
Such a vast contrast in ... emotions that display themselves in each 20 minute(ish) episode never lets the ball drop. There is barely a dull moment in any of the 24 episodes that seem to be "filler space". Every episode can be watched singularly but, as a whole, it reaches a whole new dimension which warms your heart to the characters.
The art style does show a little weakness, at times, when it over exaggerates a certain shot. This, however, is only a matter of opinion that will vary as much as anything else from person to person.
A very strong series that needs to be watched, if only once.

After watching all of the episodes, I can't help but feel that so much more could have been done. 13 episodes was just simply not enough to really do the series justice.
What this anime did do well lay mostly in the characters. It was obvious to me that all of the characters had reasons behind their actions and the personalities of each one felt different and refreshing. The deep, emotional scenes between Sana and Nanaka especially add depth to the anime, as a whole. This was the highlight of the series for me.
Unfortunately, the series did feel hurried in the latter part of the ... anime which, for me, ruined a lot of the tension that had been built up throughout the previous episodes. I also felt that the back story of Sana was not as well laid out as the rest of the characters which made him feel a bit flimsy in comparison with some of the more minor characters.
Still, I did enjoy the anime and have no qualms with adding it to my completed list. For any fan of slice of life who enjoys the tugging of heartstrings, this is not a bad anime to peruse.

This is a simply brilliant slice-of-life anime. I could shower it with superlatives and hyperbolic language until the cows come home but it still would not do it true justice. For me, it is something that I looked forward to watching every day after college and I was never disappointed. 26 episodes and not one of them were anything below excellence.
The characters are wide ranging in personality and none of them feel 'skirted over' in the slightest. Both the opening and the closing themes were really well suited to the anime along with the "in episode" tracks. I found the plot to be enthralling ... and far more varied than the standard, predictable slice-of-ife that are all too common.
Even if I had the vocabulary of a literary genius, I would still be at a loss as to how I could truly give this show the praise it deserves. How much I wish there was another 26 episodes or more!
