First and foremost, to anyone who hasnt seen this series and is reading this review, i say this: Hold On. Dont give up just yet and somehow manage to wade through the confusion of the first few episodes. if you can, the waiting for you at the end of the line is one of Key's best pieces of work ive seen.

the story will seem a little loopy at first and will never quite get back up, but it will do with expected grace what any Key series is supposed to do: leave you sad a shit. im not talking Clannad AS tearful but substantial enough ... to make you overlook the imperfections.

the characters are mostly ignored and left undeveloped. There was so much potential in the character development sector, but the creators just threw that away in order to keep it short and sweet. the series, hence, feels rushed and that, really is a tremendous waste.

but the one character that is developed properly happens to be the main protagonist, and the assisting characters Yurippe, Hinata are not given any space to breathe. that being said, the first few tearful moments of the series comes when Otanashi recalls his memories. And these parts are so well done that you can easily overlook the flaws in the series. Tachibana totally won my heart though.

As expected, the art and music are spot on, and particularly the closing theme to the last episode. The art slacks off in a few places (though you need a keen eye to notice that) and is certainly not expected from the people who are making Charlotte.

But overall, this is a good anime to keep in your heart just a little while.

Shigatsu is one of those anime that are been great and could have been absolutely brilliant but gets held back by minor things that do nothing but kill the mood in the most emotional of scenes. Yes, im talking about he gag humour scenes, which from the beginning of the series sticks out like a sore thumb.

But don't be misguided, Shigatsu is one of the best Slice of Life romance anime i have ever seen. Sure, the story does not go in the obvious direction and delves into a number of side plots which, though necessary for the protagonist's ultimate fate, will leave ... you somewhat disappointed, it is still very refreshing to watch as long as you dont holding your breath.

But even more than the story, what you should watch this anime for is the art. Trust me, it is absolutely mesmerising. Throw in the superb score and brilliant animation, you just might start to forget about the story and start watching for the visuals. Where all three really shine are the piano and violin playing scenes of Kousei and Kaori.

The characters themselves are not that bad, but most of them (including the female lead) are not given much space to develop. I shall say no more on the subject as i might give away spoilers.

But overall, Shigatsu wa Kimi na Uso is an anime you should be ashamed to ignore.
