- Similar protagonists — Gintoki and Vash are both incredibly skilled fighters with infamous reputations who are too kindhearted for their own good; they’re often caught in chaotic and dangerous situations since they just don’t have it in them to abandon people who really need their help - Great balance between dramatic/emotional moments and goofy humor - Similar dynamics between main characters who gradually gain an appreciation for the protagonist’s true nature and contribute to the series’ wonderful humor - Similar art styles (although Trigun is older) - Futuristic/space-centric sci-fi elements

JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken (TV)
add

- These series have some of the most ri-god-damn-diculous scenarios I’ve seen in anime, and they can pull off over the top comedy and reactions in the best way - Both are long series with multiple parts and plenty of action (Gintama is around 370 episodes and Jojo is over 150 and still being adapted to anime at the time I’m writing this) - Both have historical settings with fantasy/sci-fi elements - Gintama is set in an alternate Edo-period Japan that is also inhabited by various alien races, while Jojo is set throughout various time periods starting in Victorian England and has many characters with mystical powers - Gintama has lots of references to Japanese history from the time period it’s set in as well as pop culture and other manga/anime; Jojo is also full of cultural references, ESPECIALLY music

Both are short and bittersweet stories featuring two main characters — one is deceased and unable to move on, while the other tries to help them and regains a sense of purpose in their life through their relationship

Kimetsu no Yaiba

Jujutsu Kaisen
add

- Rather than strictly fantasy violence (hitting people with magic but no one really gets hurt) that some shounen series have, there are actual bloody fights and deaths, which makes the fights feel like they have more weight - Similar supernatural enemies with cursed spirits in Jujutsu Kaisen and demons in Kimetsu no Yaiba/Demon Slayer - Primary antagonists that you love to hate (though Demon Slayer has a lot more compassion towards most other demons) - Well-animated, especially fight scenes - Abilities that feel individualized while maintaining consistency across characters - Strong female characters that get their fair share of the action - Distinct and recognizable character designs, even though most of the characters belong to organizations and wear uniforms/similar outfits

Casshern Sins
add

- Protagonists with mysterious backstories that gradually unravel - Main characters who have reputations for being very powerful/skilled with mixed feelings from the rumored people themselves - Take place in sci-fi worlds that have an empty/lonely feeling to them (Trigun has a futuristic wild west-esque setting while Casshern Sins is outright apocalyptic) - Tense action scenes - Although Vash (and Trigun in general) has a more upbeat and humorous tone, they both have great serious and emotional moments

Devilman: Crybaby
add

- Both series delve deep into the darkness of humanity and morality with resistance from forces of compassion/justice - They both feature quite rampant death, although Devilman: Crybaby is more graphic - Both feature supernatural creatures — demons in Devilman: Crybaby and Shinigami (death gods) in Death Note — that have unique and fittingly disturbing designs - Fascinating character dynamics between main characters - Amazing art styles and soundtracks that fit the mood of the story well

Ase to Sekken
add

- Unorthodox and mature romances that are actually very sweet and wholesome (Ase to Sekken is more NSFW) - Main characters are working adults in the same companies - They start off with different arrangements before becoming romantically involved (Domme/sub and "product inspiration") - Loveable supporting/side characters

If you liked
Mononoke
add
...then you might like
Houseki no Kuni
add

- Unique fantasy worlds (HnK has several humanoid fantasy races while Mononoke is more so based on mythology/folklore) - Beautiful art styles and detailed animation - Mysterious and intriguing stories - The world is more dark and unnerving than you may think at first glance
