It's been a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time since I saw a "Pure comedy" anime/manga like Binbougami Ga! It's not a 4-koma, not a gag-driven anime, it's not a moe-moe driven manga... it's not even some doubtful "lewd jokes" anime... it's just your ol' good plot that will send you laughing to the floor... quite literally.

The story and premises aren't quite original thenselves but the lack of new mangas/anime with this kind of setting on the actual anime and manga escene it's like water on the desert. Ok... there is SOME fan-service but this kind of things are ussual on the bussiness.

Finally, what in this manga really ... excelsis is on the characters: Momiji (the Binbougami) and Sakura (the main character) are both perfect caricatures of what they represent and that, combined with all the twists they show makes this a perfectly light-hearted comedy in which you know what you'll get: lots of laughs without any other thing diluted in.

I'm not gonna dig too much on the future development of the anime (I've read the manga) but there won't be a lot of romance or drama: just humour so don't wait for that.

Just to make a comparison: it remids me Ranma 1/2 in terms of humour.

First of all, English isn't my mother language so forgive if I do some harsh gramatical erros.

Story(?)/argument

Joshiraku is the other manga Kohji Kumeta is writing... Assuming most of you have watched Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, this new manga/anime can be quite a shock on the first episode specially due to how cute everything is and how charming (if not moe) the girls are... but as almost everything Kumeta does, this traits are quite deceptive. If in Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei every chapter had an steady progression towards the punchline or "the joke" at the end of the episode, joshiraku completely lacks this: the humour is quite ... smooth and everything is less progressive and more spread. In the end it does superficially suits that remark at the beginning of the series:

"This anime/manga is full of ordinary dialogue so that viewers/readers can fully enjoy how cute the girls are"

DECEPTION. Just like this statement, almost all the humour and social criticism is hidden and concealed. As everything it's treated in the same way as almost all of those "moe girls start talking" anime (Ex: Lucky Star, K-ON, etc) It's more atractive to the mainstream public than Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. This could be the main reason Kumeta went with this setting: to attract more readers... but don't worry, The core that made Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei such an innusual and genius work it's still there so you won't be dissapointed

Art:

There isn't much to talk about the art of the show: 90% it's on the backstage of a theatre in which the girls work as comedians. Besides, The animators mimic the drawing style of the original manga to the root.

Almost every other thing is irrelevant to the action onscreen. The only thing that can be considered aside are the opening and the ending sequences but I won't review those mainly because I'm not qualified to do it properly.

Let's see.... how can i review this...

first i will have something clear... of you don't like the tipycal way that anime is done then this is not your anime... because the first adjective i will say about this anime is that is "prefabricated"...

the plot is pretty much what you can expect as well as the characters: you can find a lot of then even some rarities like the perv guy or the shotacon... others are the moe girl, the tsundere, the miko style girl, the tiycal hero boy of a romantic comedy, etc...

having said that if you have seen a lot of manga then you ... can imagine the rest of the series by yourself....

Now we must focus in what makes this type of anime interesting and those are 3 things:

Art: the anime has an excellent art though is in moe-lolicon style wich is very "basic" for an anime of this type... wanna found again an art like school rumble? yeah that's difficult... yeah school rumble art wasn't the best but it was original and rare...

Music and sound in general: it doesn't surpass any other comercial romantic comedy anime... sweet but... aren't you tired of the same thing?

Photography: you can have a very good view of the action and the diferent expressions of people make it very interesting...


Well... it's true your gonna have fun and your gonna enjoy it but after seeing it will be like anhy other anime like kannagi, railgun, index etc.... it will go on without glory or misery in your life....
