It is to this day my favorite animated movie ever. For me it has everything that an Action/Adventure movie should have and done to perfection — from its choreography, like the clock tower scene, to the introduction of characters that for me, when I first saw the movie made me fall in love with the franchise.
I first saw this when I was 14, and even 6 years later this movie gets a smile off me. It’s a good introduction to the modern Lupin series (Excluding some more adult versions like “Chikemuri no Ishikawa Goemon”) and I would recommend this one for everybody likes animation/cartoon or
...
would just like to have a good time.
Some bullet points that I'd like to complement my review with:
Story: Fast-paced and easy to follow. There’s not much more else to talk about to be honest. In my opinion it works for the best here, allowing us to know Lupin better and his gimmick of being the greatest thief of all time — even if, at the end he just ends stealing the hearts of those who get to know him. 7/10.
Character: It’s a Lupin movie, where in my opinion he’s at his best — charismatic and funny as always, to the point that I think this is my favorite version of Lupin.
Besides Lupin and Jigen (My king), the highlight of the movie is Clarrise, who works really well with the tone and message of the movie, even protagonizing some action scenes, which makes her my favorite character in this iteration of Lupin III. Green Jacket Lupin/10!
Art: Fucking beautiful, I love the fluidity and how the scenery feels so unreal a majestic.
If I had to pick my favorite scene from this movie, I would say it would be the one at the start of the movie when Lupin thrown all the money with a smile on his face as he escapes in his yellow beetle. What a way to set up the tone for the movie. 10/10!
OST/Sound: don't usually pay too much attention to either sound or OST, but when it comes to the Lupin series, it often features a lot of memorable music, especially when it takes inspiration from jazz or bossa nova (Brazil mentioned). Even if the OST has some jazz influences, it feels tame and unremarkable at times; still, it’s good enough. “Fire Treasure” is the best OST. 7/10.
