This review is about the first and the second season of Asura Cryin. You can read it even if you didn't see the show, there's no massive spoilers.
It was the first show I watch in my life (well, after bleach but I don't put Bleach, One piece and all these shows in the same bag as the little shows, like Asura Cryin).
It's one of my favourite.
I thought it was because it's the first show I watched, so there are kind of magic things, you know, the first time. So I marked it at ten, the first time I saw it. And then I watched
...
other show, all different from others. And I put a lot of ten... And I remember Asura Cryin, and then I said: "Well, no it's not as good as Durarara, Angel Beats, ect..."
So I decided to rewatch it.
I did it. Everything is clear now, I know why I love this show. It deserves a 10.
Let's begin with a quick synopsis, about the two seasons.
We follow the story of Natsume Tomoharu, a young student who has the entire house of his brother for him because his brother moved out for a time. He have a mysterious ghost, which is reality a "spectral projection", who followed him everywhere, it's Misao.
They moved in all the Natsume stuff, because it's the beginning of the scholar year. When they moved, someone get them a suitcase, really heavy.
This suitcase is in reality an altar for what they've called "Asura Machinas". Some people in the school are also "handlers", the persons who have an Asura machina.
On the other side, there are people who have more power than humans, and it's more like supernatural powers, they are called "demons".
Natsume is a nothing more than a human, but he will go through his proper discovers.
We will follow the story of this world, well, I think said universe rather than world is more correct.
I'll not said more things about the story, to not spoil.
Where Asura Cryin did well, it's the plot. To be honest, is one of the plot the most worked that I saw, I think. You can't predict what will happen. And another thing is also good, is that the two seasons are really connected, well the second one is the direct next part of the first.
I'm a bit boring about Mecha anime, maybe because I saw too much show of this category. But Asura Cryin is not a basic mecha anime. Their powers are not overpowered. If they use it to much, there are some repercussions. And that's why it's interesting, and also that's only why the story is pretty interesting and well-constructed.
There're some magic things in this show, like the voice that came out when an Asura Machina is called. It's the voice of the spectral projection first, and it becomes the voice of a machine. It's such a detail, put it put you in the show, and you are really excited to see what will happens.
Let's see part by part.
Story: 10/10
As I said, it's one of my favourite show. The story is well constructed, and there is always some rebounds. They also succeed to make a good happy end, without inconsistencies. And I appreciate that!
Art: 10/10
Asura Cryin was published some years ago. The art is not bad, I like the design of the machinas, the universe and characters are also good. I have nothing to keep out about it.
Sound: 10/10
Well, the two opening and the two endings are... Awesome. It just in total harmony with the show, especially the second opening, which begins a bit slow and become faster.
The ambiance music are also good, but once again, I think I don't really take care about it. My ear didn't bleed at any time in the anime, it's mostly the opposite. Which is a good thing, obviously.
Characters: 10/10
I was a bit in trouble to mark this part. I put 8 first, but maybe it deserves a 10. I don't really like Natsume. He's pretty... Basic. Takatsuki is also banal. That's why I was tented to put 8. But I think Misao, Shuri, and hopefully Saeki (well I maybe forgot some others), got really interesting behaviours. Misao is always hyperactive, she gives a really good rhythm to the anime, Shuri also, and Saeki is pretty interesting, because he give a bit of serious in the anime.
The "bad side" is also well represented; they have good behaviours and ideology, that's why I finally put 10.
Enjoyment: 10/10
Well, I think you understand. I pretty like everything in this anime, except some moment, when it's a bit like "love story time", but it never happens too much, so that's pretty good. Honestly I rewatch the two seasons in maybe 3 days. It's pretty short for me, and I enjoyed it maybe more than the first time I saw it.
One advice: stop thinking and watch it.
But once again. Don’t believe everyone. Make your own opinion.

You can't produce good things of you are not happy in your life. And moreover, you will produce better things if you have a good feeling in what you do.
That's the spirit of the anime. Reality is not quite far from that, of course others things have to be takes in considerations.
Well anyway. I'll write the script, without spoilers (maybe I have to really go deeper in the detail to spoil, thing that I'm not going to do obviously).
Seishu Handa, more known as Sensei in the show, is the principal character. He practices calligraphy, in Tokyo. The story start when he punch the conservator of
...
the museum, which said that his calligraphic is basic, no story in it (and you know, all the things that "specialists" can detect in the art of someone). His father decides to launch him on the Goto isle, to keep out all these things of his mind, and decompress a bit.
On this isle, he will discover all the people who live here. This is a small village, so you know, the difference is pretty hard (at the beginning he can't even understand what people are saying).
He also continues to do calligraphy, and try to take the first place in the expositions.
So, during the show, we see him with all the people in the village, and his progression in his work.
I appreciate this show. Of course it's really more funny than serious, but I think there also is some work by the author on the messages that he wanted to share. And... Well, it's a success. I mean, it's not boring to watch, you laugh a bit, and you take good time.
So, why 7? Because for me 7 isn't a bad mark (1 is a bad mark), and I think there's nothing transcendent in this show, it's not very impressive. You'll not say "WOAAA" when something happen, because... Because you will not be surprised at all maybe.
Let's see a bit in details.
Story: 7/10
It comes from a good idea. And it's a good idea. But the script just takes twenty lines, maybe not more. You'll not be exciting to see what will going on after each episode, like in Steins;Gate for example (of course this is two different category). It's a good story, nothing more, nothing less.
Art: 9/10
Well, I'm forced to say that it's a good point of the show. It's well designed. You'll like to watch it, because it's pretty good.
Sound: 8/10
I really liked the opening! At the moment when I wrote these lines, I have it in my head! It's a good music, and I think it fit well the theme of the show. The ending is also good, but I have no feeling like I have with the opening.
For the rest of the sound, it's good enough.
Characters: 7/10
Most of the characters are adolescents. It's interesting and it gives a funny part to the anime. Sensei has also a good behaviour, a bit classic, but it's not bad.
At least there's nothing really impressive. That's why I put 7.
Enjoyment: 7/10
Well, it was good! It's a bit hilarious; there are some good scenes that I will remember maybe. It makes me thinking a bit. Because I really think that the author wants to give to the spectator some messages, like I said in the beginning. And also that you need one thing in your life to be happy: friends. No importance to who they are, how they are. If you appreciate them and have good times with them, stay with them.
I think this show succeed well to give to the spectator this impression, that's why I liked it.
If you are sceptical, maybe you should not. If you like funny shows, and if you don't have like 3000 show to see, you can go for it. Also if you want to take a break between two serious shows, go for it you won't be disappointed I think.
But trust me about one thing: make up your own opinion by watching this show. Don’t believe everyone.

"It's an intellectual drink for the chosen ones." -Okabe about Dr. Pepper.
Well, where can I begin? Too many things can be said about this anime.
I didn't play at the VN, so there some things that I don't know.
Okay, let's resume the story first. All the review may contain spoiler, especially one part.
Okabe Rintarou, also known as Hououin Kyouma, the auto-proclaimed mad scientist. That's the main character. His laboratory contains three members: him, Daru also known as Super-hacker, and Mayuri (Mayushii). In this laboratory, they developed what they've called "Future Gadget", all a bit strange, with epic names.
At the beginning, they met Makise Kurisu, a
...
young clever scientist.
One of the machine developed by Okabe is the phone microwave [name subject to change]. They do some experimentation on this machine. In fact, they discover something. This machine is a time machine.
Here begin the story, a fight to change the future by altering the past, more or less.
Now I'll explain one or two things that seem to be weird in my mind. This part contain spoilers.
As a lot of anime, Steins;Gate put some rules. And he does it very well. For example, a D-Mail is used to alter the past, and it will have the following effect: changed the actual worldline. Okabe have the reading Steiner, so when we switch between two worldline, he remember all the things about the old worldline.
To cancel the effect of a D-Mail, and so return to the initial worldline, they have to send another D-Mail, to the same person, and tell something opposite at the first D-Mail.
Okay so here's the plot hole. At the episode 22, they have to cancel the last D-Mail, which is in reality the first one: "Makise Kurisu has been stamped". They do that by using the IBN 5100, hacking the CERN, find this message, and... Delete it by pressing enter! Here we are. How the action of deleting the D-Mail in the present can have effect on the past? It can't, if we follow the rules of the anime. I can agree that it change the future, but it means that Makise Kurisu should be dead, and the worldline shouldn't change. The fact that we see the animation that indicates a switch of worldline isn't logic, and it's for me an inconsistence.
All others inconsistencies can be resolved in the way that it's an anime, and there's some things that we just have to admit. For example, I read on the net the following thing: when Okabe send the first D-Mail to Daru, we can’t know if the door of the microwave is open, that is necessary to get the effect of the D-Mail. Honestly… I don’t even care. We don’t see it, so I trust that Daru do some experiences on the microwave, and leave the door open. Who cares?
But this one can't be resolved in an easy way as this. They put rules and not respect it.
Anyway, that's why I put 8 to this anime, because it's the only thing that I was disappointed.
Characters: 10/10
From Okabe to Mr. Braun, all the characters are interesting in my mind. We have a great casting in this anime, a mad scientist, the girl who don't know anything about the science, but just follow Okabe (Mayuri), Daru which is more interested about 2D girls than 3D, Kurisu who is the little highbrow, and all the other are well defined, Suzuha Amane the "Part time Warrior", Moeka, ect...
For example, when Mayuri see Okarin, she always said "tu tuluuu", and I found it so funny!
Art: 10/10
Steins gate was published in 2010, and for this date the graphics are really good. And just the global graphics universe is... Wow I don't know how to said, but it fit really well with the theme of the show: a little bit dark when they are in the lab, even the street where the lab is, it's like the lab is a secret place.
Story: 8/10
Here’s the black point. I think this anime is the anime the most constructed that I see. You can check all the dates when Okabe change worldline, it's coherent. You can't say that the story is bad. You maybe be able to not appreciate it, but don't tell me that it's a bad story.
I don't put 10 because of this inconsistence that I underline higher in this review. And I think Steins Gate excels in the story because it's a really really big anime, with high budget. Every people have high expectations when they start to watch this anime. And there's only one inconsistence, and maybe, I search everywhere an explanation of this inconsistence but I didn't found one, but maybe there is one explanation.
The more you make something with high budget, and well wait by people, the more the public will be exigent. And Steins gate satisfy a lot of people, so they did well I think.
Sound: 10/10
I'm not really an expert about the sound in anime, so I just put 10 because I like the show. But I never heard a bad music when I watch it. The openings and the endings are also very good for me, so I have no reason to critic it.
Enjoyment: 10/10
Even if I found a black point in the story, I really appreciate to watch this anime. It's one of the shows I enjoy the most. Everything is well constructed, and when I start to understand what's going on, you just want to know more things about it. There is a funny part in the anime, which is really really good because it give to the show a bit of humour.
If I have one advice: watch it. You HAVE TO watch it.

BE CAREFULL: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS !!
This anime make me sad, but not only. Actually, I think it's one of the shounen that I prefer. Let's start with the beginning.
In this story we follow Tatsumi, a young man living a bit far from the Capital. He decided, with two friends, to go at the Capital to integrate the Imperial Army. Some events passed, and we just found him alone on the first episode. While he was in the Capital, he notes that the government is really corrupted. Following his story, he met the Night Raid: group of assassin, who want a non-corrupted government.
...
He decided to join them, because he realized the level of corruption in the capital.
At this moment, a lot of characters are introduced. We follow them till the end, and episode by episode, we discover things about all of them. In my mind, that’s a good point: the characters are not some simply people, you know the past of everyone, you know why they want to fight this government.
On the other hand, you have the Jaegers. A group of warriors, with Esdeath on his lead. Every character on this group is interesting, we have some typical anime character (for example Kurome, who just want to kill her sister, Wave who’s a bit naive, Stylish and Seryu, who are… Really crazy), and maybe that’s one of the strength of this anime: there is a lot of diversity. For me, we don’t know enough things about them, but they are introduced with some information.
But I think, Akame Ga Kill is a bit different of other anime, because the “good” is not winning all the time. When you go through the anime, you see some people die, in the Jaegers obviously, but in the Night Raid too. And that’s fun, because you can see the reaction of the others characters about that. And… That’s maybe why you watch this anime. It’s like you want to know who will survive, if your preferred character is not going to die.
The title of the anime borrow the name of Akame. But we start with Tatsumi. And maybe, this choice was good for the title: Akame is the one that has the most kills. She has a painful story, and she have a good temper. I mean, she wants to build a better life by annihilate the actual government, and she’s ready to lost everything if she can change that. She got the real temperament of an assassin.
We met Akame at maybe the 3rd episode. And we follow her till the end, we finish with her. So this title isn’t nothing, it have a real sense.
Story : 8/10 Well done. I appreciate to watch it, and I always wanted to look after. But it’s a bit predictable.
Characters : 8/10 That’s nice ! We know kind of things about everyone; maybe it could be interesting if they go deeper in the description of each.
Sound : 8/10 The opening was sooooo ccccoooolll. They put you in the universe of this anime, especially the second one. And during the anime, the sounds was great, I have to admit: I don’t really pay attention to it.
Design : 8/10 Nothing to say at all, that’s good, not a revolution.
Enjoyment : 9/10 I watched it in few days, and I was exciting to see the next episode every time. That’s why it’s good.
Overall rating: 8/10 Why 8 ? Because it’s a bit simply. Globally, it was great. But I already saw stories like this, it’s not unique.
If you like shonen, don’t hesitate and go ahead : watch it.

12 episodes, 5 years after the first 24. Just waiting the next part now. I love the first season, it's by far my favorite anime.
When I saw the first season(2014) I said "oh well nice, but there's some questions that I can't answer. And how can they do a second season... No no way."
Then I realize I was wrong : a second season was announced since a long time ago.
And I think that's why the first season is one of the best anime I ever saw, because it's a big introduction : you have a good knowledge of the characters, and about the story of
...
the fabulous city : Ikkebukoro.
Anyway. I was pretty... Anxious and reticent about this sequel. I thought they'll just take the same casting and make an other story, not really related with the first one. Of course it can be very good, but "c'est du rechauffer", so that's not very interesting.
I can't realize how wrong I was before seeing Durarara!!x2 Shou.
They just respect at 100%, no, more: 200%, the Durarara world. Even the added characters in this season are actually really in the same way of this world. Just pretty amazing. They keep all the things from the first part. Every thing. And that's why it's interesting. The story continue, and you want to know what's going on in this city. Why Izaya play with humans. Why Mikado create the dollars. You know some part of answer on these questions, but you can't said at 100% why.
Some things become evidence when you see this season. Some others stay in suspend. And till the end, they keep you near the screen, with all your permanent questions.
And at the end... You should say : "Okay, give me the next part, RIGHT NOW"
Should you watch this anime ? No I shouldn't, you HAVE TO watch it. But of course, start from the beginning with the first season.
And I think you pass through one of the best thriller anime if u don't watch it.
Story : 10/10 Never see a better story like this one. There's no way to predict what's going to do in the next 5 episodes. And just when they put you in, you can realize how good realized it was.
Characters : 10/10 We have everything. But in my mind, there are not typical anime characters you see habitually. They all have a hidden part that we know nothing about it.
Art : 9/10 Great, simply. I like, but they are not impressive graphics.
Sound : 9/10 Again, it's not something I never heard in my life, but it makes you in more and more, just that we needed.
Ejoyement : 10/10 I just can see it like 10 times in a row I think, to really understand everything.
Overall rating : 10. Every thing is said. I've never see an anime better than it. I was in since the beginning, and I'm still in.
