This show doesn’t have a review? Well I guess I’ll be the first. First off if your looking for a mermaid themed show this probably isn’t it as the main character doesn’t really spend a lot of time in her mermaid form. The first ep is like the classic “little mermaid” story except instead of becoming a human and going to a fairy tale castle to chase, she becomes a high school student and starts going to high school. There are some good eps here and there but as much as I love 70’s anime, this show hasn’t aged well. If you like older anime ... with that 70s style animation then I guess I would recommend it, but there are better shows that the decade has to offer.

I grew up a huge baseball fan. That’s why it was always hard for me to take sports anime seriously. I never thought anything could compare to the real thing.

Then I watched Cross Game. I realized that sports weren’t just athletes competing in a game. Sports were stories, stories of people and how sports play a defining role in their lives.

The way Cross Game captured the culture of baseball is nothing short of perfect. The way the game is displayed, to the way the main characters and the family of the main characters all live with and around it is shown perfectly.

The way the ... characters grow through out the show, not only as athletes, but as people, is a joy to watch.

The story of Cross Game is a bittersweet one. It’s a story of overcoming, hard work, togetherness and even romance. I recommend this show to anyone with a love for sports, you will not be disappointed.

My all time favorite romance anime.

I didn’t know what to expect when I first started watching this show. It seemed like a slice of life comedy rather than a romance story. But as I kept watching, I realized how true to life this story was.

The character development and relationship development between characters is a slow burn. But if you stick with it, it’s incredibly gratifying. Incrementally the story grows, characters mature, and relationships bloom.

I also want to add that the art and animation get better through out the show, there are some incredibly aesthetic shots in this show that really add to ... the more dramatic moments.

I recommend this to old school anime fans who love slow paced story telling and true to life romance stories.

This review is for all of Gintama.

I went into gintama having never watched it as a kid. So I watched it for the first time as an adult with no sense of nostalgia for it. I also watched it having seen a lot of comedy anime and action anime to compare it too.

So that being said my initial thought to gintama is good, but not great.
I laughed, but I did not laugh consistently. I enjoyed the action arcs, but not all of them. I grew to like the characters more and more and by the last movie I did feel attached to them, ... but I can’t say I really loved them.

Speaking to the comedy in the show, it’s a combination of slapstick, reference jokes and even play on words jokes. I thought the slapstick stuff was the funniest, the reference jokes were fun and I got most of them. But honestly I’m not sure they aged well. And sense I don’t speak Japanese the play on words jokes always flew over my head. Lastly there was a lot of breaking the 4th wall type humor. In fact it felt constant. Personally I found this annoying, but I could see how someone else would enjoy the campy type vibe it brought to the show.

Speaking to the action portions of the show. It was good, but again not great. There are better action anime out there. Even the best action arcs in this show can be topped by other anime, but it certainly wasn’t bad and I enjoyed it most of the time. I especially enjoyed the action sequences in the final movie.

Speaking to the characters of the show. They will grow on you. It took maybe 100 eps before I could say I actually started to like them but once you do feel attached you will only feel more and more attached to them as you keep watching and learning more about there story, especially with the main character Gin.

Overall - 7/10
I’d say gintama is a bit overrated. But its still a show worth watching. It will make you laugh and entertain you if you give it enough time. But if your 100 eps in and you still don’t like it, it’s probably not for you.

Angel Beats, the first anime that made me feel something deeply emotional through its story telling. Angel beats was the 4th anime I had decided to watch. So anime in general was still a new experience to me which is why I still find myself so attached to this series.

Looking at it now though, it’s not perfect. It has a fairly obvious plot hole, it has some tropy eps. But it still has a great emotional story, a bangin soundtrack and one of the better endings I’ve seen to an anime.

I’d recommend this to someone who’s looking for a tear jerker. It might ... not make you cry, but you will at least feel something barring your heart isn’t made of stone.

For me the main character makes this show. She’s not a clueless helpless ditzy dunce. She’s a driven somebody with goals and high expectations for herself. But along the way to those goals she ends up side tracked with different things going on with her friends and romantic interests.

How she handles herself through it all is what makes this show worth watching. I suppose you could call it just typical high school drama bs but the way it was written makes it seem like a notch above the rest of all the other atypical high school anime.

Great show, even better main character.

A round about revenge plot with a side dish of trashing the idol industry. I thought this show was going to be such a waste of time, but I came away liking it. I didn’t think it was amazing, but I was entertained for sure.

The characters are likable, both of the mains have clear goals that they’re trying to reach (that are totally and completely different) and it’s entertaining watching them progress.

The animation is great, just a wonderful color pallet, descent fluidity, the character designs are very fun and all the background art was solid.
The final ep performance was animated beautifully as well.

The ... story is good, it took some turns at the beginning and became something I wasn’t expecting at all but was glad it did. The story is solid and consistent, the writing for all the side character plots was also done really well.

Overall I’d recommend this to most. The hype around it when it was airing was a bit extreme but I do see why a lot of people loved. Just don’t expect a masterpiece.

I was 5 years old when I first saw Pokémon and quickly it became my first obsession. I saw the first couple movies in theaters, I had hundreds of cards, I played all the video games and loved every bit of it. I still remember all the neighborhood kids riding their bikes to my house gathering beside my garage and trading cards.

Eventually though not long after I became a teenager I fell off the Pokémon hype. I was bullied in Jr high for still liking it so I let it go. Years later as an adult I’m suddenly finding myself obsessed with anime/animation. Rediscovering ... Pokémon as an adult was a mixed experience. The nostalgia and familiarity with the series I felt was great. But now I could see the flaws I couldn’t as a kid.

This final group of episodes definitely felt made for original Pokémon fans. The references to the original series, ash traveling with Brock and Misty one last time, it all seemed like fan service for the original crowd and I have to say I really enjoyed it. There were moments were I had goose bumps because suddenly I was a little kid again in the late 90s watching this show with a bowl of cereal.

I understand some people are upset because we didn’t get too see ash’s dad, or ash and misty never became a couple, or their was no final stand off with the team rocket boss Giovanni. I wanted to see those things to but instead I got too see Ash have one last adventure with his original crew and finally return home and that’s enough for me.

Pokémon as an anime series overall is certainly not perfect. But I wouldn’t change the memories I have of it for anything. And these last eps did a great job of recapping and capping off those memories.

Lain. How can I possibly describe this show. Lain is more than a show with a story line and a character arc like most other shows are. Lain is a vibe. It’s an ambient avant-garde experience that takes you in and spits you out feeling like you’ve been asleep your whole life.

Story: 10

The story of lain can be hard to follow but not impossible. There are times in the show where everything has been completely lost and there is no story at all, however this is not the case. If you really try you can interpret everything that happens in this show. That being ... said, people are going to have different interpretations of certain things. But that’s apart of the beauty of this show. You can watch it 5 times and get a different interpretation of the same scene 5 times.

Characters: 10

Lain’s character design is iconic. Super aesthetic and all around pleasing. As a personality or personalities.. she is well written. The writers did a great job making a compelling layered character and I’m sure that you’ll be drawn to her.

Art: 10

The art of lain is one of a kind. The way the shadows are drawn, the way environments seem so empty but also so ominous, it’s all in sync with the vibe that is this show.

Overall: 10

This is worth watching for any anime fan. It’s up for free on YouTube right now. I recommend watching more like an ambient experience the first time, then if you do like it enough the second time through really try to come away with your own interpretation.

This is a must watch for any anime fan. Few anime I have seen have truly moved me and made me reflect on and truly appreciate the craft of story telling. If your not used to watching older shows I implore you to give this one a try. If you are able to make it to the end you’ll be rewarded with having experienced one of the the truly great stories anime has to offer.

What can I say other than it’s amazing. It’s a bit of a slow burn at times but when you make it to the end and you look back ... on everything that happened and how it happened it makes you appreciate even the slowest portions of the show

Oscar steals the show she is the best character in my opinion. Her arc is a joy to watch. As for the other characters they are all solid. Most of them have arcs as well all of them well done and enjoyable.

Art: 10

I love the character designs and the art style. Personally I very much love the way 70s anime looks in general, but I understand someone could look at this and think it just looks old. Even so it looks great compared to many other shows of this time so I have to give it full props.

I fully implore you give this anime a try. It’s worth taking your time with as well, this isn’t a show I recommend binging through, watch a couple eps a night, trust me you want this experience to last as long as possible ;)
