I'm up to date with recent chapters, and I can say that I can't recommend this manga to everyone. It has dark themes like: murder, torture, rape etc. But if you can look past that, and you're looking for something edgy to read in the late night evening. This manga is for you.
Protagonist named Shun Uruma is getting bullied by 5 other kids. Eventually the bullying goes way too far, which causes Shun's parents die in an car accident, where his younger brother survives but is in a vegetable state. Shun wants to take revenge for all the damage the bullies had caused. He gets
...
trained by his grandfather who is a WW2 veteran. After 4 years of training, Shun's quest for revenge has started.
The story is pretty basic. Shun hunts down his bullies and tortures them. It does lead to bullies see it as a challenge and they prepare themselves for it. Where even innocents get caught in the crossfire.
I do like the fact that Shun has to face different consequences on his journey, some of them even are caused by him. But despite everything gets thrown at Shun, he still pushes through. Revenge is the only he knows for real and nothing will stop him from getting it. Despite that, Shun is not edgy himself. He does have moments where he is though. But in reality he's a pretty goofy guy.
I do admit that most of the characters are pretty... Meh? Bullies are just irredeemable psychopaths who do have different personalities, but you just want to see them die. Except for one, Shigoku Kyou. He's the main antagonist of the story and he's truly a menace. He's interesting, and you want to learn more about him. Even when he's absent, he's still a huge figure in the story. No matter how well trained Shun is, Kyou is always few steps ahead. Other side characters are likeable, but they would benefit from more story pages. The recent arc does a fine job with it.
The art is great. That's all I can say. It's well detailed, sharp and you can see that author really likes to draw faces when characters are losing it.
Do I think that this manga is a masterpiece? No. Would I recommend it? Depends. Do I enjoy it? Yes. It's certainly not for everyone. But I'm a sucker for edgy stories and if you're too, you should check it out.
I give it a 8/10.
