"Cute Girls Doing Cute Things- now with Tanks"
Sounds curious? It certainly is.
Hello, this is my first review, please be patient with me.
First off, I am not really a fan of this "cute girls doing cute things"-genre.
I didn't even consider watching it and only did it because I was very bored and a little bit curious.
That said, it shouldn't be very surprising that I didn't enjoy the first few episodes.
At least until I arrived at the first battle. Suddenly things got far more interesting.
But one thing after another. I should start with the Art.
...
Art- 9 points
Much love and detail. That is what you can expect.
The Tanks look realistic, at least in my amateur eyes, and are drawn with great detail.
A special piece of candy is the Background. It creates a lively and much more realistic Atmosphere.
Disappointments are only the Characters. Everyone looks a little too simple drawn, for my taste. I still like the facial expressions, without being overdrawn they deliver the thoughts and reactions pretty well.
I don't really have much to say about the Art, only that it is pretty good all in all.
Sound-9 points
The sounds are one more thing that makes the Anime enjoyable.
Bgms are often made for a specific Nation, after that the schools are made, and it is what breathes life into them.
Tanks sound very nice as well, even if I never heard one in real life.
They sympathise and enhance the Anime greatness.
Story- 3 points
I will try my best not to spoiler here, even though I can't promise anything.
There is not much Story, what is not necessarily bad. Even little Story, well executed, can make a good impression. Sadly it is not the case here.
Because of the easygoing Atmosphere, that is displayed outside the battles, important Story elements go under.
The writers tried to build up the Story and rise questions and suspicions that something is not right. But lack of seriousness covers this and it is hardly visible.
The "cute girls do cute things"-thing backfires here as well. Because of this some elements that would add to the up building of the story, look like they are just a hunch to let the girls do some cute things.
Well that does not count for every scene, but for some.
It is probably the biggest let down for the Anime. A little bit more drama may have done wonders.
Character- 5 points
There is not really something special about the characters. They have a depth as deep as a slice of bread. The Main Character goes a bit deeper, but it's still not enough to catch a fish.
Some girls have their little trials with a little Character development. But it is not much.
Despite that it somehow fits the show, somehow it would steal a lot of the overall Atmosphere.
Still, in comprehension of the story section, it is acceptable and doesn't spoil the fun too much. At least in my option, people that value character development a lot may be disappointed.
Enjoyment- 8 Points
For the most part this will be about the Battles. Surprisingly the Anime shines here the most.
Do I need to be a tank nerd to even understand a word?
A question that may rise up here, for some.
It doesn't hurt to be one, and should make your heart pound. Hopefully.
But even if you are not one, like me, it is still understandable.
Everything is explained and reasonable, even if unique and surprising.
They do not just drive up, in a row and shoot until only one is left standing.
There are tactics and thoughts behind it. Like where to move and how to make an advantage, without needing to read a book about such things (well a little bit of knowledge is necessary, but it is all basics, so you shouldn't worry about it)
Well, if it is this great why only 8 points?
I don't really feel like it deserves a higher Score. I appreciate that they gave a lot of effort to make it amazing as it is. But as I said before, the lack of seriousness and drama is a minus point.
Atmosphere and unique and thought out battles just don't make up for it, to be really epic. It did score poorly on the Story as well, what should be a part of the enjoyment as well.
Overall-7 points
This Anime has two, very different sides. On one Side is the daily life of the girls and on the other are the battles. For all that are into it, both sides are entertaining and probably like it.
For all others some episodes may be a drag where nothing really interesting happens, While you can't wait to see how it continues at other points.
Counting everything together, it still has the potential to be enjoyable.
That is all for my review.
Thank you for your time reading it.
