Cute, wholesome and chill!
Skip to Loafer is a wonderful and fun slice-of-life story with endearing characters and simple enough plot. It's more of a base or starting point for a romantic story rather than a direct to the point romance, which actually makes it better and more realistic in a cute way. The story puts a lot of value on friendship and spending quality time with the people you love, which is actually even more important for younger audiences to see. It's fluffy and funny with actually interesting characters, has a cute art style with wonderful animation and a slow-paced, endearing story.
This is coming from
...
someone who doesn't usually watch high school slice of life stuff, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
Also: I would die for Auntie Nao-chan.

Dungeon Meshi is the most original and refreshing series to come out recently that feels purely determined to just be fun and interesting to watch. It has a passion for the fantasy genre not just on it's packaging but deep in its roots as well, oscillating between both the humorous and bizarre as well the gruesome and unnerving concepts that the setting provides.
The main cast of characters, which seem deceivingly simple at first glance, explore a dungeon world that feels familiar due to the lifted inspiration from DnD and old fantasy video games, but still provides new ideas and interpretations of familiar tropes.
...
The creatures, the recipes and the mysterious nature of the dungeon are reason enough to start watching this series. However Dungeon Meshi is a lot more than just a compilation of gimmicks; it has a pretty fascinating story to tell as well.
There's a mystery to unravel, character to dissect and themes to explore in what is an unexpected story structure. There are tonal shifts that change the trajectory of the story a bit sometimes, but never to the point of no return.
The animation and art direction are also something worth praising; Studio Trigger has poured the hearts and souls into the action sequences. beautiful moments of fluid movement and stunning settings that are overflowing with atmosphere. The animation of many fantastical creatures is jawdroppingly impressive as well; you can tell they've done their research observing real life animals and their behaviours.
Dungeon Meshi is unique, and it doesn't follow expected routes with its pacing or tone. I don't believe it has an identity crisis; it is an exploration anime that covers the many subjects surrounding community, food and ostracisation. My only complaint and reason why I have't rated this a 10/10 is that in the later episodes it starts to rush with the story beats and doesn't let itself linger on what are pretty important moments. Fix that one issue and we might have a new masterpiece. Who knows, perhaps Season 2 will be able to do just that!

A Unique, Engaging, if not a Little Uncanny Adventure
(scroll down for overall recommendation)
I'm a huge fan of fantasy, especially those that go out of their way to try out something new and are unapologetically bizarre. Made in Abyss provides exactly this with it's unique setting and visible passion for world building. I don't think it'd be too out of left field to compare it to the works of Jules Verne: an imaginative adventure into the unknown that will have your mind run wild with possibilities of what might be hiding in this world you've just been introduced to.
The story starts out simple but with plenty
...
of mystery to keep watching; it gets to the point pretty quickly so we start exploring the world beneath as soon as possible (though I'd say the world on the surface is pretty interesting in itself). It's a fantasy survival story really that loves to go into world-building detail on how the characters deal with certain problems and such.
The overall mystery surrounding the world, the rules of the nature and slowly unraveling plot are fascinating and engaging to watch. Though the story doesn't conclude in this first part of the series, it does lead up to a pretty cathartic ending of an arc within the overall story.
The strongest element of Made in Abyss is definitely the art; especially of the setting. Every frame and shot of the fantastical world is a painting worthy of using as a wallpaper. It's absolutely awe-inspiring and pleasing to watch. You just wanna keep going deeper and deeper to see what other cool places there are!
The design of the various creatures, the relics and weapons and such are also really cool. You can definitely tell there was a lot of love and passion for the craft behind them all. However I will say that the style used for people is a little, unfitting? That is mostly my own personal taste though. They look a bit too overly simple and cutesy to completely blend in with the rest of the art and world.
Lot's of lovely soundtrack! The opening intro is easily one of favourite ones, didn't skip it once I think. Just really pleasing to watch and listen to multiple times over. The soundtrack in general is really pretty and accentuates the feeling of wonder and huge size of the world.
The two main protagonist don't hold many surprises, but are generally charming enough to be fun to follow along. It's really the side characters that I found more interesting. One of the side characters that appears later (you'll know who once you meet them) was particularly fascinating and had an amazing backstory/set up. It was their character arc and the execution of that arc that brought me to tears while watching. I'm sure this level of emotional depth, set up and great execution is not absent for the main protagonists, but simply waiting for the right moment.
My biggest and only issue with Made in Abyss, that may not even be a problem for others, is it's fixation on explaining some of the characters body anatomy in uncomfortable detail, plus reoccurring nudity of what is mostly child characters. While it's never really sexual or graphic, it can be a little off-putting. Given the art style of the character designs as well, it is a little uncomfortable to see such baby-looking kids talk about things like genitalia. Then again, it's up to you to decide whether you're going to weirded out by that or not.
Finally, this is less of a criticism and more of a warning; don't let the art style give you the wrong impression. This is NOT a super kid friendly series with the same upbeat tone like it has at the beginning. Without spoiling much, just know there are many really dark moments and concepts, plus pretty graphic violence and injury detail. It's probably an artistic choice to start out all cute and positive, but for the story to get progressively darker as the journey goes on. It's generally really well done, but it could be a little shocking like it was for me.
Recommendation:
If you enjoy fantasy, mystery and seeing something new, I HIGHLY recommend checking out Made in Abyss. As I said, it provides a very unique and interesting world to explore, super engaging mysteries and characters along with stunning visuals and a pretty soundtrack. Just beware of the more uncomfortable and uncanny parts and you'll be set for something really special.

So just finished watching Bungou Stray Dogs today so i thought I'd finally start writing my small reviews.
Overall, I'd say this series was kinda disappointing. Hearing about it from other people made it sound like some underrated gem with great characters and interesting story but, I can't honestly say that it met those expectations. It started off with a really good hook that got me watching but it quickly fell off and I got bored pretty soon. I only continued watching cause I don't like dropping series midway unless I really can't stand it anymore. That is to say that Bungou Stray Dogs isn't really
...
that bad, just painfully average.
Personally I didn't like the pacing of scenes and story progression or a lot of the humour which I don't think I'm the only one to find a bit 'tasteless' at times. Atsushi could have been an interesting character to follow and the series does set up some good concepts to work with, but ultimately it didn't feel like he went very far and I can't say I believe the future seasons will do him any justice. Dazai and some of the villains were only characters I'd say I care about and are the reason why I might continue watching the series later.
Now, there is a small list of things that I did enjoy: one of the main reasons I decided to watch Bungou was because of the art and character designs. All the characters look good and interesting, plenty of good uses of colour and I'll be honest; the fashion was easily my favourite thing in the whole series. The other good thing I took away from the series was the outro song; there was more visual, musical and emotional quality in the last minute of each episode than in the rest of the series. I ended up skipping the intro after hearing it the first 2 times, but I never skipped the outro.
As a final thought; I recommend going into Bungou Stray Dogs with low expectations. It looks better than it actually is. If you're looking for something "okayish" with good visuals and not the worst story, I say go ahead and enjoy.
