Re:Zero's third season delivers another thrilling ride through Subaru’s struggles, filled with intense character moments and gripping twists. The animation remains top-tier, and the cast shines with their emotional performances. However, the season feels like it’s missing the “darkness” that defined some of its most impactful moments in previous arcs. The background environments, from buildings to the overall atmosphere, lack a truly grim and oppressive feel. A more haunting soundtrack and more visceral imagery—perhaps some bloodier, grittier details—could have elevated the tension.

Additionally, while the pacing keeps things exciting, some heavy emotional scenes fly by too quickly, not allowing enough time for their weight to settle. ... Still, despite these flaws, the season is a solid continuation, and fans will find plenty to enjoy in Subaru’s latest struggles.

A Disappointing Dive into Mediocrity

At first glance, this anime presents itself as a lighthearted adventure, but the deeper you go, the more apparent its flaws become. What starts as a seemingly promising fantasy series quickly devolves into a shallow, uninspired mess where nothing feels earned, and every development is predictable.

The protagonist is the biggest issue. He stumbles into magic, and without any effort, he’s suddenly a prodigy. Every spell works perfectly on the first try, every challenge is effortlessly overcome, and every other character exists solely to admire him. There's no struggle, no real stakes, and no depth to his growth—it’s just an endless string ... of successes handed to him on a silver platter.

The supporting cast isn’t much better. Most of them have no real personality beyond blindly adoring the protagonist. Conflicts are resolved too easily, often in the most clichéd ways possible, making it hard to feel any real investment in the story. Even elements like dragons and grand magical battles fail to add excitement because they lack any real weight or impact.

Overall, this anime feels like it was written with the mindset of "magic is cool, strong characters are cool, and dragons are cool," but without any effort to craft a compelling story. It’s a frustrating watch because it had the potential to be something more, but instead, it settles for being an unimaginative power fantasy with no real substance.

This anime starts with a promising premise, but as the episodes progress, it becomes clear that the story lacks meaningful development. The plot remains stagnant, relying heavily on a lighthearted tone without any real stakes. Even in dire situations, the characters seem unaffected, brushing off challenges with a forced sense of optimism.

The art style is serviceable but doesn’t particularly stand out. While it fits the cheerful atmosphere, it doesn’t add much depth to the overall experience. The characters, unfortunately, feel one-dimensional, rarely displaying a balance of strengths and weaknesses. They don’t react to hardships in a believable way, making it difficult to feel invested in ... their journey.

Fans of carefree, slice-of-life narratives may still find enjoyment in its lighthearted approach, but those looking for character growth or narrative tension might find it frustratingly static.

This is not for everyone, this is for those who like the "whatever-monogatari" series style and pace.

Lets begin with how unique it is in some parts and how it feels like it was like an "Evangelion feeling" in others:

Everything here is unique, the characters are unique, the environment is unique for the conversation that is happening, and there is some mix of 3D and 2D that makes some scenes great and some that are "ok", but they are unique most of the times and some of them felt that there was a little "Evangelion feeling" with the music, background and conversation combined.


"Chaos Theory":

Every little piece ... of conversation/interaction had some meaning to the whole plot, even if it was not something important or relevant, it was something that created a connection between the characters, even if did nothing to the plot itself at first, but in the end it, it was relevant when and how they had their interactions, it was what made this piece a "monogatari like experience" and, in the end, it made the biggest impact, everything since the beginning came down like an avalanche.

Music/soundtracks:

I will be short here, the sounds and music are very satisfying, some are funny and they feel like the 80's comedy movies, others are very impactful by applying all types of instruments.


Why would I give 10/10?

Aside from the "whatever-monogatari" series, there is nothing that you can compare, it is unique and it will be hard to be able to watch something like this in the future, gosh... even the series are different from this in some ways, this felt like a complete experience when compared with the series... my only regret is that this movie gave me a complete different point of view regarding the chronology of everything and made me thing that it would be better watching this first... not because of the plot but how you view the main character interaction with others in the future... if you are reading this, if you like to already know the "value" of the main character while watching the series, then watch this first... but if you like to be in the dark about what he can do and who are involved with his "roots" then watch the series in launching order then come watch this movie...

In the end... as someone that like the monogatari style, it was a masterpiece.
